Hi Everyone!

I want to thank all of you lovely people for a year of blessings.  You were there for the ups, the downs and the in-between. Your encouragement helped me travel new artistic paths and gave me confidence to say, "Hey this is who I am take me or hit the road."  LOL  Most of all, you saw me through the passing of my Dear Mom. I will cherish the notes, letters and love that was sent to me. It was and still is very difficult not having her here. However, you, my dear cyber friends came through for me.  How honored I am to know each and everyone of you.  "They" say that knowing someone through the internet isn't true friendship, that we just know the surface of what people want us to see. Ha, I think it is just the opposite. I think we reveal more of ourselves.  Here is getting to know you even better in this new year. I hope in some way I have been and will be a light for you.  From my heart to yours, the best ever year, with love, joy, hope, and much prosperity.

NEW WEBSITE

Hi Everyone!
Well the busy day of Christmas is over.  It was very quiet here, the perfect day. No rain or wind and the sun was out. Perfect! I made manicotti and fresh spinach for dinner. Yum yum. Besides that I have been working on my new website. I am VERY happy with this new program. Just a few things I had to call for assistance on, but for the most part I have not had any trouble setting it up. My domain will be the same beadwright.com, however the modern look and amenities will all be new.
It should be live in a few days.
Soooo do  you have any plans for the upcoming New Years Eve? Party? Going someplace special? I think we are staying home this year and hoping we can stay away for midnight. LOL

ANOTHER STORM WITH FATALITIES

Hi Everyone!

The storms that have plummeted the Pacific Northwest have been devastating is some areas.  There are so many mudslides, sinkholes, floods and power outages. Three days ago Florence had a mudslide killing a woman and her dog. We are yet another storm that is suppose to be bigger and worse than the last 5 we have already had. Mike and I are safe where we live. No hillsides and we are up high enough from river flooding. Some counties in the states of Oregon and Washington are now in a "State of Emergency" Hope this ends soon.
My heart goes out to the Miller family.

This is the front of the house here in Florence that was hit with the mudslide.

This is the back of it.

Where ever you are please be safe.

LIQUITEX MEDIUMS

Hi Everyone!
Last week I was having a problem with blogger so to finish up with the types of paints that Liquitex carries. This is basic information just to show you what options you have for your art. Here is last weeks link.

With all of the types of paints available there are also
Fluorescent colors. These acrylic colors are intense, brilliant colors, produced from dyes surrounded by a polymer coating. The Dyes absorb invisible ultraviolet light and emit visible light of a longer wavelength, reflecting more light than they receive. As a result, they fluoresce or glow and will visibly overpower paints made from traditional pigments.  One of the characteristic faults of the Fluorescent paints is that they fade rather rapidly because the dyes are not stable. These are known as Lightfastness lll and should not be used for work that is meant to be permanent. Fluorescent colors are translucent and greater intensity can be achieved by working over a bright white surface. If a greater permanency is desired, a topcoat of Liquitex Soluvar Gloss Varnish or Soluvar Matte Varnish which contain Ultraviolet Light Stabilizer is recommended.

Next is Liquigemstm acrylic glitter paint. This is a heavy body 100% acrylic polymer emulsion paint that contains a  heavy concentration of mica flakes. Glitter colors dry to a thick, three dimensional consistency and will appear milky when wet.

GlossiesTM acrylic enamel paint are a water based acrylic enamels that are specially formulated to adhere to slick, non porous materials such as, glass, tiles, glazed ceramics, stoneware, china, enamelware, primed metal, wood and other non oily surfaces. Air-dried colors dry to a durable, high gloss finish. Heat set colors dry to a scratch resistant high gloss finish. All colors are lightfast. Suitable for indoor and out door applications ( when heat set) All GlossiesTM colors are inter-mixable and can be easily blended to achieve any color.

In addition there are spray paints, marker and inks just to name a few.

Be sure to read the instructions with any of these paints and test them to make sure they are what you want or need.

Now for a brief introduction to next weeks post.
Acrylic Mediums
As you know in addition to the widest array of Professional and Student colors Liquitex offers a the broadest possible range of acrylic mediums. Sometimes the mediums can be difficult to grasp until you actually try them. So Liquitex has tried to simplify usage by classifying products in three distinct categories. Prep, Paint, and Finish
Surface preparations set the foundation for stable and permanent color and applications by sealing and adding tooth to almost any painting surface. Liquitex offers five different types of acrylic gessoes to accommodate all types of work.
With the painting category, there are several different types of products you would use in addition to the color itself. They are Fluid Mediums, Gel Mediums, Additives and Texture Gel. These painting mediums allow an artist to adjust the work and optical properties of the paint film to accomplish an astonishing variety of techniques and application
Finish. Varnishes are applied over a completed piece of work to change or unify the surface sheen and protect the painted surface from the environment and ultraviolet light.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY DEC. 18

Hi Everyone!

