Birthday

 Hi Everyone!

Today is my birthday. Yikes!!! 73. Nothing special went on. A ride on my broom. I wish. ha ha ha. Spoke to my family. Mr. M. baked a cake for us. We are working to purge things.... again. As soon as the weather breaks we will have a yard sale. In the mean time I promised to show you how I am growing carrots this year. It's new to me, but I think it's been around awhile. Ohhh for some reason my photos are gone so these some of these are taken from google.

First soak the carrot seeds for at least an hour. Then take a flat container and place wet paper towels in it. The sprinkle the carrot seeds. Keep them from touching each other as much as you can. Cover with another wet paper towel and then with plastic wrap and place in a dark, warm place. You end up with this.

It takes up to 5 days for the germination. While that is happening take a cardboard egg carton and run scissors through the cup part.

Once this is done fill with growing soil.
With you finger or the end of a pencil make a 1/4" hole in all the cups. Then, gently take one germinated carrot and place in the hole. Cover with the soil.  Take the cartons out to your garden and then gently water the trays.
This eliminates any thinning during the growing period. Here is one of my carrot trays.
I'm happy with this method of growing.
Are you growing carrots this year?
See ya next time.
Nicole

Happy birthday! Enjoy your day. Around here carrots don't do well. You tend to get big shoulder's which dwindle to tiny ends. Even local growers don't do them though they grow a lot of other vegetables. Good luck with yours.

Happy birthday, Nicole! I just turned 74 end of March so we are close in age. Time has flown by really quickly, I think. I hope you did something special. :)

Happy birthday Nicole. I hope 73 is a fantastic year for you. And I like that carrot growing method. Mine are coming up-I just planted them in a big garden bag, but I will have to do some thinning. Thanks for sharing. hugs-Erika

Happy, happy belated Birthday - to a great new year - and to carrots, I sadly have but a small balcony and (pic to come) as you know strawberries, plus plan on wildflowers for bees.

Happy birthday! It sounds like a cozy day with family and cake, along with productive purging for your yard sale, and your carrot-growing method sounds intriguing — I can’t wait to see how they turn out!

Firstly, Happy Birthday! Welcome to those big girl numbers. :)

Secondly, that's a great way to start seeds. I always hate thinning so this seems like an excellent option.

Happy birthday. Enjoy it to the fullest. May your broomstick fly well! We have been doing a little purging, half-heartedly and inefficiently. After all, who wants to part with the treasures of a lifetime?

Happiest of belated birthdays, Nicole! Carrot cake sounds great and so does your method of planting them. Rick used to just put them in the ground but this gives them a head start.

Happy birthday Nicole!
Health, happiness and luck.
I wish you the best!
I find the way carrots are grown very interesting. It is best to have your own carrots! As well as your own potatoes!! Because it is essential that they are yours and that they do not have pesticides!
