TAD and the theme is by the fire

 Hi Everyone!

Today is TAD over at Rain's and her theme this week is, "By the fire." In my lifetime I have made campfires and enjoyed the warmth and visual of them thousands of times. Most of you know that in my younger days I live totally remote for 3 years. Fire was the only source of means. It was in the days before digital cameras and cell phones. So, no instant photos. I will say that a campfire is one of the best things to experience. Here are a few photos found on google.

fire in the woods

fire by a lake

fire by the sea

Nothing like marshmallows over the fire.
All though we never had any when we lived remote.

Fire in a snow camp is the best of all.

I baked lots of bread over a campfire and in a ground oven. I miss those days.

I made lots of clay faces and pieces for spirit dolls yesterday. These will be dry in a few days.

Finished painting the next 2 faces.

I don't have any photos of food this week. I am going to make some potato corn chowder today and I will make sure to get photos. My daughter gave me a recipe for homemade cream of corn. We will see how it works.

Wishing all of you a great day!

It's been soooo long since I had a campfire! The chiminea is something nice, yes, but there's nothing like an actual campfire.

There's nothing like the aroma of a camp fire and looking into the flames, watching the sparks and tongues of fire!

Nicole,

I love outdoor fires! When DH's parents were still living and our children were small, we'd love to go back for frequent visits. At those times, we'd build a small campfire to roast wieners and marshmallows over, then just sit by the fire until late at night. It was so relaxing. We have many good memories from those days.

Your experiences living outdoors by campfire light and warmth are very intriguing, and I hope you will tell us more aobut them some day.

I wasn't aware that you lived remotely for 3 years. I'm impressed. Nowadays, more and more people are wanting to live 'off the grid'.

Great campfire pics! Campfires are the best! Although there was one I remember that was not so great. I was pregnant with my youngest son so it was over 20 years ago. We were camping in Wyoming for July 4th celebrations, and one of our friends decided to gather up all the rubbish left over from the fireworks. He threw it onto the campfire and, next minute, some live fireworks started shooting out in all directions. Everyone literally jumped from their seats and ran in all directions. When we returned after it stopped, there was a big hole burned through the chair I had been sitting in. We laugh when we talk about it now but someone could have been injured. We were very lucky.

Your spirit dolls faces look great...the round one is my favourite.

I'm sure your potato corn chowder turned out lovely.

Enjoy the rest of your week,
Serena x

Boa tarde Nicole. Acho nunca vi uma matéria tão interessante sobre fogo. Parabéns pelo seu trabalho de artesanato. Pensei logo no formato de um chaveiro para minha coleção.

I'm with you about campfires. They are a great place to relax next too, unless of course it is a winter fire, then you need it for warmth. Great faces too Nicole. Your faces have so much personality!

When we travelled Australia we had many a fire, too.
(By golly, we were so dumb the first time and collected wood with bare hands - no spider got us, phew!).
We always threw in potatoes, had butter and salt with that and who knows how much coal we ate with that, LOL.
Beautiful, yummy memories. Thank you!

Cool faces!

Good luck with your baking :-)

love the campfires. Especially the one in the snow. Sadly I have not enjoyed many of them during my life. :(
You created some beautiful clay faces. Love how you painted them.