Today started another big storm here. Now we get lots of rain and wind on the Oregon coast but lately it has been monstrous, wicked winds. The gusts rattle my house and truly does sound like a roar. So I will post this then get off my PC.
Big thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting Paint Party Friday

I mention a few weeks ago that my learning this winter will be on how to draw and paint hair. I am really aweful at it. Here are my first attempts. Don't laugh..... Oh OK go ahead you can laugh. I laugh at my own self quite often.  Hopefully by next spring I will be able to do "hair"

A quick sketch of a face kind of looking down and then the long and short of it.
I used several different pencils and a gum eraser.

This is an old face I drew some time ago and thought why not put some hair on her. Tried to do curly waves.

Since I have two big shows lined up for next year with my tiles and new sculpts, I try to get at least two small or 1 big one done a week. I did get two finished last week. However it is so dark today I can't get a good shot of both of them. This is a 12x12" tile called "Losing My Path"

OOHHHHH ART SUPPLIES

Hi Everyone!

It is always a happy day when I get art supplies especially on sale, with additional %20 off and free shipping. How can you go wrong with that? When I do find deals like that I order items I wouldn't normally buy. Ya know because they are very expensive. LOL  So three things I have been wanting to play with are the Liquitex Lava, Flakes, and glass beads mediums. I can hardly wait to try them out. So do ya wanna see what I got?
Yes I got these deals from Dick Blick. They have a new promotional gong on now.

The pencil set was such a good deal that I bought two. One for me and one for DH.
I did use these last night. Very nice quality.
10 water color, 10 drawing, 10 colored, 10 charcoal and 10 metallic. I do believe I got the last two sets.

I don't normally buy many colored paints. I mix my own but these were such a great price I couldn't pass them up and will be perfect for sculpture painting.

I have some good plans for these texture mediums.

LIQUITEX INFO WEEK 3

Hi Everyone!

This week I will share more about the paints that Liquitex carries. The selection is long and can accommodate any of your artistic adventures. You can check out previous posts here. Also here
Liquitex Basics are very popular for so many reasons.
36 value priced colors. The colors are uniquely formulated to bring out the maximum brilliance and clarity of each individual pigment. Colors are inter-mixable with all the Liquitex Professional Grade Colors and Mediums. All colors are non-toxic and hold the AP seal from ACMI for safe education use. Flip-top cap for quick and easy dispensing and closing. Contains the same binder as Liquitex Professional Grade Acrylics.

Basics® Matt
Basics Matt is a soft body acrylic with a smooth consistency for easy application and blending. Its free flow formula ensures an even leveling. Basics Matt's rich saturated colors dry to a flat matte sheen and have gouache-like properties for excellent o opacity.  Creamy, soft body consistency allows for easy brush out and thinning with water or mediums .Water resistant when dry. Allow seven days to fully dry.

Liquitex also carries a Decorative Series of Interference colors. These paints are actually colorless, transparent colors made from titanium coasted mica flakes rather than  from traditional pigments. I know colorless colors?  They are also known as "Opalescent colors" They change their dioxide color exhibiting a metallic look and color shift depending on the viewing angle. As the light hits the mica flakes it either bounces off directly, reflecting the color or passes through to another layer and bounces out at a different refractive index displaying the colors complement. The effect is visually similar to a thin coat of oil floating on water.  The come in 2oz containers.

Iridescent paints are also known as "metallic"  paints that do not tarnish. They mimic the effect of bronzing powders. Bronzing powders can NOT be used with acrylic emulsions as they tarnish due to the alkalinity of the binder. Iridescent paints are made from titanium coated mica flakes with an outer layer of transparent light absorbing colorant, rather than traditional pigments. Light absorbing colorant layers determine the observed color. Iridescent pigments are "optically opaque" and they rely on the reflected light only for the effect. No interference "flip" color is observed. These colors will not oxidize.

I had a longer list of paints  but for some reason  the text would not appear on my blog. I will try for those next week.
