PAINT PARTY FRIDAY DEC. 18

Hi Everyone!

Today started another big storm here. Now we get lots of rain and wind on the Oregon coast but lately it has been monstrous, wicked winds. The gusts rattle my house and truly does sound like a roar. So I will post this then get off my PC.
Big thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting Paint Party Friday

I mention a few weeks ago that my learning this winter will be on how to draw and paint hair. I am really aweful at it. Here are my first attempts. Don't laugh..... Oh OK go ahead you can laugh. I laugh at my own self quite often.  Hopefully by next spring I will be able to do "hair"

A quick sketch of a face kind of looking down and then the long and short of it.
I used several different pencils and a gum eraser.

This is an old face I drew some time ago and thought why not put some hair on her. Tried to do curly waves.

Since I have two big shows lined up for next year with my tiles and new sculpts, I try to get at least two small or 1 big one done a week. I did get two finished last week. However it is so dark today I can't get a good shot of both of them. This is a 12x12" tile called "Losing My Path"

Great sketches. I think you have captured great detail in the first one in particular. Happy PPF and seasons greetings to you.

Your very detailed hair is done quite well, I think. And your tile work is most excellent. I didn't understand the title. Is it losing or loosening? I hope your weather improves. It sure sounds scary.

Seems Oregon's bad weather won't stop. We've had a very warm December in SC this year

As everyone says-practice, practice! is what it takes. So keep on drawing the hair. Personally I have never really tried "drawing" hair per se. I'd much rather loosely paint it - much easier:)LOVE your sculptural piece!!

Losing your path looks beautiful. Good luck with the shows when they come up!

Your hair drawings are so much better than mine. It's good to challenge yourself to learn how to do it. You know what they say about practice... and it will be fun to see your progression.
Your piece for the show is wonderful! Great texture. I really like the circles with square tiles as contrast. Happy PPF!

Nicole, I like the shorter hair drawings.......currently I look like the right hand one, yearning for a "mowing" to look like the left.....LOL. The hair is good, remember what you did and practice up. cryptic msg: we did have fun didn't we? Orange-sicle.

I love your authenticity!! I think if you understood how hair grows it might help you draw hair. Maybe look for a youtube video on how hair grows...because it kind of grows in a circle from one side to the other..that's why sometimes hair flips on one side and not the other!! I haven't really explained myself well this has probably just confused you! However check it out!! We have been plagued by wind the last two weeks as well! There were three days where there were massive power outages...luckily we weren't in the mix this time!! Take care!

The hair in that first drawing is really quite good, nothing to laugh about! Hair is difficult but I've found practice can really make a BIG difference. That tile is very interesting. Hope the weather will calm down a bit! Happy PPF!

I don't think there is anything to laugh about. I think the hair on both portraits is great, especially in that first one. Happy Holidays to you and your family, my friend!

I think the hair is great just as it is. Both look very realistic to me. That is what is so wonderful about art. Everyone sees something different.

Your tile piece is beautiful. You are amazing with the variety of work that you do.

I hope that the winds have died down by now. We are just about start ten days of rain; something that I am not looking forward to.
