Monday Plaster Roses

Hi Everyone!

I am pretty excited. I have a commission for a drawing. A wonderful lady has a doll that her mom got when she was 8 yrs old. Her mom is celebrating her 100th birthday and for a gift she wants me to make a drawing of the doll.  There is lots of lace on the dress so this will test my skills.

Last year I needed some roses and leaves, so off to the $ store. When I brought them home I new there needed to be a change. I just didn't want fake $ store roses on the art piece. After looking around my art room I came upon it, ahhhh plaster of paris. I made a batch and dipped the roses into it. Yes it was mess but I like messy art. I did take a brush to remove any extra. They took a long time to thoroughly dry and they chip easily. So a spray of lacquer is a good idea. Before the lacquer paint any color you like. Of course mine are black. LOL

Don't forget to do the leaves too.

I want to remind everyone that Leah is getting ready for Art Every Day Month. This is the 19th year that Leah has host this. How extraordinary is that? It begins Nov.1 and you can sign up at several place. Check it all out here. I have signed up both on the web site and FB. http://creativeeveryday.com/art-every-day-month

 Enjoy your day
and be safe out there

Congratulations on your commission. What a sweet and thoughtful gift that will be from daughter to mother :) I didn't realize plaster of Paris could make such delicate pieces. The petals!

That rose is out of this world. I didn't realize you could do so incredibly much with plaster of paris. Your rose and leaves are surly going to pair nicely with your painting.

I forgot to thank you for also passing the word about AEDM. The more bloggers we get the better, since I'm not on any other social media sites.

Hi Nicole, thanks for visiting my second blog. And I am glad I came here to be reminded of AEDM :)
Good luck with the doll drawing. That will be a great gift for the lady.

Nicole,

Cool concept with the dollar store roses! Thanks for mentioning the art challenge next month. I'm just about to exhaust myself with everything I have going now. I'm not sure I'll be up to doing another daily blog fest so soon but we'll see. I won't rule out anything just yet. ;)

Congratulations on the commission Nicole. Great news.
Your roses and leaves look wonderful.
I spotted AEDM on Instagram, and I'm looking forward to it. I think that's how we got to know each other last year.
Be safe,
Alison xx
