PAINT PARTY FRIDAY 3/25

Hi Everyone!

I am not sure where this week has gone but when I woke up this morning I thought OMG PPF and I have nothing to show. Well kinda..... I posted a few days ago that a dear friend asked me to design a Pot Leaf bead pattern for her. I did and then thought I really need to test the pattern. I pulled out some beads thinking how the heck am I going to do this with lupus hands. I have no feeling in my hands. Hmmm I rubbed some bees wax on my fingers to keep the needle at least in my hold and went for it. Now I use to be a very fast beader, I mean "fast" so when it took me two flippen days to bead a two inch piece I was upset.  I am not one to give up easily though. I spoke to myself saying,  "You have been a bead artist for some 50 years, it is second nature, there is a rhythm to your craft so just do it!" I closed my eyes and began to bead. I of course opened them too ha ha ha..... but it was there, that natural ease of needle picking up a single bead and sewing it in place. That feel of peace in my soul as one row, two rows and then the last row finished.
The satisfaction that lupus doesn't get to win this one.
I already have bead patterns for Pot Leaf Jewelry and now for lighter covers.
Some one all ready asked if I smoke. No I don't, but it is legal here in OR.
Thanks to Eva and Christen for hosting Paint Party Friday

I was touched by your victory in beading, regardless of your "lupus hands." You are not just talented, but very inspirational, my friend. Blessings!

Love the leaf patterns, glad you managed it even if it was hard, and hope you are soon feeling better. I am resting for a few days, as the Rehab took all my energy away! Sending hugs and good vibes, Valerie

I think they are gorgeous. I used to make beads as well when I was a kid but I don't think I would remember how to do it today. It is a real skill.

Gorgeous work. And yes, great to see your determination that your obstacles won't stop you from creating.

Out of curiosity, what brand of bead do you use? Miyuki? And what size? I'm new to beading, but have been enjoying it immensely. I have a loom, but don't use it (read, haven't really worked out how yet), preferring straight stitching (peyote is my current fav).

Happy PPF!

Best wishes,
Liz

Damn that lupus :(

Hope you'll be getting good days!

I smoke and those lighters are so cool, I especially like that with peace-sign, since I'm an aging hippie :D

Have a sunny Easter! In Helsinki it's cloudy and gloomy and the north wind is freezing cold.

Thank you! My fingers are starting to twist a bit. A little niggle of fear has set in that sometime in the future I won't be able to hold a needle or crochet hook. But I can see from this post it can be a case of mind over matter so I'll put the niggle out of mind.
Happy Easter.
xx, Carol

These are so beautiful, Nicole. I especially like the black and pink one.
That's a good tip about rubbing beeswax to hold the needle, I know someone who might find this useful.

Hi Nicole. Sorry about your hands and the pain that goes with it. Love your work. They say that pot helps arthritis and other bone ailments. They also say that you can take the leaves and soak in alcohol and let it sit for a week or so and then use as a rub. I found a cream called Australian Dream that I rub on my knees and elbows and it actually takes the pain away. Even if it's just for a little while or a few hours it does help. Feel better soon. Awesome work. Happy Easter amiga.

Your finished patterns look AWESOME!!! I think you have a market going there. I had to laugh (not at you...just life) when you said how you were a fast beader and now it took you 2 days. That is why I gave up beading. I still get requests from people for moccasins or hair ties, barrettes, regalia items. There is no way. I can't even get the needles threaded. What happened to us??? Yes, I understand lupus very much. Big soft hugs my friend. You are doing a great job and have a lot more courage than me, lol! Hugs & love to you, Rasz

Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing.

Oh my, you made it with beads (and with lupus)! Very nice... and interesting, that's legal in OR.
I've tried to work with beads in my young years too, but I'm to clumsy (it means, I know, how to make).
Happy blessed Easter for you
