Greetings!
It's party time with Eva and Kristen over at Paint Party Friday. I missed last week due to taking some time off to rest my low back. It is much better and I am now waiting for a referral to Mr. M's doctor to get an injection.
Oh what fun, (NOT)
Today it's storming and so I made it an art day.
This is 20x16" gallery canvas painted with acrylics.
Step one.
Paint anything in black and white. This is my niche.
Painting in black and white is what I love.
So here is the Black and white.
Allow to dry thoroughly.
Step two.
I make my own liquid flow mix but you can use what ever you like. I mix a 60% Slow drying jell to 40% Flow Improver and then add some air brush flow aid. Just enough to make the mix easy to brush on the the canvas. You can use any kind of flow aid medium.
Make sure the mix covers the entire painting in a thin coat, making sure that there are no streaks. You want just enough to cover. If you think there is too much take a paper towel to wipe the canvas.
Then using any colors you like, place a small amount of paint onto your brush and paint back and forth across the canvas. The color will blend and flow into the black and white.
I really love this effect. I started with Dioxazine Purple, Quinacridone Carmine, it's a red, Indian Yellow, Chromium Green light, Burnt Umber and then some Sepia. I don't know if you can see the beautiful browns in the rocks, but they turned out pretty good. Anyway to my eye.
This is a fun way to add color to any painting I hope you try it out.
Be sure to stop by PPF to see what all the other artist have created.

It is a beautiful painting Nicole!
...I hope that your back is on the mend.
Beautiful painting, happy PPF, Valerie
This came out beautiful! Good luck with your back!
Wow, a beautiful result! Injections can work wonders and they are easy to tolerate. You will do well!
I really LOVED watching how the painting progressed to its beautiful conclusion. It is gorgeous. I hope your back is better with each new day.
The b&w version is givin' me mysterious and even kinda creepy vibes...
Love that! 🖤🤍 Still, I do love me some colorful kinda vibes, too! 🧡💚🧡💚
I do hope your back is better soon! That's an interesting technique. Great outcome!
Nicole ~ both are awesome ~ very creative ~ lots of healing energy hugs to you ~ Xo

I thought your black and white painting was beautiful. Then I read on and saw what you did with colors. Amazing! Fascinating to read what you do and use to get these colors.
Have a lovely weekend,
Keep smiling,
Lisca
What a marvelous black and white painting! Congratulations!
I hope you will feel better soon, Nicole!
Beautiful art and thanks for the process note. Happy you dropped by my blog today.
Much❤love
Feel better soon! I hope they really have remedies. Backs are complicated.

i love both the black and white and the colored canvas equally Nicole. I'm guessing you are thinning your acrylic paints this way(?). I do have some High Flow paints and also have tried Slow dry and Matte medium to thin and slow paint drying time. I think they are Golden brand. Have a great weekend and happy PPF!
I never thought of painting black and white first and then glazing with color. That turned out really nice! :)
I've not tried this technique, very interesting, may try it out one day.
I do hope your back improves soon ...
Take Care.
I enjoyed seeing both of these paintings.
All the best Jan
Lovely painting, great technique. hope your back improves.
that looks great 😀 the black and white under painting really help the colours to pop[
Sorry about your back, great job on your landscapes. Happy PPF
Coffee is on and take care
The picture is beautiful whether b / w or color and the technology is great how you do it, thanks for the info.
Get well soon for your back!
I wish you a happy weekend, Elke
Get well soon Nicole. Have a great weekend
what a great idea for a painting. Both versions are beautiful. A good thing with taking photos is you keep the basic steps. I am not good enough on painting so I doubt I would do well trying it. But I bookmarked your post!
Nicole,
I would love to paint for real. I'm too scared to try. I did buy some black sketch paper and white charcoal to try. I love Rain's black and white facials, so I may try doing the same. I also got some chalk to use on the black sketch paper. It'll be interesting to see how this new medium works for me.
This is so cool Nicole! Thanks for explaining! Love the painting! Big Hugs!
I like both of these. B&W has always kind of veil of mystery, colored are more 'open' to look at...
Have a good week!
