Movie Monday

Happy Monday Everyone!

Today is Movie Monday. My daughter and I were talking about the movie "Red Dawn" with Patrick Swayze.
There was a remake of this movie in 2012, but you just can't replace Patrick and the rest of the cast from 1984.
In an alternate 1980s, the United States stands alone as communism grows stronger. When Soviet soldiers invade a small Colorado town, brothers Jed (Patrick Swayze) and Matt Eckert (Charlie Sheen) escape with friends to the forest. With their father, Tom (Harry Dean Stanton), a prisoner of the invading army, the children decide to fight against the Soviets. As the country comes under increasing attack, the group teams up with Lt. Col. Andrew Tanner (Powers Boothe) to take back their town.
I own this movie but it can be seen on most streaming venues.

Another movie, that I own but can be seen on some streaming venues is, "Orphan".
Filmed in 2009 and a true story based on the life of
Barbora Skrlová, a woman who was discovered posing as a 13-year-old boy in Norway after she had escaped from another family. Devastated by the loss of their unborn baby, Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard) decide to adopt a child. At the orphanage, both feel drawn to a little girl (Isabelle Fuhrman) named Esther, and soon the couple take their new daughter home. But when a dangerous series of events unfolds, Kate begins to suspect that there is something evil lurking behind the child's angelic exterior.

Well that is it for today. Enjoy your Monday.

Didn't see the original or the remake of Red Dawn... Just wasn't that interested, I guess. 🙂

I have heard of Orphan before, I remember the movie poster as well. Creepy. I don
t remember watching it, though. I never knew it was based on a true story, though. And you literally explained the shocking situation in the first line. It's actually a woman posing as a boy? 😏 That just couldn't have been invented. So weird that it had to happen in real life so someone would pick it up in a film. 🤷‍♂️

Two edge-of-seat movies. Kids and I loved Red Dawn in 1984. Will look for Orphan. Thanks again. I watched Netflix foreign film "I am ALL GIRLS" about human trafficking. Heart breaking. 500,000 to 700,000 women and girls are stolen every year and only 1% are ever found.

I seem to remember having seen the original Red Dawn... Orphan sounds intriguing. It reminds me of the idea behind the movie The Bad Seed. Thanks for highlighting these :)

I remember Red Dawn! Didn't see the remake, though.

The other one sounds too much like a horror movie to me and not up to that right now--LOL! Heavily into murder mysteries, though. Especially British ones. :)

I've never heard of either of these two films, but I was appalled by The Orphan. Really a very sad tale. Thanks for sharing them, though, dear Nicole.

Red Dawn is so 80s in the way the story works lol havent seen the new one yet, might pass though since there are better things to watch

Nicole,

We've seen both versions of "Red Dawn". I much prefer the original, as well. The second film I wouldn't like because I hate it when a movie makes a child creepy. That's not the way I like to see a child portrayed. Thanks for sharing your movie review!
