Greetings!
Today I'm showing part 2 of how my gourd face has progressed. Like some of you, I am an intuitive artist. I have an idea of what I want, and start in. As I work that original idea may change several times. I also get so into what I am doing that I forget to take photos. I tried and I think I did pretty well with that. You can see part 1 here.
I have been working on the paper mache face. If you read part 1 I made two, one with clay, one paper mache. The PM got clay too and a grout/plaster of paris.
|
Nose armature. There are many ways to achieve this. It's just how I do it. |
Add PM to hold in place. |
Start putting in PM and shaping the nose |
Nose is shaped and the mouth is in. |
Normally I would make a PM past but I just didn't want to. It is an ordeal. So, to the clay. |
The mouth is also covered. |
At this point the head is heavy. I use whatever is in my art room to balance it. Once the clay dries it will sit straight. |
This was going to be a cutesy face when I started, then I decided to make something dark for Rain's TAD. You all know I love dark. |
This is a mixture of Plaster of Paris and tile grout. It is easy to make but one must work quickly. |
Today I will sand, do more shaping and then airbrush paint and embellish this gourdy guy.

I like how one eye is round and one is squinty.
Love those eyes!
Your process of making the face is really fascinating, even for one like me who doesn't do things like that. I love seeing how you shape it.
I hope you are feeling better!
