Hi Everyone!
Today is T day with Bluebeard and Elizabeth. My T stands for smoke and fire. As most of you know last Tuesday I had eye surgery. The next day we had to drive back to Eugene to have a post-op exam. There had been a fire blazing about 15 mile east of us in a wooded area called Sweet Creek in the town of Mapleton. There are only 3 ways out of Florence and all three are 2 lane hyw. Going to Eugene is 126 and right by the fire. 8 water tank helicopters were flying and fire departments from 4 different towns were all fighting the blaze. This fire was started by an arson that was found and arrested. Close to 400 acres burned. As far as I know all the homes were saved. I hope they hang the arson.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
THERE ARE SEVERAL FIRES IN CENTRAL OREGON. LAST NIGHT THE WINDS CHANGED AND NOW WESTERN OREGON INCLUDING THE COAST IS INUDATED WITH SMOKE. WE GOT ALERTS ALL DURING THE NIGHT. THERE WILL BE NO GOING OUTSIDE TODAY.

I know this is nothing compared to the CA fires but fire is fire and as dry as it is this could have been worse. The men and women fighting fires anywhere are heroes.
Also today I saved a bird that hit my front window. He hit so hard that I saw feathers in the wind. I covered him with one of my art towels and inspected his wings and ribs. He was very stunned (I am a retired Vet Tech) I made a place for him in the shade on my back deck. I fed him water from my finger and let him be. Well I had to keep checking on him and talking to him and very lightly stroking his head. After about and hour he took more water from my finger and then flew off.
Now for my beverage, hot water going into my stay hot thermos.
Have a great Tuesday.

You had quite the eventful day when you went for your eye surgery follow-up, Nicole. Like the CA fires, the arsonist was caught and the family is working with the police and fire fighters. However, it appears this arsonist was deliberate, while the ones in CA were simply STUPID with a capital S!! Gender reveal STUPID.
So glad you made it home OK. I'm sure the smoke wasn't good for your breathing, but at least you eventually got out of the affected area.
How sweet that you saved that cute little bird. You did good.
Love that red thermos. Thanks for sharing it, your white mug, your trip to the eye doctor, and your bird rescue with us for T this nearly Tuesday, dear Nicole.
Fires are always very scary. I am so glad my Hubby is so old he quit being a volunteer firefighter. 53 is too old, right!!!
Glad your eye seems to be OK, and the bird! Last summer one tiny bird bumped into the window right here where I sit. It recovered without my help, thankfully.
Those fires look scary. Glad you were able to help the poor bird recover. Have a great week, take care! Valerie
Oh, please stay safe! The fires are horrible. And the peak is still to come, I read on the news. Here we were lucky so far and had no bigger fires like last year. There was a big one burning in a former military area and they had ammunition explodiing, which was buried in the ground. Although the fires here are nothing compared to the ones in CA or at your place. Glad you could help the little bird! What a beauty!
Oh my, what an eventful journey with the flames and little bird! Glad you made it to your appointment, it must have been scary to be so near the fire. The little bird is super cute and you did such a fabulous job looking after him/her - you're a star 😁. Take care and wishing you a very happy T Day! Hugs, Jo x
I think anyone who would purposely start a fire is really crazy in the head and should get in big trouble. Wow. Hopefully they can get that fire under control. The ones in California look bad and I know the whole state isn’t burning but they say over 25 fires. Wow. And I didn’t know you were a vet tech. Glad you saved the bird. It is always hard when they fly into windows. Worse when they hit it hard. Have a great t day and good luck with the eye. And no more fires please! Well not that you are starting them. Hugs Erika
I'm glad they caught the person who started the fire and glad it is under control now. I'm so happy you were able to nurse the sweet little bird until he could take off on his own too. Have a great day :)
Firefighters are heroes. That's dangerous work! Arsonists should be held responsible, though the damage is usually so great no one can pay for it all. Accidents are one thing, but arson is horrifying :(
Your bird recovered well under your kind, knowledgeable care. We sometimes have birds fly into our patio door, but the worst case huddled against the door for half a day or so before flying up into a plant. We did keep a close watch on her.
Happy T Tuesday!
You are also a hero(!) for saving that darling little bird. 🥰
My sister-in-law has fires in Omak, WA. too. She was without power yesterday-in the sweltering heat. As of right now, we don't know if she had to evacuate. The fires were only a few miles from her home.
I hope you are safe.
Fires can be scary-we lived in the woods after retirement for about 20 years before we moved to the lake last year. we have had to turn our share of fires back into the woods so it would not get our home and property around it. glad you could save the little bird-hugs
Happy T wishes Kathy
Good luck with your eye recovery!
Birds sometimes have a hard time around window walls. It was sweet of you to resuscitate your little visitor.
Your fire story sounds terrifying, and I hope you escape any other near-miss experiences. Here in the midwest I am overwhelmed by reading about how the western states are so vulnerable and troubled by fire.
be well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I wish you a good recovery from your eye surgery.
Forest fires are very scary and devastating. I hope yours are brought under control quickly. We lost everything but the clothes on our backs when our son was a toddler. A woman in our apartment building fell asleep smoking. It's devastating.
I love your bird rescue story. He's a cute little guy.
Happy T-Day. Stay safe and well. Hugs, Eileen
omg the smoke! We had one flare so badly in CO this weekend we couldn't go out again. Then today... snow... after near 100F for months. I am so worried about my little girl bird that sleeps on our porch since she fledged. They didn't have time to migrate, and it's supposed to be back up to 90's over the weekend after this 25F night. She's not the type to let me put her in the garage overnight. She's wild, but that doesn't stop me from loving her. I've been seeing her nightly for weeks, I love that you helped the wee birdie... How horrible that you had to get out while there was smoke everywhere. It is frightening enough to know the fires are so close by. Horrendous!
The little bird was lucky in a way that it was your car, and you knew how to look after it. Well done you.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
These raging fires are so scary and yes, harmful to be breathing in that smoke. So glad they got the arsonist! I hope your surgery went well and your eye is healing nicely.
And fingers crossed those fires are put out for good.
I have rescued a few birds that went into our windows. Scary but so far they have all been OK. Happy T day!
I've been to Florence!
wow ~ that's so sad ~ I can't imagine what that would be like to see and smell the fires in person. very frightening indeed. What a lucky little bird fellow to have you to nurse him back to health ~ precious. Blessings to you
Seeing west coast fire happening on the news is so frightening. Thinking of you and hoping for relief for everyone very soon!
We don't get big forest fires thank goodness but last year we had moorland fires which fortunately seem to be recovering well! I can imagine how scary it must have been being so close and now with the smoke problem! Glad they caught the arsonist! Well done for saving that sweet little bird! A very belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
We’ve been seeing pictures of the fires on the news 😱 hopefully the fires will be under control soon. Glad to hear the bird was just dazed and you were able to help him. Happy T Day
