PAINT PARTY FRIDAY 6/24

Hi Everyone!

Not much art this week. Lots of medical going on with my DH. I swear the gods just want to see how much they can pile on top of us. Mike woke up two weeks ago with double vision. RYKM???? So our lives have been full of all kinds of tests, scans, blood work, and what ever else can be as expensive as possible. Our vacation has also been put on hold. Ohhh, have you ever had a double vision husband tell you how to drive? It is hilarious!!!!  Mike and I are trying to keep a positive attitude and joking as much as we can, but this is not good.  Soooooo art this week has been hit and miss and nothing is really turning out very well.
Here are a few sketches and just messing around.
A  huge thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting Paint Party Friday.
Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend.

OK she looks a little scary. LOL

Just messing around. Have not drawn an apple since I was a kid. Need more practice.

Hmmm who knows what this girl is thinking. Maybe she needs a hair dresser. LOL

in conclusion

Hi Everyone.
This last week on Paint Party Friday Christine from Christine's Blog  shared that she had entered a piece of art in the Michael's Art Competition. Well it gave me a bit of courage to enter myself. There are some pretty impressive art pieces. Now like so many of us I just skimmed the rules. There are 6 judges to jury in 10 finalists. Then it is up to public vote. I really don't like this type of competition. You win on how many friends you have that will take the time to vote. LOL OH well it for fun and seeing all the art that has been entered is very inspiring. I haven't found mine or Christine's pieces so if you do let us know.
This is mine.

If you have entered Michael's Art Competition leave a comment and a link so I can share it.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY 6/17

Hi Everyone!

Pretty hectic here. Life sometimes just doesn't go the way you expect it to. The one great thing is that every day is a new beginning and  we can carry on. I do have art this week. Yay.... First a big thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting Paint Party Friday.

I got some new colored pencils a few months ago and this is the first I have tried them. Found this face on google, drew it out, and colored in my own design in it. The pencils are a bit light.

Playing around with some abstract

and using up some paint on my palate. You can't see it in this photo
but there are limbs showing through the leaves.

Going through some old art boxes and found this drawing I did back in the 1990s.
I used this on greeting cards I made.

Be sure to visit the other artists who participate.

DO YOU WEAR HATS?

Hi Everyone!

I was looking for something on line and came across hats. Now I love hats, I own many and wear them. However, I am not sure I would wear any of these. Well maybe....LOL
I do realize that some of these are for the runway and others for parades but all of them are pretty awesome. Enjoy the hats.

Now this is a matching outfit.

I don't understand wear food on your head

You know I love this one and I might wear it. Ya know to an art show.

You are probably hungry now with all the food hats. LOL

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY 6/3

Hi Everyone!

I know I am posting this on Thursday but I won't have time later tonight.
While going through a box of old art I found some "Car Art" that I did back in 2013,
Car Art is me sketching while on a road trip. It is NOT always pretty with the horrible roads we have here but it is something to do on a long trip. Anyway, just for fun I thought I would try to paint one of the sketches. I found that painting it was not as easy as sketching it. A bit more practice..... I also finished the leather sculpt. I really like these self canvases. I got a few on clearance, they are really expensive.
A big thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting Paint Party Friday. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

INTRODUCING PAT HERKAL AND BEATRIX THE RABBIT

Hi Everyone!

I am so fortunate to know some extraordinary people who create from their hearts. Pat Herkal is one of these artists.  Of course I am thrilled she created this amazing creature with Nicole's BeadBacking.
So In Pat's words here is what she did.

I started with a rabbit pattern I purchased from Cynthia Treen on Etsy. Her bunny is about 7” tall. I enlarged the pattern then changed or tweaked it to add detail. Beatrix is 17 1/2” tall.
I traced then cut my patterns out of Nicole's BeadBacking adding seam allowances where needed. Much of the head and outer ears were covered with buttons from my mother and grandmother’s button boxes. The inner ears, cheeks and soles of the feet are sequins that my mother used to make Christmas stockings. Ultrasuede is between the ears and down the nose and on the front of the ears. I used silk bits mostly hand dyed by a local fiber artist, some upholstery fabric and velvet bits for the arms, legs and body. I randomly machine stitched the fabric onto the pattern pieces drawn onto the Nicole' s BeadBacking and embellished them with crazy quilt embroidery, beads, a few charms and a broken rhinestone pin and buttons. A friend made me a felted ball and I beaded it for the tail. I used copper wire in the ears, through the head and into the body to add stability and to allow me to move the ears and head as desired. It is put together with a combination of hand and machine stitching. There are 70 pennies in the base to add stability and it is tightly stuffed with fiber fill. Voila! She is quite stable and heavier than anticipated.
I love this!!!

Here is the beautiful Pat Herkal.

Artist Statement

Beads, thread and fabric occupy my head and hands every day. Whimsy and color inspire my work. Mixing beads, shells, stones, and found objects – man made and natural – I create wearables, sculptures and dolls. All are hand sewn one bead at a time. Backing is applied with a beaded edge. The smaller the bead the better. I have fun creating, so when people see my work, I hope it makes them smile. I spend my time creating, traveling, gardening and living an artful life.

Biography

Pat Herkal had a career military father and moved frequently, living on the east coast and in France. With her grandmother’s influence she started creating in fiber when she was 5 years old, embroidering towels, pillowcases and clothing, crocheting rag rugs, and progressed to macrame, weaving, quilting, doll making, pieced clothing, knitting and beading.
