Lupus Awarness Month

 Hi Everyone!

Happy May Day.

May is Lupus awareness month. As most of you know I was diagnosed with Lupus 30 years ago, and Sjogrens 6 years ago. Autoimmune begets autoimmune. Once your body turns on you it leaves it open for other diseases to join in. Both of these diseases cause multiple problems in my body. Anemia and other blood disorders. Constant stomach pain. Body aches that just won't leave me alone. Right now, due to the Sjogren's I'm having real trouble with my eye sight. The symptoms never end, they come without warning, they multiply and hit you like a mac truck. But everyday I have to carry on.

The challenges I face everyday with lupus are sometimes overwhelming to the point that I want to cry.  I just can't do that though and have to take a deep breath and go on.

I have actually had people say to me, you don't look sick. Or, why do you walk with a cane today, you weren't last week. Or, why is your face so red? I may not look sick on the outside but I am screaming on the inside. Sometimes my balance is off and I need a cane to help me along. My face is red because I'm flaring.

It's Lupus awareness month.

I have known a couple of people with Lupus and I don’t think that non-sufferers can ever really grasp the severity of this dreaded illness.

This is really informative, Nicole. I think about what you are experiencing and know it is very challenging. (And don't you hate it when people say "You look great, you don't look sick." Well, it's great that we don't but it doesn't mean that things are falling apart inside and we're sticking them together with all the duct tape we can! We never know what others experience unless they explain, so thanks for a wonderful explanation.)

Autoimmune disorders are far more common than most people realize. Lupus is a particularly difficult one.

Dear Nicole. Thank you for the education on lupus and what you deal with daily, quietly, like a grown up. I hope today's a good day.

There are so many chronic diseases with the immune system and without, but lupus is one of the worse ones, for sure. Having one of them where you don't look sick is particularly frustrating dealing with people who don't understand or have a clue. * gentle hugs*

I’m so sorry to hear about your multiple diagnoses! Fibromyalgia is my super power – but Lupus? Such a heavy load to live with. I can relate to the Lupus is a thief and Lupus Warning poster as well as your comments. In fact, I can relate to your entire post! You wrote so eloquently and accurately wrote my truth. I was near tears as I read your pain and frustration. Hugging you, sending you compassion, empathy and hopes for good days.
