HEEELLLOOO Everyone!
We had a great day yesterday at the Butterfly Pavilion. Not many tourists on the road and only a few locals, and to my delight, masks are required. It's actually called the

It was a beautiful, hot day with no wind. Well it's inland so no wind. LOL
We learned a lot about why there are no Monarch butterflies on the West Cost. The California fires from last year made the migration impossible. The fires this year will do the same. As Monarchs are an endangered spices, the West coast Monarch may become distinct. Since they order chrysalis of other types of butterflies, I asked if they could order from the East Coast. The answer was no. Each area has it's own diseases and introducing them to the West would be disastrous.
So there were no butterflies to see yesterday. In the center there is a gift shop, a window eatery, the Umpqua Fort and a place to buy fresh produce. Mr. M. and I walked the entire grounds. It was so peaceful and just the kind of day we needed. Now there are all kinds of activities at the center, we just happened to be there on a quiet day.
The photos are not in order and if you click on them you can read the info signs.
Inside the butterfly area. These girls were so much fun to speak with. |
These chrysalis will hatch in about a week. |

I bought these squashes. I can't grow these.
It was so nice to get out.
Have a great day everyone!

...it looks like you had a fabulous day!
Shame about the Monarchs 😢
Glad you had a nice day out Nicole. It looks like an interesting place.
Glad you had fun at the pavilion! The name of those squashes escapes me at the moment.
So sad about the monarchs!
Looks like a wonderful day, though. :)
I didn't know about the fires and the monarchs. I hope they make it. Looks like you had a fun day out, and some beautiful weather too!
Sounds like a very interesting day out, glad you enjoyed it. Valerie
You really need some rain there. I shudder to think what a few errant sparks could do.
This is very clever fun!
Fico feliz que o seu dia foi muito bom e especial. Grande abraço carioca para minha amiga Nicole.
I haven't seen any monarchs in Kansas, either. I planted extra dill for the swallowtails and only found ONE caterpillar on my dill this year. It ate a ton, but left most of it for me. I am glad you had an enjoyable and informative time. It looked like a beautiful area and Fort, too. Thanks for taking us along, dear Nicole.
Oh so cool, Nicole! 🙂
What an adventure! 💚
What a tragedy about the monarchs :( This looks like a fun outing.
