Hi Everyone!

I hope all of you had a great weekend. I was of course recouping from my bout in the hospital. I am doing a bit better thanks to the antibiotics and all the well wishes. I will find out soon what the biopsies show. In the mean time I will show you some of my new patterns I have listed both in my Beadwright Bead Coop and my Beadwright Etsy store. I say they are new, however, almost all of my patterns were designed from 1983 to present day. Updated the beads and colors and set them to PDF. So what are you doing today? I would like to paint today, however, I need to stand and move and do a dance when I paint. LOL to much for me right now maybe I will bead.

I really do want to know what all of you are doing.

Hi Everyone!

For those of you who have been hangin out with me a while, know that I share my body with lupus, and migraine is an integral part of my life. Last week I got really sick, went to the hospital hotel for a night and had a procedure done on Tuesday. Since last Thursday I have had head pain, like right now! So this weeks art for Paint Party Friday is how my head feels.... for real....

Hi Everyone!

The doctor put me on not 1 but 2 antibiotics today. I feel like some one ran over me and then backed and did it again. I have slept the afternoon away but before that I was emailing a lady by the name of Lisa Binkley. She is an amazing fiber/bead artist that uses my Nicole's BeadBacking. She sent a photo of her latest piece. It is simply stunning, as is all of her art. Lisa resides in Waunakee, Wisconsin, however, her art travels and has been featured in the Smithsonian, Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Bellevue Arts Museum. She is an instructor and is preparing for some February classes and I wanted to share them with you.

THE BENEFIT OF BEING SICK

Hi Everyone!

I kind of over did it yesterday. OKay OKay... Mike already reprimanded me.... LOL My main goal in life for the last 12 years is to stay as healthy as I can. lupus and now this new stomach thing,...so I found that when I am feeling, what for me, is good I tend to go all out. That is what I did yesterday. I was in pain but nothing I couldn't handle. Out of it I got a wild textured painting almost finished. It is wild! I will post it tomorrow on PPF. In the mean time, the benefit to getting sick, (hey there has to be some good out of it, right?) is you find out just how many people care about you. It is amazing. I am truly blessed to have all of you in my life. And theeennnnn yesterday I see a floral truck outside my house. I received the most beautiful bouquet of flowers all in shades of Lavender and purple. My very good friends Kelly Angeley and her sweet bough, Barry, took the time to think of me while they are on a trip to Calif and then Tucson. Kelly is teaching bead classes there this year. My photo isn't very good being it is 4:30 AM and no light. hee hee hee. The roses are the most ethereal Lavender and the Daisies Fuchsia/purple color. My favorite flower, I even have a tattoo of a daisy on my shoulder. I got it when I was 15, long before girls were getting tats. giggle giggle. So again thank you for all the love and caring. Kelly and Barry be safe on the road and enjoy that sunshine. Kelly told me it was 81 in LA yesterday.

Hi Everyone!

It feels like a busy day. I have been up awhile going over things I couldn't do yesterday. First I want to thank each and every one of you for the wonderful emails and e-cards. I will answer each one but it will take time. I received 108 good wishes emails. Thank you so much. You don't know how that makes me feel.
Ya know all warm and mushy inside. :)
The doctor took A LOT of biopsies yesterday, that I will know the results of on Feb 6. Really??? I have to wait that long? The nurse put a surgical hat on my head before going in and the first thing out of Mike's mouth was, "Ohh I should have brought the camera." OMG he loves taking photos of me in the hospital.
What is with that? LOL

So a few weeks ago I told you I had a surprise for you. Part of the surprise is on hold but I did manage to get this part accomplished. For a limited time only I have three different shades of green of Nicole's BeadBacking. I am so happy with these colors. I get more people wanted greens than any other color. So I have Leaf Green, Forest Green, and Bright Summer Green. These colors come in both the 12"x9" and the 9"x6" inch sheets. You can purchase them in my Beadwright etsy store or my NicoleCampanella web site

This is a limited set of colors and will go fast so if you need the green for spring and summer beading projects now is the time to get them. I have reduced the price too so that is a bonus.

I know that some of you know who Bobbi Kirk is. She lived just up coast from me. A wonderful lady who created bead art from the depths of her heart. Bobbi had been battling cancer for quite some time. She passed away last night. She will be missed.

