PAINT PARTY FRIDAY LAST ONE OF AUGUST

Hi Everyone!

 

I hope the week has found you all happy and doing well. I am doing much better right now and being positive that it will stay this way for awhile.  On top of feeling better I had 6 art pieces accepted into an art gallery for their 25th anniversary. I am hoping to get a few more pieces in so I will give you an up date and some photos when everything is set.

I didn't have much time in the studio this week so I thought I would show you a few pieces that I painted over. Even if I don't like a painting I still take a photo of it. So laugh if you must, cry if you can't help yourself, just remember it takes a lot of learning strokes to get to where you want to be.

Sooo swallow, sigh, eeekk here they are.....

The colors on this one I loved. In fact they were even brighter than the photo shows. I don't know why I didn't like this it just felt wrong to me.

 

Speaking of feeling wrong! After I got going on this and new I would paint over it. I just went crazy. Nothing like a red and orange/yellow sky and wild fuchsia weird trees. LOL

Now this one I did like. I took the photo half way done but after adding longer moss and a few other details,  I just felt like it wasn't enough or something was off with it. Plus it was very dark.

 

So there are the three piece I did away with.

HALLOWEEN NEW BEADING PATTERNS

Hi Everyone!

I sure hope all of you had a good weekend. The weather here was like summer, I can't complain about that. It has been awhile since I made any new beading patterns and my favorites are for...... well everyday but with a Halloween charm. So if you are looking for some new patterns take a look at these. You cannot go wrong with bats right? I took the background of one of my paintings and then laid in the bats.  This is a loom pattern but I will have one in Peyote stitch later today.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY MRI

Hi Everyone!

 

I have been taking it easy on the PC allowing my eye to heal. It is soooo much better. I saw the eye doc yesterday. The MRI revealed no abnormalities to my eyes so that is a good thing. However, no reason at all for a spontaneous eyelid bleed. I am so unique Right? LOL

The growths on my brain, which I have had or were discovered in 2000 have grown a bit. This is part of the lupus and is called lupus cerebritis. Yes it is as bad as it sounds with all kinds of neurological problems, especially with balance, (Ha I fall ALL the time) There are some other things that are possible but I refuse those.  Also some microvascular ischemic (mini strokes) At least I am not crazy aaaahhh ha ha ha. Ohh I forgot I am a bit crazy.  I don't want any one feeling sorry for me. I have lived with this for so long now that it is just part of who I am. I deal with each episode as it comes and so far I am the winner. I am happy in my life and that is what matters.

 I do share about lupus and the things that go on with me. Not for pity but to inform. If you share your body with lupus or if you know someone with lupus you might just get a little more insight. If you think you may have symptoms of lupus be sure to visit this site and your doctor

On with the painting!!!! Yeahhhhh

 

 

I started this as a deep and hard colored abstract. It seem so dark and foreboding. Hmm I guess I was showing my feeling colors. :) but I didn't want that so I made crooked windows and  lovely desert stucco  colored  walls. Hmm to clean, too sterile. I got in the shower with the painting and started working the wet canvas. I had so much fun making this!  Wet, paint on me and all over the tub.

It is one I will keep.

INTRODUCING TERESA PUGH

Hi Everyone!

It dawned on me today that in May of 2006 I started writing this blog. I had actually signed up for it a year before that but never really thought I had anything to say or that anyone would read it. Who would ever have thought that something like a blog  would bring so much joy, so many wonderful people into my life. Thank you for 8 amazing years.

 

One of the topics I share with my readers is who is creating what and why. Teresa (Terry) creates wire jewelry  that just pulls me in. There is something grounded in the simple elegance of her pieces.

The feel that they came from a time long ago.

 

Without further ado, in her own words I introduce Teresa (Terry) Pugh

Hello, my name is Teresa Pugh 

I am an eclectic artist/jewelry designer with a love to recycle whenever I can. Taking bits n pieces from broken or discarded treasures is exciting to me. I love taking something ordinary and turning it into something extraordinary. When it comes to color, I’m not shy. The bolder the better. My jewelry is mostly "one of a kind'W but, I am always happy to work with you on requests. Working with wire and stones is very therapeutic and relaxing for me. I am challenged with some health issues so, for now, I create from home and make jewelry when I am able. I am self taught for the most part but, I have invested in many books by some talented artists, as well.  Much love and energy goes into each piece I create. I am currently creating so that I can build an inventory for my Etsy store. I also show my work locally and exhibit in shows and fairs. My goals are to venture out into metal clay, ceramic beads and more metal work. Among making jewelry, some of my other interests and hobbies are, acrylics, watercolor, photography, crochet, sculpture, music and animals.

PPF ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM DEFINED

Hi Everyone!

 

Thank you all so very much for the emails and comments for my healing. Mike has been reading them to me. I have been trying to stay off the PC as to not upset my eye. One good thing is that the black, blue and yellow are just about gone.

As most of you know this year I am learning and trying to paint abstractly. LOL is that a word? You get my meaning. I did this because I am soooooo Asymmetrical that it is scary. I figured that I could create abstract to loosen up a bit. At first it was a fight. Then, I did some reading on the history of abstract art. Many think you just stand back and throw paint on a canvas, and some people do just that. However, there is a method, a beginning a middle and an end to an abstract piece. There is opposites such as movement and stillness, objects and non object, depth and shallowness, and with all of this there is color. But there is even more..... there is EMOTION.  I know that paintings and art in general are suppose to evoke emotion but I believe that abstract can pull at every heartstring. Can fill us so that a mere stroke of a paint brush can bring a tear from what ever we are feeling. 

 I have been reading about the abstract artists of more than a century ago to present, and it is the artists of the 1940/50s that bring me home.

