T Stands for Onions

 Hi Everyone!

Today I'm joining Bleubeard and Elizabeth for their weekly T-Party. Be sure to stop by to see what everyone is doing.

For me, it feels like I am stuck in time or at least in slow motion. I want this month to be over with so I can get into my yard. The rain is non stop, which is fine, but the rain should have been last month. I should be in my garden already. In stead my seedlings are growing in my art room. They seem to be doing fine but another 3 weeks of rain before we get a dry day. Here's how they are doing.

They all look healthy but do need to be in garden containers outside.
I also got onions today from
Dixondale Farms. A bunch of 75 and 3 different varieties. I live in an area for long day onions and I was happy to get this bunch. If you want the best onions starters check them out.  I so hope my onions grow to look like these.

Here is a map to tell you what type of onions to grow for your area.

The hours of sunlight is what is needed for the onions to bulb in the different regions. So one must purchase certain types of onion. Dixondale Farms has all of the onions you will need. Prices are great and shipping is fast. Ohhh and shipping is free.
I wasn't planning on doing an onion commercial. LOL
Mr. M. has to bring down is A1C. Sooooo no more baked goods for us. I made lemon curd for him with an artifical sugar. YUCK as far as I'm concerned but Mr. M. was happy with it. I found that it didn't make as big of a batch and it started to curdle with in a few minutes even though I was stirring constantly. I had to take it off the heat and stir it like crazy to make it right.
The little lumps you see are lemon zest.

Now to get into the party I have to show a drink. I have been drining water, water and more water.
Another photo from google.
I would love to have one of these pots.

I do hope that all of you are well.

Nicole

Hi Nicole, we are very cold here with rain too and the grass is growing which I am not ready for since I can't work outdoors either. we used to grow all of our own onions too-so good. Your plants are growing well , I will start more seeds soon once we get out of the low 20's at night-I like the "greenhouse gallon jugs" they work really well for me
I use splenda to replace white sugar for Larry which I like better for the taste over keto sweeteners-although I do use keto brown sweeteners in some things. Happy T

An onion commercial, LOL! Well I just had made onion cake.
Hope the rain stops soon and you can bring all the beauties outside! Here it warmed up and I see that long-missed yellow thing in the sky.
Have a nice hot-water-T-Day!

I can see why rain day after day tends to get you down a little and I will never think of onions the same way again!

I did not know that about onions. Your seedlings are looking really good. :)

Your garden start is looking wonderful and I loved the onion details. I think I might plant some if I can get hubby to agree (he hates onions). We have 10 acres but a postage stamp garden - I can't even explain how crazy that is. Good for you drinking lots of water - I have too. Happy T-day and hugz to you, Nicole.

I am planning to grow Egyptian walking onions. A frend has offered me some root bulbs. Growing from root stock on those allow you to harvest greens the first year. They are am interesting green onion.

That's interesting about onions and the length of day. I'm not a gardener, so it's an unfamiliar topic. I hope your weather improves fast, and you can get your seedlings into their summer residence!

I found your onion info very interesting. I didn't know about the daylight length and it's effect. I'm going to keep that in mind when I plant my onions this year. And I know what you mean about artificial sweetner, although I do sometimes use it in baked goods as my husband's on diabetic medicine. With him having a donated kidney he really needs to keep his sugar level low so he doesn't end up back on dialysis. I'm getting a ton of snow today-grrrr-so I can also related to your rain and the garden too. I bought some seeds for greens to use in my cold frame but who knows when I will get that out in the garden. I can't even get to mine now with the snowbanks. Ugh. Have a super T day. hugs-Erika

Gardeners! You're all the same -- so impatient!

Yep, I guess because there is nothing like growing your own food.

I think we're all beginning to feel that way about the season. At least it is staying light longer in the day and that's a boost for me!

Your plants are beautiful! I hope your rain will let up soon.

Onions. They make me think of my neighbor, Prissy. When we first moved here, Prissy and her husband had a big garden. She showed me how she planted her onions. Thanks for the happy memory. I miss Prissy. It's snowing today and at the rate things are going it probably won't be until July that Himself can get out to his garden. Happy T and Pi Day

I had no idea about the daylight different onions need. Well, I don't grow them, so I probably don't need to know, but I'm glad I do now. I hope yours will turn out the way you want to. We have a lot of rain here as well which is still welcome, but I also want to get out in the garden and work there. I can't when the ground is all wet, but I really want to get to those weeds.

Hi Nicole!!! The weather must be so frustrating! It is here too but for the opposite reason... NO RAIN!!! We've had warm days ... but by the end of the week we have a cold front coming through.. thankfully cold but not freezing!!! Still no raised bed for this year.. but some things are getting done.. Sidewalk, porch, fencing.. so i really can't (or shouldn't) complain!! Plants will come... Take good care and Happy T day! Hugs! deb

We are supposed to get cold and stay in the deep freeze from Thursday on until the end of the month. Not encouraging for a person who doesn't like to turn on my heat. Your plants are looking good, though. Nice to know about the onions and how their growth depends on the amount of light they get. I buy my sets from a local feed and seed store, so I'm sure they take that into account when they buy their bulbs.

Sorry to read about your husband and I know what you mean about artificial anything. Thanks for sharing your awesome plants, your story about the onions, and that amazing coffee pot with us for T this Tuesday, dear Nicole. See you Thursday evening.

Your starters look great! I can imagine that you are excited to get in the garden. It will be here very soon.
I know what you mean about the artificial sweeteners. I use coconut sugar since it has a low glycemic index, safe for diabetics. I can't tolerate sugar alcohols and they taste awful when cooked. I hope you find something you like as a substitute.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate

Our favorite onions here are red, and green onions. Happy T Day,

Dear Nicole, your many plants remind me that we should finally start planting something in our garden - e.g. onions, then moving the strawberries from one bed to another, maybe a few early salads. But when the weather has been okay here, we haven't had time so far and when we have had time, it has been rainy (less often) or stormy (more often).
All the best and happy (belated) T-Day - Traude 😘

Your plants are doing great! We're getting rain but are in a few days of no rain. I may go somewhere this afternoon.

We had a dry February but now we seem to be getting more than a fair share of rain. I hope you can get in your garden soon. Sorry to hear about hubby's sugar levels going high. I really hate sweeteners so made the decision to either go without jam on my toast or choose full sugar jams but with a stronger flavour - raspberry and blackcurrant work well and I'm happier to have a lot less on my toast. I've also found that pine or forest honey has a strong flavour so much less of that is needed too. I also eat greens (mostly brocoli, Brussels Sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower etc. with my main meal of the day My sugar levels are mostly steady under the recommended level at the moment! Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