HOSPITAL DID YOU MISS ME?

Hi Everyone!

Wow what a few days I have had. Friday morning we were waiting for the realtor to stop by our house. I had not been feeling well since Thursday night, but hey, I thought I could handle it. Well with out going into the gruesome details I ended up in the ER and the a stay in the hospital. Oh in the ER they gave me dilaudid. OMG what a great drug, until it wears off. (Thus the migraine I still have as I write.) It seems I have diverticulitis for sure and possibly a ischemic bowl. Ohhh how fun is getting old?? I had a million dollars worth of tests and Tuesday I go in for a "cheek to cheek" scope. Yaaa know from both ends. EEEEkkkkk. I do like my surgeon though and I feel I will come out of it OK. Probably with yet another migraine hhhggg...

My dear sweet husband thought it would be nice to take a few photos of me. I am so loaded and in pain at the same time in these photos that I had to share them with you. You all have seen me at my best in photos and now you get the rare chance to see me at my worse. Hee hee hee.

What scares me more than the illness are the medical bills I have coming.

So here I am, I like laughing at myself so you can too. I was TRYING

to speak to my daughter on the phone.

Mike brought my sketch book and the latest BSD magazine. The nurses thought it was so cool I am published in it. And several of the nursed that have piercing ordered the Beaded Belly Button piece. Believe me there was no time to sketch. See the throw up bag next to me. hee hee hee Plus they had me drinking more fluids than a fish.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY

Hi Everyone!

It has been a week with the Pacific coast storm still in full force. Although the wind did die down a bit last night, we will see what the weekend has to offer. Today for Paint Party Friday I have created another of my series of leather sculpture faces. This is entitled, "Cat Lady". Painted on a 12 x12 box canvas with acrylics, air brush, pods and seeds, cat claws, leather, porcupine guard hair and two white heart seedbeads.

IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM

Hi Everyone!

This is a quick post. We are in the midst of a storm that is massive. The wind blew our gate right off the hinges. Hope our fence makes it through the night as the storm is suppose to get worse this evening and all through the night. Electric is on again off again but some of my beading buds have had no electric since last night. I have the gennie ready, candles and our outdoor cooking gear. Oh yeahhh and the beer.

SNOW IN FLORENCE!!

Hi Everyone!

Well our beautiful weather has come to an end for a few days. It started snowing around 3:30 AM. Yes I was up with head pain, it is gone now. The snow got heavier at dusk, big, wet, flakes coming down pretty hard. Hey, I lived in snow country most of my life and even though this look pretty right now, I hope the is all we will see of it. LOL

With the banks and post office closed, and the snow on the ground I am in for the day. I am painting and doing some clay work. What are you doing today?

Hi Everyone!

First I have to tell you that yesterday was an amazing day. I met with Julianna Cannon from Julsbeads. OMG if you like Juls online you will love her in real time. She is amazingly beautiful and has a southern bell accent that sounds so sweet. It was instant sisterhood. You know that person you meet that you know you have had a past life with. We met up with some glass and bead people who really wanted to meet her. Charmain Pesnell, and Kelly Angelly. We had a few minutes with Denise Gaffey Sanders too. I could spend all day with Juls. She is a beautiful soul. Ohhh did you want to see photos???? WE BOTH FORGOT OUR CAMERAS!!!!!

So today has been a busy day for me and I was ending it by checking out all the wonderful art from PPF. Visit the artists there, you will meet some very nice people and see some great art.

Then one of my blogging buddies wrote to let me know that she is having a huge birthday giveaway. It is her mother's 79th so she is giving a birthday gift away. Hi Everyone!

Today is Friday the 13th one of my most favorite and lucky days of the year for me. So I am looking forward to seeing what great things happen today.

It is also Paint Party Friday (PPF) Thanks to Eva and Kristin hosting this event every Friday. Today my piece is a bit different, ooohhh I forgot my paintings ARE a bit different. LOL. This one really is. I work a lot with bees wax, making my own natural mixture for my Huichol beading. So why not on canvas. For this piece I used pigmented hot bees wax, pastels, sea shell, and spiked beads. Hope you enjoy it.