 

"Abstract Expressionism developed in America in 1940s and 1950s. The name evokes their aim which was to make abstract art that was also expressive or emotional in its effect. They were inspired by the Surrealist idea that art should come from the unconscious mind. The Abstract Expressionists were mostly based in New York City, and also became known as the New York School."

MRI TOMORROW HURRAAAYY

Hi Everyone!

 

I just want to thank all of you who have sent the good energy for an earlier MRI. I am going in tomorrow. Ohhh what fun. I have had so many of them that once they wrap me in those awesome warm blankets I pretty much am in dream land. If you have never had an MRI it is LOUD! Like metal banging and then deep drum like slams, at one point the bangs are short and quick. A long time ago, during an MRI, I thought the sounds were like Aboriginal music. I can take the sounds and associate them with drums, a didgeridoo, the clapping of musical spoons and the rubbing of a wash board. It is a game so I don't open my eyes to see that the tube of the MRI machine is almost touching my face. It is a game so I don't freak out in the tube. LOL

Wish our  hospital could afford the newer open MRI scanner.

 

So now you see why I try to take myself somewhere else while the tech is taking images of my brain. I will admit I am a bit nervous for the results of this scan.

SPONTANEOUS BLACK EYE REALLY

Hi Everyone!

 

For my readers who don't FB I posted this earlier. This is just so crazy!!! thanks again lupus.

Also seems like there is a rush on MRIs and I can't get in until the 12th I am on the list for cancelations so please pray for an opening so I can get in sooner. Thank you.

 

Friday afternoon I was stopped in my tracks by some enormous pressure in my head. It only lasted about 10 or 15 seconds but it was enough to make stop.
When it was gone I didn'...t think about it again until yesterday.
Friday night at about 10:30 I was trying to watch TV and noticed my eye was dropping more than normal. (I have ptosis in my left eye, part of why I stay away from the camera LOL) So I check it out an my top eyelid is red and swollen. I soak a bag of black tea and place it on my eye for a few minutes. Saturday morning I have a "bleed" in my eyelid. I watch it track all day and Sunday as well. It doesn't hurt or itch. I just have a black eye. Like someone punched me. I get into my doctor on Monday. He is perplexed. Takes photos of my eye and sends them off to another doctor. He tells me if it gets worse to call. Well it got worse. I was sent to my ophthalmologist as an emergency on Tuesday. My eye ball is healthy but he is not happy about the spontaneous black eye. Then I remember the pressure in my head. I am now going for an MRI on my brain and "orbits" plus he has me set up for a huge amount of blood work.
It would be nice to have normal things go wrong. Well it would be nice to have nothing go wrong. Would love to get rid of lupus and all it brings with it. Just to be healthy again. gggeeesss

ARTIST FROM AROUND THE WORLD BLOG HOP!

It is my turn! Yeaaahhh... thanks to the very talented artist Kirstin McCulloch from

LilliBean Designs I have been invited to share some facts about myself and some of my art.

There are 4 questions to answer so here goes;

#1. Why do I do what I do?

Hmmm that is a loaded question LOL however, when it refers to art the answer is simple. "I MUST CREATE" I have been surrounded by art since birth and so it is... just natural.  My grandmother was an accomplished oil painter, teacher, and art gallery owner. So sitting at an easel painting still life is a very early memory. It was a few years later that my great grandmother and my adopted mother who taught me the beginnings of beading, how to tan my own hides, and create with leather and animal parts. That is a Native tradition and one should only use animal and other natural items to honor those creatures. Not because it is "cool" and the "in" thing.  For about the next 50 years I would make a living in part and in full from selling, teaching, writing, designing, and developing art supplies for the Beading World. Over the last few years lupus has made it too difficult to use my hands to bead so I have had to step down from the medium. Sad for me but it re-opened the door to painting. I am still able to work with leather and other Native art and I will make new avenues for that as I go.

#2 How does my work differ from others of its genre?
 

Now that I am painting I am not sure what my jenre is. I am exploring abstract art this year. It is an art form that is more difficult than you think. Along with that I started painted landscapes and have found I enjoy that as much as anything. I have for many years added my sculpted leather to acrylic painted canvases so I guess that could be abstract. The bottom line is I don't know the rules of painting and I like that, A LOT. I am very dyslexic so if you put a rule in my path I am just gong to run over it anyway. I paint like I beaded. A sliver of an idea in my head and then just go for it! So maybe that is the difference?

#3 How does my creative process work

As mentioned above I get and idea and create it. Being dyslexic I am very visual. So I can "see" what I want to make, paint, draw, sew, and then I just create it! If I do plan something it never works out for me. I just have to be free in my art.  I see art everywhere. The same with beading. It is as breathing, it is just a natural thing for me. Is all my art good.... aaawwww I would like to think so but I do know when something is NOT good or not right. With painting making changes is easy and I like that part of the process. I draw when we take road trips, thus "car art" just drawings of crazy weird things.

This guy came while we were in a very wooded area. Just a big nose funny guy.

#4 What am I working on now

I am working on three things right now as I write this. I have leather soaking ready to sculpt, I have a 16x 20" painting on the easel, and I am native stitching two pieces of leather together to cover a molded face for a client. That will be embellished with Native jingles, beads and feathers.

 

This is the last bead art show where I was a vender. NONE of the paintings on the wall are mine.
Except the beaded wolf and dragon. Both created in the Huichol style of beading. The dragon is 5 feet high.

To finish. I feel very blessed to have spent my life creating in all types of art. Part of that blessing is meeting all the wonderful people, who create and live art as well.

I'M SO PROUD OF MY MARINE

Hi Everyone!

 

As my regular ready know I have a military family. My S-I-L Dax, was promoted and pinned on Friday. He is now a Gunnery Sargent with the US Marines. I could not be prouder.

I just hope he can stay state side.
