FFO Playing with AI

Welcome to Friday Face OFF (FFO) This is the place where you can show any type of face, in any medium. The face can be human, animal, alien, monster, a face you see in nature, or the face of a flower. If it is a face you can share it.

For me, I was playing with AI. I am fascinated by this small area of what AI can create.
These are hauntingly beautiful.

But after making several sets of faces I noticed that as real as they seem there is a robot look to them. As gorgeous as this girl is. I see an unreal look to her. AI has made her so perfect that even her skin looks synthetic. However, that is AI's job.
So I decided to look for real faces. Of course I am drawn to older faces. The faces that show life. Women tend to tell their stories on their faces. I love that about us humans. All the things these women had to do, go through, fix, endure, hurt, cry, enjoy, laugh, love, fail and succeed at is etched on their incredible faces. Old people in the US are overlooked, passed by, forgotten, and treated poorly in a lot of cases. However, I would love to spend time with these women. The tales they can tell.

I wanted to show this lovely lady. She was on google under ugly women. OMG! Look at her, see the beauty in her face. This photo shows some pain, heartache and sadness. How can anyone call her ugly?!

There are so many amazing faces that we see everyday. Do we actually look at people? Do we see them for being real? Or has social media, cell phones, and yes AI moved us further away from our humanity?
That's it for me before I get on some kind of rampage. LOL

For some reason, the group of AI girls had lips that were out of proportion. But that's just me. AI has a place, but I'm still not convinced it has a place in art. You certainly created a lot of faces for FFO!

I agree, with AI you never know what is real and what´s not and why, oh why is that woman listed under "ugly"???
I think I am old.
My parents were kids in WW II, my Mom had to flee from the Russians (hmmm, sounds kinda familiar right now), my Grandma had to decide, send the older kids onto the Gustloff and wait with the younger ones in the terrible cold or stick together (she luckily decided for the latter).
She sometimes looked like the "ugly" woman, too.
Some bad memories never go away.
My sweet neighbor W... he can tell the most horrible stories from the war, yet... he has overcome the trauma mostly. He´s 84, not that wrinkly yet, but you can read a lot from the lines on his face.
Ugly? Only a dumb person can say so.

Let´s hope our wrinkles show a happy life - with this... a happy Friday to you!

And yes. I do look at people. I am small. Couple of years ago in a grocery an elderly woman asked me to hand her down some water-bottles. I was on my toes! There were tall people around us ;-)
Another time a woman took me for her Granddaughter by accident. She didn´t mind I wasn´t, she talked to me anyways all through check-out :-)
I admired her for her braveness. We can learn a lot from the "older" generation!

Bravo! Beautiful post
I agree with every word.

I completely agree with you. Those old women faces are so full of stories - I would love to sit with them and listen to their stories. To call a face "ugly" is harsh and pretty much shows what seems to be important in our society - superficial stuff. It's really sad. Thank you for showing these beautiful women, Nicole.

a beautiful and heartfelt sharing dear Nichole !

i agree that beauty created by AI can be perfect but lifeless .life has it's own touch of incompleteness which keep things alive always striving for grow and better that makes them most appealing i believe the longing for progress :)
i felt sad that lady was put under tag of ugly i must say the one who did so was unaware of true meaning of beauty sadly .
thank you for making my day! health peace and joy to you my dear friend!

Older faces have much more character than these polished young ones. These days most oldies that I see are smart and look good. Valerie

I find the older faces or any faces with some character and something in the eyes much more interesting. Absolutely agree!! :)

"Has social media, cell phones, and yes AI moved us further away from our humanity?" That is an excellent question. When people spend more time interacting with a device rather than one another, I'd say so. I recently heard AI art described as "soulless." People are really enamored with AI right now, though, so I doubt anyone is thinking about that.

I have an idea for a sci fi story, in which the protagonist interacts with a variety of friends via their computer, but in the end, it turns out that they are the last human on earth and all their friends are actually just AI.

Youthful perfection has always been a human goal. I wonder if anyone has asked AI to create faces of old people. I somehow doubt they'd show as much appeal and personality as the photographs you shared.

Hi Nicole, your older womans are much better then the AI ones.
What I have seen from AI so far I don´t like it. Faces looks like plastic dolls. A human face is not "perfect" And not that shiny. And we have visible emotions. AI don´t! Landscapes also look bad in AI. The images are "dead"!

Everyone seems to love a young pretty face, but those women (not being mean) haven't witnessed as much life as older faces. You are right, age is not a bad thing (except for health but even young people have health issues), and life definitely becomes richer with age. Lovely faces this week Nicole. And you described what it is about the AI faces exactly. Have a great weekend. hugs-Erika

Ugly women? not at all - interesting and telling so many stories. And when I see the actual picture of 77 year old Cher? What does it tell me-nothing..except fear of getting older.
Good post.
All the best

yes... seeking truth as always
faces are interesting when real, capturing their eyes and expressions, AI and "the idea of perfection" isn't interesting, it's deadening

The wrinkly faces do have more character. {although I don't say that to myself when I look in the mirror}

Dear Nicole, you are right, the AI creations are almost too pretty to be true - and they actually ARE not true... The real wrinkled faces definitely have more charisma and a true, personal story. By the way, a few years ago (2015) I had a linkup called "Save the Laugh Line", where, among other things, this real form of beauty was celebrated. Here's the link to all my laugh line posts:
If you allow me, I would link one of the old posts here because it shows many true faces: old and young, human and animal. Here is the link:
All the best and happy weekend

The AI faces would look good in horror movies. I love the old women's faces. They do look like they have stories to tell.

I get what you're saying about AI generated faces - too perfect and almost a little creepy if you ask me. :) I also understand what you mean about faces telling stories.

I hope all is well on your end. We were on vacation, locally, for the past two weeks and am now once again back to my normal routine. That was a much needed break and we had such a good time!

Take care, Nicole!
