Hi Everyone!
This has been a trying week for me. I have been going to physical therapy every day. I am sooooo happy to report that my feet are getting better. Kate, my therapist, is fantastic! I am confident that when she is done with me I will have walk-ABLE feet again. LOL
For Paint Party Friday I am showing a work in progress.
It is a beaded face and hand. I molded, carved and prepped the face for beading. I molded my own hand, actually two fingers and thumb and cover it with leather. I beaded the face first. Then attached hand to the face and beaded that. I adopted this style of beading from Huichol yarn art. Some artists of the Huichol tribe take colorful yarns and wrap them around spiritual animals. My grandmother gave this to me in 1972.
She and my grandfather spent time in Mexico with a Huichol family.
Sooooo why not do this with strands of seed beads? Over the last 40 plus years I have created many pieces with this technique.
This is still a WIP
The head is partially carved out and the hand is backwards. A woman's feeling of "life" the hardships, that sometimes twist us, muddle our thoughts and perplex our vision of the future.
In all of this we maintain our beauty.
She is entitled
"Torsion"
(twisted, bewilderment, entanglement, quandary)
Hope you enjoy
The finishes still need to be applied then mounted.
I use Czech and Toho seed beads and tacky glue for this.
Lay down a line of glue then string seed beads on a short piece of thread
Lay the seed beads in a line on the glue.
Hold the beads with your finger and pull the thread out from the beads. I use a flat toothpick to push the beads tightly in place. You can work several row, then give it some drying time before continuing.
Hopefully she will be done by next week.
