Hi Everyone!
It's a mess. The beautiful face I have been working on got messed up again with hair. I don't know why this is so difficult for me. I watch videos on it. Denthe sent me a video on how she draws hair. I have practiced, and practiced but when it comes to putting it on a head. I lose all sense of knowledge and reasoning. I was so proud that I actually got this face to look the age of the photo. Then I watched one more video that showed how to draw gorgeous hair with pastel.
WTH was I thinking?
I got her eyes and a bit more shading. I even started her hair with graphite.

I like it! Wish I had hair like that! Valerie
...I don't have much hair to mess up my beauty!
OMGOSH. This is simply out of this world. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.
I think she is beautiful!
Don’t be so hard on your effort. She is still beautiful! That said, her hair does overpower her best feature in the first photo...her face! A suggestion might be to have drawn just a hint of her hair, thus allowing her beautiful face to take center stage. Is this yet another thing we have in common?! I’m notoriously bad at overworking things. 🙃
Maybe you're trying to make it TOO realistic? What if you went more abstract instead with the hair? i.e. don't try to put in so much detail. Could that help?
Hey Nicole! I think she's beautiful too, the face and her eyes are spectacular. You're not alone with hair issues...I have trouble doing hair myself. I always overdo it. I used to watcha lot of Kirsty Partridge's videos and she has a great playlist on how to draw all sorts of hair and she's good. I'll give you the link in case you're interested: Hair Playlist
Thanks Rain, Kirsty is one I watch. LOL you would think I could learn something. LOL
It is worth a try. Thanks.
Her little face is too precious.
Hi Nicole, the woman seem different with the hair you painted. Why not try different styles. You have the images of the face photographed. Can you print it and try a different style?? The hair itself though is great.
I love your drawing, her hair is wild but it looks fantastic!!! Happy PPF, stay safe, Hazel (Didos) xx
It's a very good drawing. Have you ever looked at the book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, by Betty Edwards? If I remember right there's an exercise in that book where you turn the photo that you're working from upside down. That turns your 'oh-oh, hair-I can't draw that' voice off in your head. You draw what you see totally upside down. When you finish and turn your drawing the right way, it's interesting how you have drawn something you didn't think you could!
She's gorgeous Nicole! Don't be so hard on yourself. xx
I think you can be quite hard on yourself ...
What a fantastic lot of hair she has :)
All the best Jan
She's beautiful but I do agree that the hair is a little too dark/harsh against her soft face. Perhaps, darken some of her facial features/shadows to try and give more balance between face and hair? Or lighten the hair back with one of those kneadable erasers? Don't be too hard on yourself though...hair can be tricky. I can attest to that.
Well done. I don't think you can stress about hair too much, just go for it!
Gorgeous portrait ~ perhaps after all the detail work of a face you have to let loose with hair???

Boa noite. A pintura ficou muito legal. Parabéns.
I have such trouble with hair
your girl has meaning and expression, and after all who's hair looks good during this quarantine? lol
Hair IS difficult. Almost white skin and that dark hair - more shading on face?
Have a good week ahead!
Oh. I´m so sad I have to agree. The face is the very most beautiful. No more I want to say.
Please keep the WOW for the face.
Its not so bad...but practice makes us perfect...pls keep it up
I don't know what her hair should look like but it doesn't look that bad to me. Her face is gorgeous.
I understand your frustration and can see you have only gone over it too much because you are a perfectionist, that's all.. I have the same exasperation with feet and hands the advice I had (grandfather) was only paint what you see not what you imagine (impossible for me) and stop titivating it! I suspect your only issue is overthinking it which we all do when striving for perfection - in the real world nobody actually has perfect hair by the way :) your art is lovely and I like your subject work the best - I am no expert but would focus on those bits you are good at (you are very good at eyes). who needs hair anyway - a hat, scarf - a tattooed head - now, I wish I had the ability and patience to paint that!
I so hear you on drawing hair! I don't draw a lot of portraits, but many animals and ask me about drawing fur. I love her face! Turned out great. And it'S always a learning experience. Have a great day, my friend!
You have drawn that wonderfully again on your face and your hair, I think it's turned out great.
You are an artist, how lively the face looks!
Have a nice Advent season, hug Elke
You did go kinda insane with the hair, haha! 😜
But that's what my hair would look like if it were that long, too! 🤷♂️
Going insane was not a bad thing to do. She has wonderful hair, and I wish mine was more like that!
Thank you. Coming from you is quite encouraging.
I think she is so pretty! I really do! Big Hugs!
