Hi Everyone!
Today is the T-Party over at
Stop by to see what everyone is doing.
For me T stands for painting. I have not picked up a brush in a very long time but as I am starting to feel better I wanted to paint. A very rough draft of a face and the background in acrylics. I am sure the background will evolve as I go.
It feels like, since covid, our lives have become very quite and our outings are necessary. Not spur of the moment, fun outings like we used to do. In some ways I really don't mind. I keep myself busy. This week we had to drive to Coos Bay to get an oil change in the car. While we were there I wanted to go to Walmart. OMG what was I thinking? I haven't been to Walmart in years and I won't be going back anytime soon. However, with that said I was able to find things I need at much less expensive prices. For instance a 10lb bag of terrible potatoes here is over $6.00. I was so pleased to get a 20lb bag of the best potatoes for $7.00. (we have no sales tax here so the price is what it is) So what did I do with 20lbs of potatoes?
20lbs
|
27 pints of canned potatoes
|
Cucumbers are finally coming in.
|
The first 2 clovers finally blooming.
|
A male flower
|
A female flower
|
And I get Patty Pan Squash
|
I am so pleased with these and there is a lot more on the plants.
|
On the way home from Coos Bay we stopped at the docks in Reedsport. We were very surprised to see how the city has upgraded the docks and parking lot. It was full too. Nice to see all the local boaters.

This restaurant has been there for decades.
|
The blue roofed restaurant has been there for decades too but has recently changed owners. I hear the food is excellent.
|
|
The water way here is the Umpqua River.
|
|
|
Does anyone know what these are? It's not corn
|
They grow very close to the ground and they are soft.
|
In Oregon there are pot stores everywhere. This one is in Reedsport
|
This is one of 3 in my town.
|
No, I do not smoke pot or anything else for that matter. LOL I better show my drink. I have not had a pop in many years. However, the other day Mr. M. brought some sugar free 7 up to help easy my stomach. Ohhh it was so cold and refreshing.
Well I am off to do the dishes and then finish watching my series. Have a great evening.
Nicole

Sounds like a great day out you had!
No taxes?
We had one WalMart here in Braunschweig ages ago. I liked it. Simple, good quality and cheap. No idea why they left Germany.
All your food looks so great and I look forward to that face. Glad you are feeling better!
Happy T-Day.
Looksx slike you made the most out of your oil change trip. Glad you got good produce for less money, enjoy the canned potatoes. No pot shops here, not that I would want it! Looking forward to seeing your face evolve. Happy T Day with 7up! Valerie
...that looks like Italian arum.
I am quite sure you are the canning queen of the universe, Nicole! Glad you didn't get the 50lb bag of potatoes!
Good morning, good to read you are feeling better. enjoyed your post, nice that you have water and boats nearby. wal mart can be a crazy place for sure-I go there when they open around 6 to 7 am no one in the store then or very very few people.
canned potatoes will come in handy, enjoyed all your photos Happy new week Kathy
Happy T-day, Nicole.
I love seeing what you can - you are you so talented.
Can't wait to see the finished painting and so glad you have started it!
Super cool pictures of lovely flowers, veggies and other things you have found! We so those stores on all corners around here - I am hoping it is a fad and they fade out soon but not sure that will happen.
Hoping you are feeling better. I am thinking of you.
Many hugz
I think (after a lot of google searches) that the plant (not corn) is a Dragon Lily. (Dracunculus Vulgaris) When it is in bloom, it is said to smell like rotting meat. I think this "fruit" is the seed pods at the end of the season.
The way you are starting this painting is very different than how I start. I have never sketched on a canvas. Perhaps I should try to paint this way.
I'm glad to hear you are feeling better Nicole. Aren't prices something else right now Reedsport looks beautiful, and hurrah for cukes from the garden. I have been getting a bunch too.And I didn't know how to tell male from female squash flowers. Thanks for sharing. I hope you have a lovely T day. Hugs-Erika
So many amazing photos! Such a wonderful painting and itooks like your garden is doing well 😊. Coos Bay looks like a lovely place to visit too! Sorry I don't have too much time to visit today but I wanted to stop by to wish you a Happy T Day! Hugs
I refuse on principle to shop in WalMart but their prices are good. We don't have taxes on groceries, but prepared food does have tax. Prices everywhere are going through the roof.
