Friday Face OFF 5\5\23

 Welcome To Friday Face OFF!

I have to say that this week has simply run away with my time. I'm going to tell you what has been happening
as briefly as I can.
In Feb. I had an MRI that showed a lesion on my thyroid. After months of trying to find a doctor and then sending a (not so nice) email to my PC. I finally got an ultrasound on my thyroid. It showed that both lobes are completely full of lesions. However, the phucking radiologist wrote a report that doesn't allow for a biopsy. Even though there are several lesions over 1cm in size. This is the norm for biopsy. I spent 2 days calling every endocrinologist from Coos Bay to Salem and either there are no doctors or I am not in their network or I don't meet criteria. WTF? Not to mention that both my dad and my sister had thyroid cancer.
Finally my PC (btw is a NP, and is NOT under a doctors a supervision .)  set me up for a CT scan with contrast but the imaging dept. didn't like the way she wrote the order and so I have not had the CT scan. I may have to go to the state of WA. to get a doctor. I have no voice, I have a goiter in my neck, it feels like I'm being chocked and there is pain in my neck and throat and lupus is taking full advantage of this.
So, I said all of that to say I have no new faces finished for you this week.
I did start these. One head that is about 6 inches and a Styrofoam skull that I cut the bottom jaw off. They are covered in grit because I don't have any cement. LOL
I will sand them down and go from there.

I hope to have these finished by next FFO.
In the mean time here are a few oldies.

Oh Nicole I pray you can get tests done early and get treatment. Good work on the faces.

Nicole, that sounds scary and unfair. Both my parents died of cancer. I still can´t believe money is invested in finding new planets to live on instead of fighting this devil.
I can´t even wish you well, lust LUCK, and that I do! Fingers and toes are crossed you find help soon and that all turns out well!
Great faces again. That last really came out as grumpy as I feel about our health systems!
I hope you can "enjoy" the weekend and a good doctor turns up.

It is so hard to fight for care when you feel like crap. But keep fighting!! You deserve to be heard!! *love and hugs*

This must be a terrifying experience for you. I hope you find the endocrinologist or endocrine surgeon for these. In my understanding of thyroid nodule investigation, three tests are standard: ultrasound, thyroid nuclear scan and full thyroid function test (TSH T4 T3 serum Calcitonin and Calcium and thyroid autoantibody)

I am sure you NP could order these tests above. At least these tests could tell if these nodules are "hot" or "cold". Hot nodules are less likely cancerous. If your goitre is compressing on your trachea that you cannot speak or swallow, this is considered as an emergency scenario.

The health care system seems to be an obstacle course in your area. I hope that your situation improves and I wish you all the best in this difficult time.

...it's sad to hear of your medical challenges. The medical system here is top notch, I never want to move. Take care and I hope that things work out for you.

Am I the only person who doesn't know what a PC or an NP is? I sometimes think we only speak in acronyms these days!

Your medical situation sucks! With a family history of thyroid cancer, it would seem a biopsy would be automatic.

OMG Nicole ... that is an awful story and scary. I think our medical system is completely broken and what is happening to you sounds like old world Sh..!
I think you are getting close to the time to sue somebody big time. I hope you have a good lawyer you can call on. And after all of that, you still have something to share with us ... rough or not, they are cool. And your drawings are always superb ... I don't know how you manage to capture the expressions on their faces. I posted another museum face for you. I took those pictures several years back and didn't take a picture of who or what they were or where they came from. I am going back there this summer with my Granddaughter so I will try to get more details on them as well as some new pictures. Hang tough, my friend and don't give up ... you deserve better.

Your medical situation sounds like too many disasters. It's sad there are so many issues. You would think they'd want to get you in and cared for. I'm sending you good "ju-ju" across the country with hopes something good will happen. And even though you have nothing new, it's still great to see your art.I hope you can have a nice weekend without too many frustrations. hugs-Erika

Wow, what an outrageous ordeal "the system" is putting you through with your thyroid! I hope you're able to get the medical attention you need soon!

what a nightmare for you. I'm so sorry you're going through this. We feel under siege here too, you're not alone in this struggle, but I sure hope you find answers. When my neck is out I choke too, and it's much smaller than your issue but still bad so I can imagine how this is to deal with... Love, LeeAnna

Nicole,

WOW, sorry on the medical issues going on with you! It's just crazy the way doctors are but even crazier the way insurance works. I hope you can get this all resolved and out of the way pronto so you can enjoy your summer. Your sketches are great and no doubt depict the way you're feeling - MAD with everything going on, right? Take care and be well, dear friend. You're in my thoughts and prayers. XO

That sounds terrible, both heartbreaking and frustrating. I don't understand the healthcare system. It's obvious that something is wrong, they can see it, you have the family history, and they still focus on the administrative details. I hope, with all my heart, that you find a way through all the stupidity and lack of compassion. I've been there, and I know just how immune system issues go insane when something else is going on. I hate that you are uncomfortable and in pain. Sending you gentle hugs.

Oh, Nicole! I am so sorry to hear this! You must be in so much discomfort, and likely scared considering what happened with your parents. Feeling like you're being choked must be awful. Kudos to you for even starting new heads! The oldies portraits you shared have so much expression. I'd love to know what they are thinking. Please take good care of yourself. I will keep you in my prayers! Hugs to you!

I had intended to get here sooner to let you know I would not be visiting this week. I didn't post anything for TWO days, and I post every day as a rule. I am just tired, unmotivated and unwilling to put in the time. I feel for you. I have NO idea what a PC is, but I guess it is some type of doctor. I hope IF you have to go to WA for treatment and care, they treat you better than your own state does. Please keep us updated, dear friend.

I realize that access to health care is a mess, but I'm still shocked you're having such trouble getting what seems to me a simple test (the biopsy) done. I hope you get it straightened out soon.

Omg this sounds like a horrific ordeal for you, especially with your family history. I really hope something can get sorted and soon for you to have your scan (((((hugs)))))
