Hi Everyone!
This is Thursdays Art Date with Rain. Her theme this week is portraits.
Now if you have been with me for any length of time you know that my practice is portraits or as I call them faces. LOL
I am going to do something that, a few weeks ago,
I said I wasn't going to do.
Show some of my first drawings.
However, I am gong to swallow my pride and just do it.
Besides I did show these a few years ago.
Here they are. My faces are like most who start drawing.
Flat, dark lines, bad shading. You can laugh, these are just
horrendous. At the time I knew they were not good but
I remembered what my artist grandmother said,
"Practice make perfect".
Well I am not perfect but I am getting better.

I thought of you and Valerie when I saw this theme. You have certainly come a long way since you started. You are far better at these than I would ever be. Even your very first ones are better than anything I could ever draw. You do good, dear. These are perfect for TAD.
They are all as beautiful as each other Nicole and when shared there is a certain amount of release don't you think? I have always loved to draw faces, just struggle with my own. The more you draw the loser the hand and it's as if by magic it learns how to recall and retrace those basic steps to get portion control in hand. I'm glad you shared every single one of them, you are much braver than I and time is never on my side.

You definitely are a portrait artist. I loved seeing where you once were and where you are now with your art. I need to devote more time to trying to capture realism in people's faces but I keep putting it off always finding other things to steal my attention. Perhaps in the new year I'll make the time. Thanks for sharing. Fabulous job! :)

WOW. Actually there is nothing much to add but that. Great progress! I don´t think I could do that ever.
Weeks ago I got my very old "Grafo" out and maybe start with that... But just with a Henry.
I love them all. You have gotten better at controling the pencil and making it behave, but you were always good at showing emotion-to me, that's where real art is born. I envy that because I don't have it.
I think they are wonderful!
I am more of a landscape artist.
I do have a couple of portrait type paintings but I think that I should stay with landscapes :)

Well, your embarrassment is not warranted as all of your portraits showed promise then evolved into excellence. And that you enjoy drawing faces is very clear and all of that "practice makes perfect" has worked well for you. I completely get your being busy with Christmas as I am struggling to get mine under control. Hope you get it done and have a lovely Christmas Nicole ... and I repeat ... love your portraits (and I did click on them and see them up close :)

Look at you! Great progress! I'm trying a portrait every now and then and definitely need to practice more. But they are definitely not my favorite thing to draw. Love the faces you chose for art! So much expression and I always try to imagine, what the person is like. Thanks for sharing your progress! Happy PPF!

lol, I think they are all good in different ways. But, yes, as portraits the last ones are the best. But from what I see online many people draw faces like your first ones and even more "distorted" and that is considered great art. :)
I think your strength is catching their expressions :)

Yes! Practice makes perfect! I can see each face getting more amazing, great job! Maybe next February you'd like to join the 29 faces challenge :D