My friend Sally needed to go to WalMart this week, so I went with her after I gor my hair cut. I got some bargains that were cheaper than I could get at Dollar Tree, which to me is now a JOKE. I can see no reason to go there (Dollar Tree) anymore. Glad you also found bargains.
Your cukes are great. I bought ONE at Aldi for a dollar. I know you are laughing at me for doing so. Loving your squash and pretty flowers, too.
So nice you took us with you to Reedsport and enjoyed seeing the docks. The river looks lovely and clean, too.
Plantnet can tell you what the flowers are. CJ offered Deb a link, so check her blog for the link.
Wow. I wish they would at least allow MEDICAL marijuana in Kansas. The taxes the stores collect would get us out of debt, support better and higher paid teachers, and build far better schools.
Nice that your 7-up was good for your tummy. My grandmother used to give me that when I got sick. Great memories.
Thanks for sharing your veggies, your trip to Coos Bay and Reedsport, and your 7-up with us for T this Tuesday, dear Nicole. Nice to see you are taking up acrylics again, too.
Ginger ale is good for the tummy too.
Nicole, I'm so glad that you feel a bit better and have even started to paint again. The face already looks very captivating. Your canning is amazing! Good thing you found good potatoes. I think Tom is right, the plant is arum. It turns up in my garden as well and in the spring it has lovely leaves. We went through Reedsport every time we were at the Oregon Coast (there really is no way around it...) and the only place we know here is the Oregon Dunes Visitor Center in town. I will remember the restaurant with the blue roof for our next visit, whenever that will be.
That's a lot of potatoes! I'm glad you found them at such a good price. We used to get 7-Up sometimes when I was little, and it can help settle an uneasy stomach. Happy T Tuesday!
I shop at Walmart almost exclusively.. Its the cheapest place in town.. No i do not enjoy the crowds either but i'm not willing to pay more for the same thing somewhere else just because i don't like the crowds.. Beautiful photos.. i wish i knew what that plant was called but CJ shared a link with me that helped me name a plant for me.. I THINK it was plantnet?? Hopefully she'll share it with you.. Happy T day! Hugs! deb
I know COVID was difficult for many due to the lack of socialization, but I am an introvert and I loved having a reason to stay in my home. Even now, I am sad that I have to leave my house. Glad that you were able to get out and about to enjoy an outing. That means you must be feeling a bit better? I hope so.
Looking forward to seeing your painting completed. Looks like it will be a good one.
I always am amazed at how you can everything. I think I would enjoy walking into your pantry.
I don't know what that plant is, but I love the color variety. Maybe squash of some sort?
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
I would be avoiding walmart if I had one lol. I think your weird plant is a dragon arum (voodoo lily), it has a weird smell and a big weird flower eventually lol. A bit like a triffid lol. Looking forward to seeing your finished painting. Happy T Day Elle/EOTC xx
I was wondering if the plant is Jack in the Pulpit. The seeds. Your gardening is amazing-I have scrolled through your posts and I am awed by what your garden produces and how you put it all to good use.
We shop for certain things at certain stores, because you can never just assume if one thing is cheaper, it all is. We have a Walmart, an Aldies and a Kroger where we go most of the times. All are within a decent distance, so it is not like we are driving all over the place.
I am glad you are feeling better. Your drawing/painting looks like it is going to be amazing. I do not know what that "not corn" plant is, but it looks really interesting and colorful. Happy T Day, and hope you continue to get to feeling better.
A good start to the face. You must have a large cupboard to store all your canned goods, plus lots of jars. Over here in the UK Walmart owned Asda for a while [FROM 1999] but it change hands last year.
Glad to hear you're feeling better. I just saw Deb's comment. PlantNet lets you upload photos of plants for identification. There's also a free app for your phone. Your garden looks amazing. No tax on food or clothing here in MA. I'm not a big fan of Walmart, but it's convenient and you do all your shopping in one swell foop! Happy T Day
It looks like a nice ride. I love those not-corn things. They're very pretty! I know what you mean about Walmart. I hate them. But sometimes you can't beat the price.
So glad you are feeling better ~ you are so creative ~ Wow! Xo
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days ~ Xo
