It Was an OMG Day

 Hi Everyone!
It truly was an OMG day! Mr. M. and I had to drive to Salem today. Ohh and it's been snowing. This photo shows the start of it. Remember I live at sea level.

The last several years we have been getting snow. I have lived in heavy snow country most of my adult life, so this is nothing. However, it is NOT supposed to snow here! Anyway, we headed out and by the time we got about 15 miles up the road it was snowing pretty heavily. I had forgotten my camera and my phone doesn't have a very good camera. Despite that, I had to get some shots. The further east we drove the worst it became.
This is Hwy 126, on the list of most dangerous roads in Or. And now we have snow. No one has snow tires and most people have never driven in snow here.
On the road. I'm so glad Mr. M. was driving today. He is excellent behind the wheel.
It started out kind of pretty

And the road was not bad.

It's starting to get a bit slushy here.

A bit further up the road and there was a snow plow in front of us. Hmmm both Mr. M. and I have plowed snow. This person has no idea what they are doing.

Then we have the idiots who wanted to pass. This is ice under slush. Again these photos are with my phone and not great.

The first car in the ditch. We saw 6 today.

On the other side of the road was this. I guess he was going to dig the car out.

This is a lot of snow for us.

All the way to the foothills.

 Just another field and foothills.
It was very pretty. Until we had to turn.

Turning onto Poodle Creek Road. We should have gone through town. This road to Hwy 36 is always plowed. Except for today.

We came upon cars just stopped in the road. Not in the photo are several cars off the road. I saw a flatbed truck up the road a bit, stopped, and his back end was sliding toward the ditch. The driver slowing drove up further.

We got around the cars. One of the guys from the truck was walking toward the cars. He  told us to stay on the high side of the road. That it is solid ice under the snow.

OMG! He wasn't lying. We were slipping and sliding. Mr. M. kept us going but at one point even he said, "Were going over the edge" He pulled us out though.

This is the last photo. This sunshine only last a nano second and we were back in the ice under snow.

We saw 4 cars and 2 trucks off the road today. They were either already getting help or the vehicles were abandoned. We finally made it to I-5 and to the doctor. On our way out of the parking lot. I said, "It feels like the car is slipping." Mr. M. said, "No it's fine." Until we came to a light and the care wouldn't idle. OMG!!!! It took all Mr. M. had to keep the car running. The check engine light was flashing on and off. We though maybe water in the gas. We stopped for gas and treatment. Nooo that wasn't it. We took a different way home and 3 hours later we were in the drive way. We have an OBD scanner so Mr.M. will do that tomorrow. We will also be taking the car in. I do not have the funds to fix a major car repair. Just hoping it is something small.
So how was your day? LOL
Nicole

Yes, insecure drivers are the worst! We get snow once in a while but you still have those idiots who overtake and end up in the ditch.
Glad you made it home safely, fingers crossed there is nothing bad with your car!

The snow sceneries are very beautiful. Even though you live by the sea, it is even harder for snow to happen.

The climate is changing all over so snow may become a more regular feature of winters where you live. Good luck with the car repairs. Hope it doesn’t break the bank.

That is no fun. When it snows here I try to stay home because folks here don't have a clue about driving on snow/ice. (And the idiots that think they need to go faster and pass.....well---arrrgh)

We could have the same problem, as many people have never driven in snow in Rome and its surroundings. In February 2018, Rome witnessed its last significant snowfall.

I hope car repair will not be expensive.
Take care!

Yeah, those are nasty looking roads! I hope your car doesn't require any big repairs.

...cars can be too complex these days.

That looks like slick and wet snow. What a winter. We're getting snow today too. Not that it's unusual for us, but I bet in your area people just don't know how to drive in it. Hope today is a better day.

What an ordeal! Bravo Mr. M!
Prayers the engine was just having a slight anxiety issue after seeing cars off the road.

It is always awful driving when there is ice underneath the snow. Has to be bad when people aren't used to driving in it. People are used to it here and yet we have (impatient overconfident) people in the ditches all the time. Kudos to Mr M!! I hope it isn't anything big with the car.

Boa tarde de quinta-feira. Não sei como seria a reação do meu corpo. Aqui estamos com 40 graus à quatro dias.

Kudos to Mr M to get you safely to the doctor and back home again. We very rarely have snow where I live (twice in 24 years) and it usually disappears afte a couple hours, but when we go to the Sierra in the winter we more often than not see people (tourists) wo are not used to driving in the snow. It's terrible. We always carry cables with us that can be quickly out on the tires, and we're also experienced drivers in snow and ice, since we drove for many years in a part of Germany where we had snow every winter. Those over-confident and impatient drivers are the worst!

Snow is always so pretty-but not to drive in for sure-I did a lot of that kind of driving when I was working in northern Illinois--hoping your car will be an easy fix and not expensive-glad you two made it home safely

Oh Nicole, that sounds absolutely harrowing. I freak completely, driving in ice. And while it is beautiful, I'd take "ugly" any day when it comes on driving like that. I'm so very glad you were were safe. You're right about people not knowing how to drive on that in regions unused to ice, but even when you know, there are no guarantees. I hope your car situation isn't outrageously expensive. You've had enough of late.
