Friday Face OFF 12/2/22

 Greetings!

Happy December and Friday Face OFF.
Before I get started, I will be posting FFO on Thursday nights. I hope this will help my East Coast participants.
I have been very busy in the art room working on several projects at a time. When I do this it's because things need time to dry. So..... during a drying time I started going through art drawers. I came across a carved pipe head that I made quite a few years ago. Why not make a smoking pipe? This is NOT the traditional Native pipe I normally make.
It is also my face for FFO.
click on photos to see larger.
One of my clay faces draped in fur.

 Smoking pipe.

 Soapstone pipe head.

 Close up of carving.

This is a one piece cedar pipe blank. I don't like the wooden mouth piece so I saw it off.

You can see how small the drill hole is to try to get smoke through.

I make it larger with this very long drill bit.

I use hair pipe bone for the mouth piece and connectors. This is a 1" coffee dyed.

It is glued into place. About 1/2".

I did drill the hair pipe to make the flow better.

I use the same technique to attach the pipe head.

This is a 1" hair pipe bone bead that I carved down in the middle so it is straight.

This fits perfectly into the pipe head and the pipe blank. Both ends much be air tight.

It's all together. Now to dress it.

I would normally carve a space for the crystal but I just wrapped it. Maybe later I will remove the leather and do that.

 This pipe measures 15" long.

I haven't made a pipe in a long time and this was fun. When I finished my other projects were dry. :)
Update; yes, this pipe can be smoked.
Now for the featured artist.
This week is #5,
Monica from NatureFootstep.

I have to tell you, that I am so glad the number generator makes the pick. I would put all of you as the featured artist. I am overwhelmed at the faces all of you are showing on FFO. Thank you.

hmmmm I don't have any extra faces to show so guess what? A second featured artist.

This second pick is Sirrkis a digital artist.

I will be linking up with Gillena

Now it's your turn to show  your face. Any kind of face in any medium. Link back to me from your blog and link here with M. Linky.
That's it for now.

That pipe is great! I will not show this to Hubby, otherwise he wants to have it! (He has more than enough objects from other cultures already).
To a happy Friday!

Wish I had known you are posting early, I stayed up till 2 and was surprised at how many had already linked. I am barely awake because I have to be out the door at 8 today.

Hi Nicole. Nice to be featured :) You have already seen my face post today. But your friends might not have that :) I like the old Native pipes. I have one but not as fancy as yours. :)

I think the face on my latest post should be the inspiration for your next carving, Nicole! That should be a challenge you can't resist!

Is the pipe actually useable? Would someone use it or is it just and art piece?

Hi! I love that you make pipes. Same here when stuff is drying, then I go to work on something else. I'm currently waiting for my new table top bench to finish curing. So fun. Happy Friday. Cheers, Ivy.

Happiest December to you! I'm always amazed (and a bit jealous) by your ability to sculpt and carve... I bet one would enjoyed getting lost in your studio for an hour or three.
