As we leave Florence we cross one of the many bridges on the coast. It dose open to allow ships to go through. |
A short way up the road is this over pass bridge. I tried to find out the history of it but no go. |
Hwy 101 coast road is a much better drive than going to Eugene. |
Of course you can never get away from road work. |
This was to clear brush and tree limbs. We don't want any fires here. A very large portion of Or. is on fire. |
There are all these little communities that have no names, and fall under the same zip code as Florence. |
The main thing here is the ATV rental, the pot shop and a convenience store. |
Then off we go into the marine layer. |
About 12 miles we come to the town of Gardiner, that actually has a rich history. POP 248. A log and paper mill were here from 1963 to 1999. In 2006 the buildings were demolished. |
Across the road is, of course water. In 1954 a plywood plant was established. Gardiner was formerly the site of the first international paper mill on the west cost. |
Coming out of Gardiner, we hit the Smith River. (More WATER!) The building in the distance is a ship repair place. |
It use to be a bridge building company. It closed around COVID. Then reopened as Fred Wahl Marine Construction.
|
Behind the trees are big ships. Come winter I can see all the way in. I love the big ships. |
I borrowed this photo from their FB page. I would so love to work there, and NOT as the receptionist. LOL |
This is it for now. Next time we will head on in to Reedsport and then to Coos Bay.
