AEDM day 23

Hi Everyone!

Good Monday morning. This is day 23 for AEDM. I really can't believe how quickly the month is going by. I have another sketch. I am truly enjoying drawing again. There is an artist on You tube  that some of you may know. Painting with Jane. I listened to her story when she was in art school. One of her professors told the class to go out and draw 100 faces and that he would see them next semester. She did just that finding students to sit for her. At the beginning of the next semester the students had to show their faces. The professor pointed out how much she had improved from the first few to the last few. I find that to be an interesting way to teach and one I would like. I took out all of my faces. OMG! I started drawing faces during a 29 faces month about 4 years ago. I can't believe I actually posted those faces in the beginning.  LOL No you don't get to see them, they are pretty bad. My Grandmother told me to draw each line as you see it.
I am trying to do just that.
Here is my next draw.

Your sketch is looking great Nicole!
I find it so much easier to do faces now than I used to, practise really helps.

I really love how you have shown each line. I think your grandmother had it right. I look forward to this one developing further, dear. Hope I'm not quite so late today, dear.

It would be great to see those early faces of yours. We all have some less than decent art, but I like to see where people started. I guess being a teacher for so long makes like to see how people progress on the journey. This face is looking fantastic so far. Happy new week.

Beautiful work! She is a beauty on both images.
Your grandmother was wise. Still, more easy to say then do. :)

You are off to a great start with the face, Nicole.

I've noticed that a lot of professional artists/art teachers use the term, 'quantity over quality' which basically means, the more art/sketches you do, the quality will naturally follow as we are training our hand-eye coordination with the more art/sketches we do. The book, Drawing from the Right Side of your Brain by Betty Edwards, was very helpful for me as she teaches how to disengage the critical brain while drawing. Like your grandmother, Betty Edwards teaches to draw what you see, not what your brain thinks is correct. There is a difference. Her book got me to attempt drawing portraits as far back as 2002. Like you, I feel like my later portraits are a huge improvement on earlier ones.

It's great to look back and see how far you have come though. It's a testament to your progress.

Have a lovely week ~ :)

Nicole it's so lovely to scroll and see your faces it's a beautiful artform you should embrace those past pieces as much as the present we all learn so much with each mark. You've captured those important lines she's very alluring. Hugs Tracey xx

When I look at some of my older art, I can't believe I used to paint that way! LOL!
