Movie Monday NOTLD

Greetings!

Most of you know by know that I am horror movie queen. LOL Give me a scary, creepy. vampire, zombie, ghost, haunted house, fight the evil movie and I am in. In 1968, "The night of the living dead" appeared at the drive ins. Some of you remember drive ins. It was the best! Done in black and white with eerie screen shots that made this B movie so creepy. Director/Writer George A Ramero was 28 years old when he directed the movie. It was somewhat of a hit, at 30 million with US and International box office. It was so popular a game was made for those who just couldn't get enough.

In 1990 a remake of Night of the living dead came out and this is my favorite version of the film. The Hollywood Reporter has a great post with video on some of the best zombie movies. Click here to check it out.
The 1990 film is in color and has Tony Todd and Patricia Tallman as the stars with director Tom Savini
You can watch this on AMC

However, this movie had trouble on the set. Savini said, "It was the nightmare of his life."
You can read about it  From Wikipedia
Interesting side note.
The 1990 version is banned because of the usual blood and gore Deeming it an unhealthy influence on German youth.

Saturday Mix

Hi Everyone!

The other day I asked if anyone knew what this is.
There are some interesting guesses. Wood scraps, beat noodles, and 2 people guessed leather scraps. That is correct. This is skived leather scraps that will be used for doll hair later. For those of you who don't know what skiving is here are some photos.

There are several different types of skiving tools. I found this one to work best for me. Heavy metal with a sharp blade.

With some pressure pull the skiver towards you to remove  layers of leather. This makes the leather not so thick and easier to work with.

But I am getting ahead of myself. I enjoy working with leather more than other mediums. Right now I am working leather sculptures for a show next May. Leather should be wet to properly work with no matter what you are creating. For me it starts like this.

A pot of water with some white glue. I don't always use glue but for this leather I do. Do not allow the water to go over 120°F

When the leather is ready it's time to skive and bevel the edges.

Being careful not to go too deep on the leather. Again this is a very sharp tool.

Next is shaping the leather and allowing it to dry. This is a very simple twisting but the results are pretty nice.

After drying I paint the leather using different techniques. Air brushing is the easiest and for me the most fun.
While the paint is drying I make the base.
Then attach the leather twists.
These make the best gifts for men.

The base is covered in leather too. I will put a sealant on this and call it finished.
We are in a heck of a storm and it has turned cold. I still don't want to turn on my heaters.
So it is blueberry muffins for Mr. M.

 Right out of the oven

To get big muffin tops, preheat your oven at 500° F place muffins in oven for 5 minutes, then set temperature to normal cooking temp and time.

I still just like to eat muffin tops and baking
this way gives the best tops.

That's it for today. Wishing all of you a very nice Saturday.
