PAINT PARTY FRIDAY JAN. 29

Hi Everyone!

I am back from a lupus flare and company. LOL Had a really nice time with my family.
So here it is Paint Party Friday. A big thanks to Eva and Kristen for hosting. Be sure to visit their blog to see all of the artists who join in.  This week I have another abstract sculpture.

Here are a few of the abstract sculpts, they really do hang on the wall.

This is the latest. Kind of looks like an octopus.  Deep texture and rich colors

The next one I am going to make long tentacles.  Hope it works out. LOL

Here is a close up. There are lots of pointy spines all around this piece.
 Hope you enjoyed the art.

LIVING AROUND LUPUS

Hi Everyone!

This has been a whirl wind of the first few weeks of  2016. I had to take some time with a lupus flare that hit me. Then my brother and his wife came for a visit. We had the best time and I hated to see them leave.  For those of you who don't know, having a lupus flare is like an alien silently comes and sucks the life right out of you, and the only thing left behind is pain, confusion, and absolutely no energy. I think that sums it up pretty well. LOL With all of  that "you" still have to carry on as much as you can. Sooooo with that said, I am behind in my Sunday writing on Liqutex mediums, I promise to get the next issue out this Sunday. I am so glad I am not a judge in my NBB contest, that has been taken care of by others. Yayyy! There is still plenty of time to join in, see the details here. The prized are pretty darn nice.  I guess that is it for now. I will be back to blogging more so see ya all later.

This was our sky last evening on the Oregon Coast.

NEW WEBSITE WITH CITYMAX LOVE IT

Hi Everyone!

I want to share with you the amazing experience I have had with getting my new website up and running. First I have had a website since 1995. I taught myself html and took a local class on websites and I was hooked. Over the years I ended up with owning my own web program (Web Studio) In 1999/2000 WS was a very good product. As they updated to what is out now WS5. It went down  hill, as my old website showed.  The kicker was not being able to go mobile with WS5. Or at least not easily. So I made the big change to CityMax as my website host.  I am so glad I did. My Sis, Lori Culligan who has been with CityMax many years helped me understand the nuances of CityMax. It is so easy.  It only took a few days to get it up and running. If you are looking to change your website host, or to make your first website, I highly recommend CityMax.  Ohhh and going mobile was a click of the mouse with CityMax.  Instant download for patterns with your own private download page.  Meaning if you lose the pattern all you need to do is sign in and re download. I love that feature! Come on by and see my new website. Right now any order no matter how big is only $5.00 shipping and handling.

Over the years I have had the delightful pleasure to share  with you Lillian Arena. Please see posts here and here. I was informed today that Lillian fell and broke her hip. The first bone broken in 96 years. She has had surgery and I believe she will be going home. Please send healing energy, light a healing candle, and say a healing prayer
for this wonderful and amazing woman.
Lillian my heart goes to you with healing and love.

Lillian loves dolls and creates them with so much passion.
Here are some of the babies she created.

LIQUITEX MEDIUMS PART 1

Hi Everyone!

I am starting this Sunday with the Liquitex medium section. I am going to take this section a bit slower. I know I have difficulty with what medium goes with what and where.  A short introduction of what I will be covering.

Liquitex offers the broadest possible range of acrylic mediums. The best way to understand mediums the book separates them in to sections.
Prep;  Surface preparations set the foundation for stable and permanent color applications by sealing and adding tooth to almost any painting surface. Liquitex offers five different types of acrylic gessoes to accommodate all types of work.
Pain-t; Within the painting category, there are several different types of products you would use in addition to the color itself. These are Fluid Mediums, Gel Mediums, Additives and Texture Gels. These painting mediums allow an artist to adjust the working and optical properties of the paint film to accomplish an astonishing variety of techniques and applications.
Finish; Varnishes are applied over a completed piece of work to change or unify the surface of sheen and protect the painted surface from the environment and ultraviolet light.
All of Liquitex Mediums are:
  •  Permanent
  • PH neutral when dry
  • Non-yellowing and water resistant when dry
  • Flexible, non-cracking
  • Ideal for improving adhesion
  • Formulated for long term durability
  • Manufactured with the best quality resins available.
  • Developed by specialized chemists, with 50 + years of experience  1 Except Modeling Paste2 and SoulvanD

The Difference Between Additives and Mediums
An Additive is something that changes the chemical of "inner working" of the paint film. Additive should be used sparingly, in  only the amount needed to generate the desired effect. In general Liquitex recommends adding no more than 25% of any additive to your acrylic paint.
A medium changes the working properties of the paint, and it includes a resin binder for additional stability. Because mediums maintain or enhance the stability of the paint film, they can be used in any amount you desire.
Essential information about using acrylic mediums
For best results, always test before using. Mix Liquitex Mediums into acrylic color to add flexibility, adhesion, and long term stability. Liquitex mediums extend the volume, while most also increase the transparency of the acrylic color. A thin film of (1/16")  of Liquitex medium may take between 1/2 hour to 24 hours to initially dry, while thicker film (1/4") may take up to 5 days. It always depends on the relative humidity. The use o Palette Wetting Spray or an air mister and humidifier will slow the drying time of all Liquitex mediums. Avoid any oily, oil painted, greasy or waxy surfaces. To improve adhesion when painting on any hard or slick surface such as glass, metal, enamel or hardboard. Sand surfaces prior to applying any medium. Vigorous brushwork over textured areas may cause bubble to for within the paint film. Do not over work during application. If mediums are brushed heavily during drying, it may cause clouding. Once the film is clouded and dry, it can not be clarified or removed, If an area is missed, allow the surface to dry and then cover with another coat of medium.

That is what I have for now. Next week I will go over Preparation and the 5 different types of Gesso
