It is all wrong here

 Hi Everyone!

Just a note. Yes, the posts got messed up so some of the comments I had to copy and past under my name.

Living in the US now is just a scary place. All thanks to the "thing" in the white house and the reprehensible people that do his bidding and those that voted for him. With him wanting to start WW3 and taking over countries that will benefit him, we also now have him talking about cancelling the midterms. He started taking about it in January and then again during an interview with Reuters.

This is one of many things that I knew would happen sooner or later and it is happening now. The "thing" doesn't just talk out of the side of his neck. Once he starts talking about something it soon happens. The president has no constitutional authority over federal election administration, this belongs to the states.  Some Red states will just do what he asks. Other Red states will be paid to halt the midterms. Blue states will be threatened with losing federal funding if they don't comply. I can see this to be the real beginning of civil war in my country.
With voting in mind, according to
NPR's congressional retirement tracker, as of Jan. 8, 2026, there are 58 current representatives and senators who are retiring or running for a different office — 11 senators and 47 House members.
So who will be running for these places? Or will the "thing" just say let's not have a congress? Something to think about.

1. Immediate Legal Challenges
  • Lack of Authority: Under federal law and the Constitution, the President has no unilateral power to cancel or postpone federal elections.
  • State Control: Elections are administered by individual states, not the federal government. For an election to be halted, a President would theoretically need the compliance of all 50 states, which is considered a "virtual impossibility".
  • Supreme Court Intervention: Any executive order attempting to suspend voting would be immediately challenged. Experts suggest the Supreme Court would likely rule such an action unconstitutional, as the timing of federal elections is set by Congress, not the Executive Branch.
  • I wonder about this Supreme Court.
2. Constitutional Deadlock
  • Expiration of Terms: The Constitution mandates that the terms of all 435 House members and one-third of the Senate expire in January 2027.
  • Loss of Quorum: If elections are not held, there would be no legal mechanism to fill these seats. Congress would effectively cease to function due to a lack of members, preventing the passage of any laws, budgets, or presidential appointments.
3. Political and Civil Unrest
  • Impeachment Risk: The "thing" himself has acknowledged that the midterms are "existential," stating that if Democrats win control of the House, he will likely face immediate impeachment.
  • Civil Resistance: Experts warn that attempting to halt a bedrock democratic process could lead to mass street protests, civil disobedience, or even domestic conflict.
  • International Backlash: Such an action would likely lead to a total cessation of foreign tourism and severe economic instability as global markets react to the collapse of the American democratic process.
4. Alternative Tactics for Interference
Rather than a total halt, analysts point to other methods the administration might use to influence the 2026 outcome:
  • Federal Policing: Reports suggest the administration may consider deploying federal agents (such as ICE) to "patrol" polling sites under the guise of security, which critics argue is a form of voter intimidation.
  • Voter Data Access: The Justice Department has already sued multiple states to gain access to private voter data files.
  • Redistricting: The administration has pushed Republican-led states to undertake mid-decade redistricting to maximize GOP congressional seats before the November vote.
  •
  • This no longer feels like my country.

  1. Debra she who seeks Under American law, if the US declares war officially or activates the Insurrection Act in case of insurrection at home, this automatically suspends all federal elections. That's why FDR had 3 terms as president because no elections could be held during World War II. I've been waiting for Trump to manipulate the US into such a situation since his inauguration. I think that's the real reason ICE is escalating the domestic situation so dramatically. Trump's stated ambition is not to have elections ever again so MAGA can stay in power unchallenged. Sorry to write this downer of a prediction but Americans need to wake up.

  2. My Name is Erika I agree Nicole. The 3 powers of government are supposed to keep each other in check. But that isn't happening. I agree. I don't recognize this country any more. Here in NH the state wants to do more book banning in schools. Book Banning? Why? and there is no need for our country to go into Greenland. Who are these warped people following the president? They obviously have no free will or thoughts or believe so many false stories. This has to end...Ice, Greenland, no elections...this is not the United States of America but a Facist dictatorship.

  3. AC here. Why are all comments seen as you?

Anyway, I find it all so distressing, and very little protest seems to happen.

  4. I agree with every word you said. I don't know my country anymore and the way it is now, I certainly don't love it. I also know emigrating after a certain age is very challenging -- legally, emotionally, and yes, even physically. So all I can do right now is protest, send nastygrams to our bad Rep, work to get him kicked out of office in the fall and financially and physically support good, solid candidates. It will take a long time to get our country back on track. It's too deep. I equate it with a hurricane or tornado or fire -- it wipes everything out fast but the rebuild takes a long time. I say "hear, hear!!" to the people in Minnesota who are engaging in creative ways. I hope they will stay safe. But I worry about that too.

  5. Hello Nicole,
I firstly have to tell you that I was very interested in your post.
According to the US' Constitution, a general election will be held near the midterm of a president's four-year term of office. How can that man talk about cancelling midterm election?
That man already brought your country close to the civil war on January 6th, 2021, when he attempted to overturn the results of the presidential election.
Now the Supreme Court and the Senate can call for impeachment of that man, which you rightly define as "the thing". I hope that Billionaires' puppet will be kicked out of office as soon as possible.

As you know, I like reading information about that topic. Thank you for sharing such interesting article.

    Have a lovely Sunday,
    G.

  6. Actually there have been protests all over the country and ICE breaks them up. They are using force and it has already cost lives, so people are getting afraid. That is exactly what he wants. We are in serious trouble and it is going to take people like you and me and everyone we know to bring this to an end. He can only do so much if all the people take to the streets and stand up for our rights. Yes, and I too ask, where are the people now? He just keeps pushing the limits ... This is America and this cannot ... will not happen!

    Stay strong ...

  8. Certainly those of us who live outside the United States don’t recognize the country any more.
