TAD with Rain

Hi Everyone!

Today is Thursday Art Date with Rain. This weeks theme is.... well my main form of art, Abstract. When I was about 5 or 6 my Grandmother, "Nan" who was quite a famous artist, took me to an art gallery in Seattle. I don't remember the name of it but it was huge with room after room of paintings. Each room with a designated style of art. I liked the art but remember thinking some of this is boring. Until we turned the corner and found ourselves standing in the abstract room. I was in awe and so happy. Nan and I were the only ones in the room at first and I danced around, squealing and pointing to one painting after another. On the walls were bursts of colors, movement, sudden stillness, then movement again,  gritty, no boundaries, emotion that filled me. I could see my dreams vivid dreams in the art. I could see my joy, my fear, my strength, my weakness, my hate and my love. Others started to enter the room and I was asked to calm down by the curator. That was my first introduction to abstract. I have loved it ever since. Nan taught me about abstract and the artists from around the world my whole life. Some of them she knew. Well I could go on and on about this but you don't have days and days to read this. LOL Here are a few of my favorite abstract pieces by me

Part of my Black To White Series Show.

Abstract painted glass Cabs

Very large 48x24" First place win.

Another large piece abstract of the bridge in my town. 30x30"

I wish you could see this in person. It has some real depth to it and is one of my faves.

This has some great texture.

Abstract beaded bottle
I made this in 2008

Abstract beaded necklace These are made with tiny size 13/0 Charlot cut seed beads. 2003

I love this piece. Made on a beading look in 1998 and sold.

This is how I feel when I have a migraine. Ceramic face glass eyes.

You were SO lucky to have a grandmother who was a famous artist. I absolutely ADORE your abstracts. One of my favorites is the bridge and the other is the migraine face. Stunning, but these are my faves.

What a wonderful memory Nicole, I'm always intrigued how art becomes part of ones life and it's obviously stayed with you because you express so much with your art each piece unique to your inner self, ALL stunning my friend, i'd be proud to have any within my home.
I remember my art calling very vivid, maybe one day I will share it.. Hugs Tracey xx

Nice art Nicole. I think I need A lesson in abstract. I am a more literal person. Symbolism works but abstract. None the less you have shown some fantastic art.

It's great that you had such a grandmother and came to the artist like that. You can do abstract art too and these works of art are beautiful and so are the other things! I love it!!!
stay safe and well, hugs Elke

I clicked on your first picture and went through each one as close up as I could get in this mode ... You are indeed a for real abstract artist and all of your pieces are amazing . I love the last two ... I could see the depth on the first of the two and the texture on the second (how did you achieve the texture). I have spent many hours in the Chicago Museum of Art and have had those same thoughts (boring :( ) pass through my head ... but like you, when color and form were the essence of a piece I would perk right up. We have that in common for sure and that is probably why I love your art as much as I do. Enjoyed this post immensely, Nicole ...

Nicole,

I definitely see your passion in abstract art. Your swirls, patterns, textures, and colors interact beautifully together. Your displays intrigue me even giving me hope that perhaps a little of that is somewhere locked inside. I just need to find away to pull it out like you but then you had a grandmother who opened your soul to this world at an early age allowing it to blossom over the years. Perhaps that's what I needed at a younger age, someone challenging me to look beyond reality. The painted glass cabs are my favorite but I also like the painting that you pointed out having great texture. It makes me think of a dancer leaping, like a ballerina. Thanks for sharing. You're so talented in this area. ;)

Your abstracts are all great in their own ways. Today I think the last one is my favorite. :) Even if it did hurt :)

Wowwowwow-you are amazing. Your granma was an artist-well, you are full of amazing life stories. I wish you'd tell more about your life in the wild and your grandmother.

You definitely have that abstract gene in you Nicole, your pieces are so fabulous. I love the black and whites, and I CAN SEE the depth in that painting you mentioned! The jewelry is beautiful! And I SO enjoyed reading about your day at the abstract museum...your description was poetic! :)
