Hi Everyone!
First thank you for all the wonderful emails, and comments of well wishes for my health. Uhhgg, it has been an extremely rough week.
However, that's not what we are here for.
This is Friday Face Off!
Please take a moment to look at the rules at the bottom of the page. Thanks!
So here is my entry for this week. As some of you know I have been drawing faces for about 5 years.
My first faces were pretty horrid. LOL
I show you my faces that are good, not so good and just plane "horrid" LOL It's therapy for me, most of my art is. So if I show something that is not quite right, it's OK. Art is a process, a learning of techniques, motions, and how to put your own stamp on it. I enjoy drawing faces more than the rest of the art I create. Am I good at? Maybe, sometimes. The question should be for an artist is, did you love making it, does it make you happy when it's finished.
OK, that's two questions. What I'm trying to say is, don't allow anyone to criticize your art with malice. If it happens put a stop to it immediately and know that what your create is yours.
Here are some faces around my house.
Mr. M. designed and manufactured these looms for 30 years. This is my bead pattern and my beading.

Got this on a trip to Puerto Vallarta.
|
This is a Huichol piece I did some 35 years ago.
|
The beading is done on bone and the eye is stone.
|
More Huichol beading.
|
A bit more traditional done on wood.

My baby witch that hangs in my art room

Polymer clay pin. I made this about 15 years ago.

Hello Nicole, how wonderful to see that you are able to post again! I wish you are well and enjoy the day xx
Your art is gorgeous as always. Thank you for sharing also your earlier made art.
I'm going to shopping and return to comment others later.
Beautiful work. I love the girl´s face and expecially the beaded sun.
We all have different taste in what we like. I can think something is really well done, even if I don´t like that kind of art. :)
Gee, Nicole, I don't even have a face to offer this week, since my latest post is a book review, so I'll not link in. It always seems to me that you are very creative and you rightly point out that criticism with malice is never warranted. Too bad the people who indulge in it don't have better ways to occupy their time. Hope you are feeling at least somewhat better. David
...you sure have a bunch of faces today, I have one!
Oh! They are ALL wonderful - I wonder where you hid the "horrid" ones?
You are right - main thing is we have fun creating.
Hope you are really doing better, health-wise?
Sorry to hear you've been having such a tough week again Nicole. I hope things improve for you ASAP. And you have some great art faces around your house. I love having things that inspire me. And you are SO RIGHT about not letting people put down your art. We probably all get those voices in our head that sometimes stop us cold in our art tracks, and those are bad enough, so why let anyone else do that to you either. Thanks so much for spotlighting me this week. It's much appreciated. Take care. hugs-Erika
Wow some fantastic faces.
Have a nice weekend Nicole
much💚love
I love the tile from Puerto Vallarta. The stone eye is perfect for that Huichol piece. I can't begin to imagine beading a face/skull on a loom, that looks amazing.
Love the face you drew for this week! Your Huichol beadwork is also magnificent! Glad you're feeling a bit better now too.
First, I'm so happy that you are feeling better, Nicole, and I am very sorry that you had such a rough week. Second, I completely agree with what you said - not if a piece of art is "good" or "bad" (who determines that anyway?), but how the art felt about it when s/he created it, does it make her/him happy etc. I enjoy the process of creating art, and I know that I have created some pretty "horrid" pieces as well. That is the process and how we learn. Thank you for your words, I needed to hear that.
I love the soul you put into your faces. They speak to me.
Sis, the Huichol beading is gorgeous!! I love your little baby witch too! The drawing of the face...her lips and mouth remind me of the actress Julianne Moore. Well done! I hope you feel better soon! ♥♥
I'm glad you're back and hope that means you're getting some relief.
Seeing your images makes me realize how few of the art pieces I have on walls include faces -except for framed photos, of course.
I like seeing your work. Thank you for helping me face the weekend
Great work, Nicole! I love the face of this week. I always enjoy watching your artworks.
Sorry to hear there's the drought also in some USA countries (mainly South). I have heard that a significant number of farmers are forced to sell their livestock because the situation has become so critical.
We take refuge in God's will!
Art is therapy (for me as well). Aren't we lucky? And part of that luck is remembering your advice, we can never let anyone make our art feel less than the miracle it is.
So glad you are back. Hope your health stops misbehaving.
I agree with you about not taking negative criticism. I had a freind who sold her work and exhibited in galleries. Unfortunately she was also an art snob and made me feel really awful about my art. So I have to tell you I dropped her as a friend. Her unkindness was not necessary. But to move on!- Your faces are good! And your bead work is incredible.
Beautiful faces!

Very nice portrait !
Dear Nicole,
I really like what you wrote about an artist's attitude towards his or her work: Does it make me happy? I'm almost always like a kid totally immersed in what I'm doing while I'm painting or editing photos and making collages or writing, and I don't think it could be a much happier state. It depends on whether I'm happy with the result. Sometimes yes sometimes no. But if I'm not satisfied, I usually just keep going until I say, now it's okay.
All the best and happy weekend!

I had to stop by even though I'm not joining FFO this week. Simply no time, although I had hoped to have a tag made, which didn't happen. I love the drawing of the child. You have some incredible faces. No one should criticize anyone else's art unless they are an art critic being paid to do so.
So sorry that you have had a rough week, sending my good wishes.
All the best Jan
PS I like your drawing.
