Hi Everyone!
Thank you all for the wonderful comments about my eye. They all mean so much to me.
I promise to get to all of your blogs this weekend
to catch up on what all of you have been up to.
Today I don't have any art of my own. Rather I am sharing the bead art of Marlene Emmons
. I am proud to say that she uses my Nicole's BeadBacking.
So in her own words, Marelene Emmons
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, I now live in beautiful Gilbert,
AZ. My daughter introduced me to sculptural freeform beading about 20
years ago and the rest of my story is history! Although I do all types
of beading stitches, sculptural freeform peyote is still my passion, and
I teach when the occasion arises. Some of my freeform work was
included in Karen William’s latest book, “Explorations in Freeform
Peyote Beading”, pg. 23.
I am so fortunate to belong to
the Phoenix East Valley Beaders, a group of 55 women, who are
“Celebrating 20 years of Friendship through Beads”. There is a small
group of women who belong to the “Bead Art Mastery” (BAM) group, of
which I am so privileged to be a member. It is from this group that I
have learned to push my artistic thinking from only beaded jewelry to
other forms of art with beads.
Grandma’s Lace was beaded
on 4” x 4” sensuede piece, backed by NBB, and mounted on canvas squares.
One of the doilies was made by my Grandmother and I wanted to honor
her memory and her ability to crochet.
Circles of
Friendship in my Garden of Life – with this project we had to select an
artist that inspired us and I selected Kandinsky since I am drawn to
color and movement. The material, made up of many circles in varying
sizes, was perfect! Material is backed by a full sheet of NBB, heavily
beaded, with added cabochons and flowers then glued to an oval canvas
that I painted. The trees, done in right angle weave, were from another
challenge in the BAM group and seemed to fit perfectly “in my garden”.
The addition of the picket fence and the wording done by my daughter,
Kathi Hofferth, on her cricut machine, completed the piece which honors
all of the cherished friendships I have gained through beading.
The
Vase – After taking Liisa Turenen’s class of the Jeweled Lotus
Necklace, I realized the piece would be perfect as a “top” for a vase
and that is how this project started. This vase is about 6” tall and
was just a clear glass jar, spray painted and then beaded, starting at
the bottom and rounding up to the sides. Stitching for each row was
decided as I proceeded, including peyote, right angle weave, and hubble.
It was definitely a labor of love and a learning experience.
Angel Bracelet – This pattern is Regina Payne’s “Mountain Girl Bracelet” and was done on blaccelet” and was done on black
NBB, that had been scored with white pen in ½” sections. Scoring the backing is a perfect addition to symmetrical beading!
Linking today to Paint Party Friday.
