Thursday Schlotsky bread recipe

 Hi Everyone!

Here is the Schlotsky's bread recipe.

internet image.
You will need;
I/2C warm water 110°F/45°C
1 T white sugar, 2 1/4 t dry yeast
1/4 t baking soda,
1 1/2 t warm water temp as above
3/4C warm milk temp as above
1/2 t salt, 2 1/2C flour, 2 T cornmeal.

1. In a small bowl stir together the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir to dissolve and set aside.
2. In a large bowl dissolve baking soda with the 1 1/2 teaspoons warm water. Add the warm milk, salt, and one cup of the flour. Beat with a wire whisk until smooth. Beat in yeast mixture and remaining flour. Batter should be thick, sticky, and smooth.

3. Prepare 2 pie pans ( or bread pans) with non-stick spray. Dust pans with cornmeal. Place 1/2 dough in each pie pan. Batter will spread during rising time. Spray top of dough with non-stick cooking spray. Cover and let rise for one hour.

4. Repeat spraying of bread with non-stick cooking spray. Bake in a preheated 375 degree F (190 degrees C) for 20 minutes.

The recipe reads to allow to cool for 1 hour before slicing. Ha ha ha that doesn't work in my house. Nothing better than home made, warm bread and butter.
If baked in a pie pan it should look something like this.

I'm gong to have to find some small pie pans to bake this bread in.
If you give it a try let me know how you like it.
Have a great day
Nicole

I would need to look if I get cornmeal here... But! When self-raising flour´s BB-date is over you can still use it? I got that in Madeley/Perth in 2024 and... forgot it, BB 12/25 is still OK? I never even opened it! (You cannot buy that here). AI says yes, but can one really trust AI?

I wish I could eat that....I would surely make some. The flour (wheat) is a no-no for my way of eating. But it surely looks good.