Bead Design Studio n Me

I am posting this tonight because I do have a piece for tomorrows Paint Party Friday, (PPF). I went to the mail before heading to town and there was my Bead Design Studio magazine. EEEEkkkkk I love this issue! Not because I have several pages in this 2012 issue, but because Pam Hawkins, Joanna Tiritilli, and their team have strive for excellence and achieved it. I have been apart of this magazine since Pam founded it 10 years ago. I believe this is the best issue to date. Congratulations ladies. With that said there is one little thing that needs to be changed. I have to go to town today so it will be a long day for me.

If you don't know what the 500 series is from Lark Books then something is wrong! Hee hee hee. These are "coffee table books" on many different art subjects. I have three today to tell you about. All three of these books are published in the highest quality. 500 photos of art work from artists around the world. The photography is intensely sharp and the art is some of the best you will see. Even if you don't work in the medium presented in the books the inspiration is incredible and can transfer over to your art.

Hi Everyone!

Last summer I posted that I was not going to complain about the Florence, OR. weather this year... and I haven't, why? because the weather has been absolutely beautiful. In fact we have had more sunshine since mid November than we did all summer. It is a bit cold but hey the sun is out. I know that this is not a good thing. There will be lots of fires and some drought this summer. Can't win for loosing right? LOL

Hi Everyone!

I returned home from my mom's just a few hours ago. Everything is put away and I am in my comfy clothes, yes PJs. I also had a wonderful surprise. I had an email from Juls, you know from JulsBeads. OMG she is visiting OR. and is staying in the next town over from me. Literally 20 minutes away. I phoned her and we are meeting this Saturday for lunch!!! Yeahhhhh I am so excited!!! I was also so surprised that her voice is NOTHING like her face. hee hee hee. A sweet southern bell.

Also since I have been gone and I had my last post pre dated. I lost a close up of the steam punk man. So here is that close up.

OOOMY MORE BLUE?

Hi Everyone!

Today is the 5th and the new Project Runway season begins. I am so excited. Okay... so it doesn't take much to excited me. What can I say??? LOL

So most of you know that I am not a fan of the color blue. For me it is difficult to work with, however, the last few weeks blue has been the dominate color in some of my art. From jewelry to gourds. Yes, my next project is a "blue" gourd. I am not sure why the switch in my artists brain. Blue is NOT the color of the Oregon coast. Grey and all of it's shades masters here. :) So I am not going to fight it. If blue is the color for me right now then blue it is. I haven't shown you any new jewelry for awhile. Most of the pieces I am making now are for publication. But here is one that I personally love.

How can you go wrong with Turquoise leather and dicro glass? A statement for sure

The sun is out. How strange is that for Florence, OR? Hey I am not complaining at alllllll. LOL

I have already done a ton of things today. I am packing up things, getting rid of a lot and donating to the Women's Shelter. That is where I do all of my donating. In the RE-packing process I found this old art doll I made back in the 1980s. So I though I would share her with you.

Nowwwwww.... I have a secret. No no no I am not going to tell you what it is. You will have to come back to see what I have coming up. Hmmmm maybe in two weeks. Ohhhh I love keeping all of you in suspense.

It is amazing the energy I have as of late. A two week stint with migraine and now that it is over I feel like I am in high gear. Yeaaahhhh I love it! I have been working on so many art projects that even Mike mentioned it last night. I even made a new cuff pattern for my Beadwright BeadCoop!!

BLUE BLUE BLUE

Hi Everyone!

If you partied last night I hope you had fun and made it home safely. Today the sun is out the wind is not too bad and it just feels like a good day. I began my word for the year, "change" updating my blog. Hope it is appealing and you like it.

I did finish up my PPF piece. I don't normally show WIP because my progress changes with the process of creating. The other thing is, and some of you know this. I dislike working with blue. Blue rises and tends to float off the canvas and it takes an eye or talent to settle it down. So when this piece started out in blue I surprised even myself. LOL

This is it! The last day of the year. I know for me it seems to have gone buy so quickly and there were some difficult times. I am looking for 2012 to be better, be more...... I know to have those two things there must be change. Some things are changing in my life that I have no control of and there are some choices that I am making for change. I like the choices I am in control of LOL. I have read on a lot of blogs that people are selecting a word for the year instead of a resolution. I never make a New Years resolution so I like this idea of a word and making it real in my life for 2012. My word is "Change" When I think of how powerful that word is, it is a bit daunting but I am up for it.

