T Stands for T-pot

 Hi Everyone!

I am writing this on Monday because I am going to the Butterfly Pavilion tomorrow. I can hardly wait.
Today I W-A-Y over did it. In the morning I worked in the garden including washing and sterilizing containers for next year. Shoveled soil into winter storage containers and raked the yard. All back breaking chores. Now for some reason I had that pure energy that comes right from the brain. I went upstairs to the "storage" room and revamped that. Something I was looking for was my T-pot and cups.
In the early 1990's I was the featured bead artist for 3 years at the Chenney Cowles Museum in Spokane, Wa. Later it was bought by the Smithsonian and is now called The MAC. Anyway a Japanese college student purchased many pieces of my art. After she returned to Japan she wrote to me and sent photos of my Native art arranged in her traditional Japanese home. It still makes me  happy to think of that. Several years later she returned to the US and we met up for a wonderful visit. We exchanged gifts, a Japanese tradition, and her gift to me was this T- Pot set.

Tradition says the man's cup is bigger than the women's. The rabbit is a symbol of cleverness and self-devotion.

And the heron is a sign of purity, the Shirasagi-no Mai or the White Heron dance was performed to drive out plague and bring in purity.  In Japanese culture, this bird represents noble and graceful appearance. Sometimes, these birds are considered to be a symbol of divinity as well

Here is what I wake up to every morning now.

The sun finally comes out and I get to make Blueberry Jelly

 and brown sugar sweet pickles

On the same day I made fresh out of the garden yellow squash for part of our dinner. Ohh so good.

I hope you enjoyed my post and if you did I invite you to click on the link to see what the rest of the T-gang is doing over at Elizabeth's T stands for Tuesday.

The Japanese tea set is lovely. I especially like the rabbit cups. That's interesting about the men's cup being larger than the female's cup.

What?! Aw, well, men... I take a sip and Ingo has finished his already, same with food. I think some men just inhale what´s in front of them, LOL! A bigger cup!
Wow, you sure can be proud of your art and how wonderful to meet again!
A lot of yum you have and yes, mask and distance! Happy T-Day, too :-)

Lovely memories! We had similar gift exchanges here when we hosted a gathering of Chinese visitors. I don’t recall anything being grander or larger because it was a man’s, however. Lovely gifts!

I am in LOVE with these cups and the teapot, Nicole. How sweet to meet your customer again, this time as a friend. They are beautiful and a great addition to T this Tuesday, too. I bought some yellow squash and need to find some good recipes for them. Thanks for the nudge!

Your teapot and cups are exquisite. I love the Japanese sense of beauty and style. I learnt quite a bit of Japanese ways during the time when we had Japanese students staying with us several summers. (And I learnt origami).
Your story is so interesting. Are you still in contact with her?
Your pickles and yellow squash look delicious. Jelly, is that what we call jam? Yumm!
Happy belated T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
