Sorry this is kind of long I got carried away.
As all of you know I try not to be political on my blog. Also, as open as I am about some personal things, I have never talked about how Mr. M. and I get by. When I lost my business to covid, I thought, "How in hell would we live just on our small social security?" At that time we signed up for SNAP.
It was a life saver for us.
I also doubled the size of my garden and started canning like a mad woman. I knew there would be a day like now.
The people in charge don't go hungry, they get $79.00 a day for meals paid with our taxes. SNAP covers $6.19 a day. They don't go without the best healthcare. They choose from a gold-level Obamacare policy and receive federal subsidies that cover 72 percent of the cost of the premiums. There are other subsidies that our tax dollars pay for too. What they don't do, is go to bed worrying, and wondering how they are going to pay the rent, utilities, food, and medications.
Yesterday I received a letter telling me my prescriptions will now be $12.69 starting Jan. Right now I'm paying $1.69. We are seeing someone to try and change this.

As he hosted a lavish party of his closest billionaire buddies at Mara-a- largo, while millions of people lose their SNAP.
There was two stand alone bills to fund SNAP. Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune opposed both legislations.
To use hunger as a political tool is, in my opinion, the most evil a government can do. The "thing" has already stated that SNAP is gone. This is part of his plan. Shut down the government so he can do what he wants. Have Mike Johnson keep congress on hiatus. It's been over a month now. Get rid of SNAP, Obamacare subsides, next will be Medicare. ICE is just the beginning of his nationalization of so called law enforcement. Get rid of anyone who goes against him, Pardon criminals that will be loyal to him, and there are so many other illegal and unethical things he has done. Last he will rig the voting. (Again?) You don't build a 90,000 Sq Ft ball room and then leave it.
So, right before our eyes we have a dictator who hates anyone that he can't befit from.

ReplyDeleteYes, it is hard. Mine was $4.33 a day...and you know how much groceries have gone up. I envy your lovely jars of home-canned foods. They will be a godsend and worth all that effort you put in growing and canning. I was on food stamps when Dagan was little and I remember the last week of the month not eating meals so Dagan could eat and running out of milk for him. I think of all the families, children, seniors, disabled, and veterans...cruelty is the point. :(

ReplyDeleteBravo. Just Bravo. Everything you said is so true, so perfect. I get angry at the senators and reps who refuse to bend, puppets to a master puppet. But I get even more angry at the "real, everyday people" who believe what they say. Real people should know better. I do not understand the sheep. You are amazing with what you have done. You also have the gift of being resourceful, creative, and land to grow things on. You might have a boatload of physical issues between you two, but you are still able to get in the garden, stand in the kitchen and do this. And so many can't even do that. (And with all that, even you two are challenged.) I'm sorry about your Rx increase. The whole thing. It's a mess.
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is he was elected in a fair and free election and it was never a secret what he stood for. He was elected under the same set of rules as every other president throughout your history. No one can be surprised that this is happening.

ReplyDeleteYou said this so well. I was recently reading something about how many hours in a week people in different countries need to work in order to live just above the poverty level. In Japan it was 4 hours of work a week. In the US it is 80. What is it with these republicans? Many who come from the poorest states. And you are right about these people in charge getting the best of the best of everything. And they are letting the thing do whatever pops into his delusional mind. Thanks for saying this. ReplyDeleteHi Erika, yes I read about how other countries care for their people and it is amazing how the US has fallen behind dreadfully in this area, and not just with this administration. For a nation to allow their people to go hungry and not have proper medical, well there is a special place in hell for them.

Hi Margaret, I'm not sure how your new carries in Australia, but if tearing down democracy, deploying ICE, and federalizing the National Guard to imprison people without due process. Having the speaker of the house put congress on leave so there are no votes. Taking bribes, and million dollar gifts from other countries, starting wars, removing the US from National organizations like WHO, UN Human Rights, UNESCO. Lying, cheating and let's not forget the Epstein files and the fact that he is a convicted felon 34 times and I can go on. If that's getting it done, Australia needs more informed news. Rational people in the US are sickened that he "made" his way back into the white house.

ReplyDeleteI am appalled at the current government. As you said, people on SNAP are NOT the problem. Those in Congress should be made to pay the REAL costs of their healthcare.

My head is exploding whenever I think about people who need government assistance but still voted for the current regime and its disastrous and increasingly cruel future. Do they regret it? Are they even competent to understand cause and effect? Obviously, lots of other voters were also complicit in the election a year ago, but many of them are greedy and profiting from the pain of others. What a situation!