Paint Party Friday

Hi Everyone!

After so many weeks of beautiful sunny weather here on the Oregon Coast, Mother Nature decided to make up for it in the last few days. Howling wind and torrents of rain. This week I have been incredibly busy so my Paint Party Friday piece is a work in progress. This one doesn't have a title yet although several are swimming in my head. This is a 12x12 inch box canvas, acrylic paints, plaster molded face with variegated metal green Leaf. When she is finished there will be layers of textual dimensions created with beads and textiles. GOURD MANIA

Hi Everyone!

Today is another day of intense art and all that it entails. :) I was planning on revamping my Beadwright Etsty store and my website, however, that will have to wait for another day.

If you have been with me awhile you know that I have been beading gourds since the mid 1990s and in 2005 wrote an instructional book on beading gourds. Gourds and art is not a new theme at all and there is a good reason for that. Gourds make an incredible canvas, You can create almost any type of art in any medium on a gourd. Here is my latest piece. Cut, cleaned, shaped, texture painted, beaded and embellished.

I love it when the beads know to lay perfectly on the gourd.

It is so important when working with gourds to clean and scrape the inside as well as cleaning the outside.

The natural cracks and imprints of the gourd creates it's own art.

Hi Everyone!

I hope all of you had a wonderful day yesterday. I don't celebrate Christmas but it seems to be a time where I am on the phone with every family member I have. It was nice.

To start this week off I want to share with you a book entitled "Chains Chains Chains". Now for all of you "oldies" every time I see this book all that goes through my head is Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin. Now those were the days of great music. LOL Anyway when I first saw this book my thought was, "ooh another book on buying chain and making jewelry." sigghhhhh.... However once I opened the book and saw exactly what it was, I could not have been happier.

Chains Chains Chains 25 necklaces bracelets & earrings takes you to the very beginnings of chain jewelry. Yes this magnificent book shows you how to make the chains first. I love this!!!! Joanna Gollberg and Nathalie Mornu have taken away the mystery of creating chain. Each project is complete with description and what you will need to accomplish the task. There is texture and depth to the chains that are in this book. There is life in the metal when it is all done properly and then designed into a wearable piece. If making your own components for jewelry is what you enjoy the you will want this book.

PPF SCULPTURE PAINTING

It is Friday.... again.... I have been trying to get things finished up this week and I did pretty well. Clothing beaded, gourds beaded, ohhh and I made some Mexican Brownies. OMG.....good thing they are being sent to my kids. LOL But today is Paint Party Friday and I want to share another of my sculpture paintings. This one is on a 12 x12 inch canvas painted with acrylics, an epoxy clay face surrounded by very old African striped seed beads and long Howlite points. I hope the photos show the depth of this piece.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE DAYS GONE?

Hi Everyone!

I can't believe this month is almost over and 2012 is upon us. Especially the last 4 or 5 days. I have been able to get a few things finished, articles sent off, and even some beading all of this in the midst of migraine. Some one told me once that when you get older the migraines subside. Haaaaa... THEY LIED.... :)

I am better today and even have some energy. My foot is healing too. Wowowow... one thing after another. Thank goodness for art.

Most everyone is so busy this time of year. Me included. I did want to share another Lark Book with you. Every time I pick this book up I am amazed at the ingenuity of techniques that Carles Codina shares in his book, Color, Texture & Casting for Jewelers.
Carles has taught at the Escolo Massana in Barcelona, Spain, for more than 20 years. I mention this because this book is as if you are in his class room. From cover to cover this is an incredibly appealing book. The raw materials changed into the beauty of jewelry pulls you in immediately. There are 128 pages of information that is precise with text and photography. Chapters begin with Metal Combinations and Applications, Textures and Patinas, and Practical Application. Then Carles continues with Microcasting and Modeling, Artisanal Casting, and Practical Application. This book is set up so you move smoothly through techniques and methods to create beauty.

The one thing that I loved about this book is the history that Carles lays out. As I mentioned before this book feels as if you are in the classroom so put on your apron, light up your torch and get ready to learn. This book will take you on an adventure of creativity.

