Hi Everyone!
Also linking with Paint Party Friday
I am very excited about TAD with Rain.
Her theme this week is Scarecrows. It just hit me so right.
Did you know
The
Egyptians used the first scarecrows in recorded history to use to
protect wheat fields along the Nile River from flocks of quail. Egyptian
farmers installed wooden frames in their fields and covered them with
nets. Then they hid in the fields, scared the quail into the nets and
took them home to eat for dinner. There is a lot of history about scarecrows. Check this one if you are interested https://historybecauseitshere.weebly.com/scarecrows-historically-speaking.html
So I thought I would make my own scarecrow. Ya know in my style.
Have you ever seen the movie Silence of the Lambs? There is a part where Hannibal Lector is speaking to Clarice in the Jail. She is showing him her FBI identification. Hannibal, in a sing songy creepy voice says,
"Closer, closer, closer" Well.....
Her clothes are covered in ash.
I started like this.
Just some wood I had in my art room |
No straw so I took an old pillow and used the batting. |
A large paper towel roll for the neck. I painted it black |
Used grocery bags to paper mache the head. |

One more for TAD
a 10 minute quick draw.
Hope you enjoy your time here.

I think, my scarecrow is the direct opposite of yours! *LOL* I'd jump every now and then, when this guy would live in my garden. :D Have a great day, my friend!
This is incredible, Nicole. I am in total awe. You have also solved the problem I had when I made one and that was the head was so heavy. I used a basketball, but it was not my first choice. I'm truly in awe of how you created this. It was brilliant.
Hi Nicole :) I LOVE your scarecrow and I remember that scene in Silence of the Lambs, I was hearing Hannibal's voice as I looked at your photos! You are inspiring me to do some more paper mache this year! Did you name your fella? :) I love the raven too, this was so much fun to see!! Your quick doodle is really nice! :)
I'm a big scaredy-cat and I would definitely stay out of your yard if I saw that amazing scarecrow.
Nicole,
WOW, you actually made your own scarecrow - cool! It seems a long, long time ago when the kids were small we might have done that except we just sat ours on the porch for Halloween. You and I are on the same page with our illustration this week, though. Have a doodletastic and spooktacular day!
Curious as a Cathy

Makes the scarecrow look even scarier. In my country, usually just cute with a smile on his face.
