Hi Everyone!
The piece I am showing today for Paint Party Friday, is not how I wanted or thought it would turn out. In art, sometimes we just go off course. Anyway I do. I was feeling pretty good about this piece.
I got a good start on it.
Feeling good
Then, I thought it would be good to color his hat with a pen. It was horrible. I then colored his clothing to calm down the hat. It still looked horrible. I realized that the hat was too much against the white paper so a darker background. I so wish I had just stayed with the graphite. Anyway this is my entry for today.
Come by PPF to see what all the other wonderful artist have created.
Enjoy your day.

Delete...such a thoughtful face.
ReplyDeleteNicole I think that he was wonderful to begin with and he became more alive with the touches of color.
ReplyDeleteHe has such an expressive face...amazing portrait piece!!!
It is phenominal!

ReplyDeletetake care of yourself and stay healthy, hug Elke
Yes, not every decision is a good one, LOL! You did a super job on his face though.
ReplyDeleteHis face is the major focal point for me. There is so much character in it. Since that is most evident in the graphite piece, I agree. It’s my favorite. I think contrast, not color, is what’s most important here. (Interestingly, the original and your piece are reversed in contrast.) I have a number of pieces that I thought it would be good to change, and now I longer have them in reality because my changes didn’t work out. But like you, at least I have photos of the best stages of creation. I see your graphite piece as absolutely stunning, and completely done at that point. It’s a wonderful piece of wall art!!
ReplyDeleteHis face is incredible. Wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteThat face is so well done! The expression comes out well.
ReplyDeleteNice sketch i liked
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, Nicole. Your talent for getting the likeness is amazing.
ReplyDeleteBoa tarde. Parabéns ficou muito lindo.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work, I prefer the graphite too.
ReplyDeleteIt's so interesting to see your process Nicole you draw faces very differently to me, as the eyes are always the first thing for me to add detail to. It makes me feel connected to the image. I loved the whiteness of the page against the skin tone but sometimes we need to see things differently than just black and white it's how all artists grown. Taking process photographs is always fabulous for future reference. I think if you darkened the background in a shade closer to his hat you'd see his face emerge once more from the page. Either way I appreciate the beauty of your line work.
ReplyDeleteHope you are keeping well?? Sending PPF Hugs your way & Happy Halloween Tracey xx
Many thanks for sharing this step by step progress.
ReplyDeleteI like the finished result.