This has been a busy day full of accomplishments. One of the things I finished is my painting. I never have been a conventional painter, my Grandmother didn't care for that very much, but she liked that I was adventurous. So here is my painting with a molded and skived leather face on acrylic painted canvas. Seed beads edging, with African porcupine quills died orange. This is a box canvas that measures 12 squared.

Hi Everyone!

If you have been with me awhile or have looked at older posts, then you know I love "eye art". While looking around etsy the other day I came across a woman who creates some amazing pieces. I contacted her and come to find out she is also from Oregon. One of my readers mentioned that there are a lot of very good artists here on the coast. Hmmm .... I must agree.

So I would like to introduce to you, Jill from Twisted Sister Arts.

In her own words,

My name is Jill Lawrence, I'm the owner and artist of Twisted Sister Arts, in Oregon City, Oregon. Long story short...I was born and raised in Milwaukee, about 10 miles from here. After a life of working in the Floral industry, I found my self with two flower shops and widowed at Christmas 1996. I remarried 10 months later, to a customer of mine, but he lived in Philadelphia. I sold my stores, and moved, and a year and a half later, a dream job was offered in Chicago, so I took them up on it. I started my wire work, making scarf rings, to go along with my scarves I sold at a local farmers market. The wire work evolved into higher quality work, as I taught myself technique and style, and I joined etsy 3 1/2 years ago. I found weaving eyes 2 years ago, and they sold well. So well, that this last March, when I came home to visit my mother, she offered me the family home, and her in it! We went back to Chicago to crunch numbers, and said it was time to move back home. I gave my bosses 7 weeks notice, worked like crazy, my husband was sweet, and packed the house. Come the first week of June, we packed the car in 95' and 95% humidity, and left Illinois. We have been home now 6 months, my etsy store continues to be my source of income and I love working on orders daily.

My routine is to get up around 6:30, and stumble out for breakfast. I pack orders with my shipping department (hubby), and then work on listings and fresh work. Commissions and one of a kind pieces take most of the day, with many emails and photographs that buzz around the world. I have customers in England, New Zealand and Hong Kong, and they want the unusual and custom eyes and colors. I have learned that customs in other countries have their limits of 5 items per box, and a small priority mail box can usually arrive for $13.75. I take the time to write each and every customer, to have them know that they are dealing with a real person, an artist that creates wild and beautiful art.

TALENT IN ABUNDANCE

Hi Everyone!!

I am home! Actually I returned home Sunday night. I had a wonderful visit with my mom. It is important to me to spend as much time as I can with her and we always have fun no matter what we do.

Soooooo as you might know I play the game of catch up for a few days and then settle into routine. I got my curtains made and hung. You never know how much a room can change until you put up new curtains. I have three pieces in the works. One beading, one gourd, and a new project that has been dancing in my head for awhile. It is a multi media piece worked on canvas. Of course I will show you when it is finished. In the mean time I want to tell you about my very good friend, Lori Cook. Some of you already know her so this will not come as a surprise. Lori is one of those people that can do just about anything. You know give her glass and she can make butter dishes to windows for a house. Giver her beads and she can make jewelry to full Native regalia. Give her leather and she can make pouches to clothing. Give her a computer and she can put her designs to patterns, make banners, and create awesome websites. Besides all of that she is a very nice person with a giving heart. So I told you all of that to invite you to her new website. She also has a blog, etsy store, two or three patterns stores and..... well you see what I am talking about, "Talent in Abundance."

It has been busy here plus I am having a pity party with my broken foot. I guess since it is the second time it has been broken in the last year and a half I can have a pity party. :)

I am off to my mom's today so I have some packing to do and then hit the road.

I did want to share my Man of the North with you. His name is Gus. His face is a cleaned, cut, and shaped gourd, clay face, acrylic eyes, and Fox fur.

DOWN FOR THE COUNT

Hi Everyone!

I am taking it real easy today. Yesterday was a full 18 hours of migraine. None of my meds worked. uuuhhhgggg... today I am trying to not even move my head if I don't have to. LOL

For those of you who suffer with migraine you know what I am talking about. I can hardly believe it is Dec. 1.

