Hi Everyone!
I am writing this on Monday because I am going to the Butterfly Pavilion tomorrow. I can hardly wait.
Today I W-A-Y over did it. In the morning I worked in the garden including washing and sterilizing containers for next year. Shoveled soil into winter storage containers and raked the yard. All back breaking chores. Now for some reason I had that pure energy that comes right from the brain. I went upstairs to the "storage" room and revamped that. Something I was looking for was my T-pot and cups.
In the early 1990's I was the featured bead artist for 3 years at the Chenney Cowles Museum in Spokane, Wa. Later it was bought by the Smithsonian and is now called The MAC. Anyway a Japanese college student purchased many pieces of my art. After she returned to Japan she wrote to me and sent photos of my Native art arranged in her traditional Japanese home. It still makes me happy to think of that. Several years later she returned to the US and we met up for a wonderful visit. We exchanged gifts, a Japanese tradition, and her gift to me was this T- Pot set.
Tradition says the man's cup is bigger than the women's. The rabbit is a symbol of cleverness and self-devotion.

And the heron is a sign of
purity, the Shirasagi-no Mai or the White Heron dance was performed to
drive out plague and bring in purity. In Japanese culture, this bird represents noble and graceful appearance. Sometimes, these birds are considered to be a symbol of divinity as well

Here is what I wake up to every morning now.
|
The sun finally comes out and I get to make Blueberry Jelly
|
and brown sugar sweet pickles
|
On the same day I made fresh out of the garden yellow squash for part of our dinner. Ohh so good.

The tea set gift your received is gorgeous. It looks fantastic on your shelf, and I am sure you think of this woman every time you look at it. It is a great story. Have fun tomorrow at the Butterfly Pavilion. I hope you share some photos with us. Have a wonderful T day Nicole. Hugs-Erika
Lovely tea set, your food looks good.
Your tea set is really beautiful!. I love the Japanese sense of style as expressed in their ceramics.
best… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
The Japanese tea set is lovely. I especially like the rabbit cups. That's interesting about the men's cup being larger than the female's cup.
...I've canned dill pickles and peach jam. And I like to fry up som yellow squash too.
What?! Aw, well, men... I take a sip and Ingo has finished his already, same with food. I think some men just inhale what´s in front of them, LOL! A bigger cup!
Wow, you sure can be proud of your art and how wonderful to meet again!
A lot of yum you have and yes, mask and distance! Happy T-Day, too :-)
You have been working very hard in your garden and home! Love the Japanese tea pot and cups. Have a great day, Valerie

YOU have been busy. Wow. I feel like taking the day off and organizing something - really! Super cool story behind your tea set. How lovely to connect with someone who enjoyed your creations like that and how cool to be featured in a museum. Impressive! Your food posts all look and sound wonderful. Delightful post, Nicole. Can't wait to see the butterfly pictures! Happy T-day!!!
Lovely memories! We had similar gift exchanges here when we hosted a gathering of Chinese visitors. I don’t recall anything being grander or larger because it was a man’s, however. Lovely gifts!
Loving your tea set, the heron and bunnies look amazing and I love their symbolism too 😀. Your canning looks fabulous, glad the sun eventually comes out to say hello. Enjoy the butterfly pavillion! Happy T Day wishes! Hugs Jo x
Oh you had a busy day. I like the Japanese tea set. Lovely!
Have a nice day!
So many wonderful things from your garden. The pickles look delicious.
Your tea set is lovely and I enjoyed reading about the set. I would love to see a picture of your beading that was sold to this individual in Japan.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Interesting symbolism on the tea set- and a lovely gift. Wonder how long it'll take me to get such a surge of energy as you did recently:):) Wonderful looking garden foods. Enjoy your butterfly pavilion visit, and happy T day!
I am in LOVE with these cups and the teapot, Nicole. How sweet to meet your customer again, this time as a friend. They are beautiful and a great addition to T this Tuesday, too. I bought some yellow squash and need to find some good recipes for them. Thanks for the nudge!
What a lovely tea set! I see photos of the skies and stories about the fires still burning :( Entire towns gone :(
That squash looks delicious, and I have some in my fridge. Guess what's for supper! :) Happy T Tuesday
The Japanese tea set looks wonderful. Now take it easy, you are making me feel guilty.
What a lovely gift! I didn't know about the difference in the cup sizes--lol!
Foods look great--smoky sky, not so much. Take care. (I wear my mask.)
The tea set is so beautiful. You've been busy in your garden and your kitchen must smell amazing with your cooking. Happy T Day

I did enjoy your post. Lovely story and tea pot and cups. I didn't know about the symbolic significance of the heron in Chinese culture. Thanks for sharing. Happy T Day.
Your teapot and cups are exquisite. I love the Japanese sense of beauty and style. I learnt quite a bit of Japanese ways during the time when we had Japanese students staying with us several summers. (And I learnt origami).
Your story is so interesting. Are you still in contact with her?
Your pickles and yellow squash look delicious. Jelly, is that what we call jam? Yumm!
Happy belated T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Lovely cups! 🤍🖤
And the squash... Yum! 😛
I love the cups with the rabbits on them! I have a Japanese set that you have just reminded me about, I must look for it. Love all your preserves also, they look delicious Happy T Day Elle xx
