WEEKEND BOOK REVIEW

Hi Everyone!
It is Saturday.... again.... I do like the weekends. I feel like I can do what ever I want and not have to go to town. Today I am beading a birthday gift for my brother, Steve, and finishing up some clay work. It is still very stormy here so I thought I would share another Lark Book with you. I had a lot of fun reading this book.

Bead Riffs
By Rachel Nelson-Smith
ISBN 978-1-60059-783-1
Lark Jewelry and Beading
Lark Crafts An Imprint of Sterling Publishing Co. Inc

Did you know that Rachel Nelson-Smith is not only an accomplished beader she is also a Jazz singer. I think the two marry well. Rachel’s work is jazzy and full of life. In her new book, Bead Riffs, there are 127 pages of excitement. Rachel’s humor comes through in this book as well. I like being able to connect the artist behind the art and Rachel allows us to do that. She makes learning her techniques fun and carries it over to each of the 23 step by step projects. Her combinations of Right Angle Weave, (RAW), and Peyote bring a fresh style to the beading world, such as her “bump” technique. Beaded tabs are very popular right now and Rachel shows you how to make and incorporate them into jewelry. The gallery of work by 15 artists will amaze and delight you. Pieces were chosen to carry the color and joy through the book. As in all of Lark Books the photography is excellent and truly shows off all the beading. Once you have learned the techniques you will be able to create with new vision. Making your own designs that are bright, fun, and vibrant. I highly recommend this book.

Beautiful book! I like knowing a little more about the artist behind the art, too!

Hope you get some relief from the storms soon.
