T Stands for Wind and Mustard.

Hi Everyone!

I have mentioned before how windy it is here on the Oregon cost. Well, last night the wind gods were angry. Part of the results is one of my  10 foot Sunflower plants is bent over. The one next to it is about to fall over too. The twine I had holding it up broke. So one of my jobs today is to help stand this plant up.

The other day I mentioned that I am making my own mustard. Well I did.

Try to get all the shafts out of the seeds.

I didn't have enough seeds so I added some yellow seeds I had for canning and some dry powder mustard.

Add equal parts Apple Cider Vinegar and water.

Cover and let set for 3 days. The seeds will puff up and even start to ferment. The smell is, whew pungent.

I had to open a window and turn on a fan.

 Rinse off the seeds.

Place in a blender with a bit of the liquid. I used a Tablespoon at a time.

I did have to transfer the mixture to a smaller blender.

And then to a mortar and pestle.

I finally got the consistency I wanted. The flavor is amazing, fresh and very delicious.

After something like mustard we need something sweet. I had 2 bananas that were getting over ripe so Mr. M. got a streusel banana bread.

This AM I treated myself to a cup of coffee.

I hope all of you have a wonderful day. Be sure to stop by Elizabeth's to see what the rest of the T-Gang is up to.

I'm trying to get my leaning towers of sunflower plants to lean on some shepherd crooks, but the wind and rain do interfere with that plan. I rarely use mustard; this process is fascinating! The banana bread looks delicious. Happy T Tuesday!

Making your own mustard seems amazing. You didn't show what food you used it on. A hot dog? A French-type steak (which they always eat with mustard)?

Looks like you will be able to save the sunflowers. They are lovely. I was really enthralled reading about how you made mustard. You put a lot of time and effort into it. I bet it tastes SO much better than anything sold in the stores. I can only imagine how pungent the scent was when it was fermenting. Of course, I like the looks of Mr. M's banana bread looks wonderful, too. Yum indeed. And I was surprised you were drinking coffee. Good for you.

Thanks for sharing your process of making mustard, the banana bread, and your coffee with us for T this Tuesday, dear Nicole.

How beautiful are those sunflowers Nicole. I hope they are not broken by the wind.
Happy T-day! Thank you very much for the mustard recipe, I had never thought about making mustard, but I still cheer up and follow your recipe with every detail.
I wish you a very nice Wednesday, stay safe, and big hugss

Glad your flowers didn't get totally destroyed!

Love the mustard adventure, but the banana streusel steals the show! Wish I had some warm with butter right now.

Very cool post and happy T-day!

Sad about the sunflowers, hope they make it.

Your sunflowers are impressive. I'm sure they will survive with a bit of tying up. This autumn sunflower seeds?
Very interesting to see how you make mustard. My hubby loves mustard and i can't stand the stuff...
I also make banana bread when our bananas are over-ripe. I often add walnuts and sometimes spices.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca

Your sunflowers still look pretty. I enjoyed watching you make mustard though I'm a lazy cook. I bet it tastes really delicious. And I wouldn't mind a slab or two of the banana bread. Happy T Day

Boa tarde Nicole. Aqui no Rio de Janeiro está muito quente e tempo que não temos chuva ou vento. Espero que seu jardim se recupere e parabéns pela receita.

First, we live in Kansas and it is really windy here most of the time, too. And our state flower in the sunflower. Sorry, the wind got it. I would love to visit the Oregon coast. Secondly, I am so impressed you made your own mustard. We are lovers of mustard, especially spiced mustard, and have a difficult time finding what we like in the stores, not Dejon. Have a great rest of the week, since t day is over... Hugs!

We had quite a bit of wind (thanks to Hurricane Henri) in New York City, too. I grow my sunflowers in pots, so I took the overprotective way out and brought them inside. Most of my neighbor's sunflowers lost their heads.

Your mustard looks so pretty. Love the process. Also, I am now craving banana bread and coffee (at 9mp!).

The mustard looks good, although I'm not a fan. I think I would enjoy your banana bread though Nicole.
Happy new week.
