Hi Everyone!
There won't be many Saturday Garden days. While I was sick in bed, Mr. M. started breaking down the garden. Today I was able to wash 5 gallon buckets to put away. It breaks my heart that, for now, my garden days are over.
Last year this area was filled with string beans, cucumbers and herbs. Onions are drying on the side. I had so many cucumbers last years that I canned dozens of pints of dill, sweet and bread n butter pickles. Also 50 pints of relishes.
Now, it's all gone. We will get the palettes up and either stored away or off to the dump.
It's going to be difficult to purchase from the store squash, onions, peas, beans, and everything else I have grown for many years.
All of this just doesn't taste the same from the grocery store.
However, my Italian Oregano will go on the deck
and Peppermint. I removed all of the branches and in a week this Peppermint will be taking over the pot again.
Some of you may remember that we had an old outbuilding here. I called it the barn.
It had to be removed.
It had to be removed.
The space that remains we let go wild. Mr. M. has planted a few things from the garden and we have a lot of flower seeds all around. I will put up the sprinkler to see what happens this year.
I guess that's it for now.
Wishing all of you a very nice Saturday.
Nicole

Looking good. I do like growning my own edibles :-D Hope your weekend is going well :-D
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that you have had to give up the garden. I know you enjoyed the harvests from it.
ReplyDeleteSadly, vegetable gardening comes to an end for all of us at some point.
ReplyDelete...Nicole, this is sad news!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful cucumber. Congrats on your garden, Nicole.
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad that a master gardener such as yourself will have no garden anymore. I feel bad for you but I know your health must come first.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, you shall have some flowers. /AC (who can’t sign in for some reason)
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself. I hope there is a good farmers market nearby, where you can find fresh and local, and support those who work so hard to grow the good stuff (you know how much work it is.) This morning I bought the first local asparagus and strawberries of the season.
ReplyDeleteThis such a sad post. I understand though. Stay strong. I dread the day when I can't garden any longer. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Nicole.
ReplyDeleteChange is challenging, but good.
ReplyDeletePrayers for your health
ReplyDeleteSad to see a garden go. Herbs in containers can help sooth the need for plants.
I down sized my deck gardening years ago. Now the herb containers give me a lot of joy.

I'm so sorry. I'm glad you'll be able to have some of them on the deck.
ReplyDeleteAnd your gardening days are over because? I thought you were doing okay. So sorry ... I know there is a big difference between home grown and store bought not to even mention the cost. I hope you reach a point that will allow you to plant a garden again ... or maybe Mr. M could become a gardener. More surprising things have happened🤣 I wish you well no matter what ....

It is sad that a gardener like you will no longer garden.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry but the important thing is your health.
I wonder if you have a farmers market near to you where you may be able to get some nice fresh vegetables?
All the best Jan
Oh. That is very, very, very sad, dear Nicole. Don´t know what else to say...
ReplyDeleteSending good vibes your way, as I know this must be hard for you.
ReplyDeleteNicole, I went astray for a bit as well, but checked into blogs today and found it missing the usual gardening posts for this time of year. I hope you are OK and on the mend!

Dear Nicole, I completely understand you, this is very difficult.
ReplyDeleteI also used to help my mom in the garden but due to my husband's health problems, we are often in hospitals, I can't help her anymore, without my help she probably has to give up gardening!
At most she can plant some tomatoes...
Nicole you certainly did have some wonderful looking tasty vegetables but comes a time when it can't be done. We had to do the same and of course bought farm fresh from the grocer is not the same or as tasty as growing your own as you have written.
ReplyDeleteYou have good memories of your garden :)
I'm so sorry about your garden. Perhaps you could do something in large pots -- not a lot, just a few smaller things that wouldn't be too challenging right now. Sometimes we just have to go with it, hard as it may be.