I truly do not know where this last year has gone. I try to think what I have done, who I have seen, how I have connected to this world. It is a blur. We were all told, when we were young, that the older we get the faster time goes by. Well that is one thing "they" didn't lie about LOL. This last weekend I did get two of my pieces done. Only got photos of the special order bolo and here it is. I used one of the cabs I bought from Lori Cook, Out of the Flames. I have these in some of my kits too.

For now here is the bolo. Men, women, and kids look great in these.

Lori makes glass to match beads and I love that.

BROKEN FOOT AND BEADWRIGHT SALE

Hi Everyone!!

First I want to thank all of you for the well wishes on my foot. To answer some of the questions; I first broke my foot last year while doing hospice for my brother in CA. I didn't know it was broken and because of everything I was doing didn't get it checked. Actually my foot hurt A LOT but I just thought it was my lupus feet. LOL Still don't know how I broke it the first time. Soooo after all the doctors I finally saw a wonderful podiatrist who set me up with a bone healing machine and a good medical boot. And my foot healed. Well since then I have just been using my foot like normal. (REALLY?) what I should have been doing is babying that foot. About a week ago it began to hurt and sure enough it is broken again. You have to remember I live in a place that gets hardly any sunshine and I don't care how many vitamin D and A one takes our bodies need SUN!! :) That is my gripe for the day.

Hi Everyone!

For those of you who have been with me awhile do you remember these photos and the year and a half that I had a broken foot????? OMG it is broken again. Same place. I am back in this 5 pound boot and on the bone healing machine again. Booo hoo hooo. My foot hurts all the way up to my knee. LOL well maybe not that far up but it fricken hurts. For you young people getting OLD SUCKS.

Looking on the bright side of this, I have to sit with my foot elevated so I will be getting lots of beadwork done.

HOW LUCKY AM I?

Hi Everyone!

TG is over and now it is time to get back to it. Well it is for me. LOL I spent the day doing nothing and then Friday had some running around to do. Today I have 3 projects in the works and need to have them finished by Monday.

Yesterday, part of my running around was going to the post office. My box was full of the usual junk mail, some local advertising and two packages. OMG!!!! what a wonderful surprise!!! Early Christmas. My dear friend Maureen from Moeart sent me some cabs that she makes from polymer. I have to tell you they are the most detailed cabs with a finish that is soft and smooth. I just love holding them. They are spectacular.

The second package was from Karen Williams. She had a giveaway on her blog, no I didn't win the giveaway. Karen so generously sent out "looser" gifts. LOL ha ha ha.

She wrote asking for my address and said she would send a "thank you" gift for joining in. Well... I wasn't expecting such a generous gift, but this is what she sent.

WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY?

Hi Everyone!

Well I can't even come close to telling you how strong the wind is here. At least it is coming out of the south so it is not too cold. It feels like a lot of energy when the wind blows 60 to 80 mph and that is exactly what I had today. Energy! So I got my power tools out, got the air brush out, got the saws out, and started cutting, shaping, sanding, and painting gourds. I couldn't stop, the ideas just started flowing out of my head. Then I sanded and base painted a clay shoe I made a few weeks ago. I will have the shoe finished tomorrow and the gourds will all get beaded. One mask, one sculpture, and two bowls. Sooo... what did you do today?

I work the power tools in the garage not in this space. LOL

It has been a quiet weekend here. Might have something to do with the freezing cold. LOL.

I am working on pieces for galleries and magazines so I can't show those. I did make up a beaded gourd and finally got Alvin painted. He looks like a bronze statue in real life.

PROJECT ACCESSORY boo hoo hoo

Hi Everyone!

It is still storming something wicked here. However, that lends to good days for creating. I have accomplished so much over the last two days.

Soooo did you watch Project Accessory last night? It was creating a handbag for a client. Now if you have not worked with a "client" before, let me tell you it can be a nightmare. I didn't really see any nightmare clients on the show and for the most part the contestants worked out any issues, however, that brought about some sad looking handbags. My favorite guy ,James, was booted. Yes, even though James is an excellent designer with impeccable finishing he was unable to complete the entire challenge. The "other" guy's work was so shoddy that he should have been booted. Can hardly wait for next week. ( I really want to be on this show)

FIBER ARTS TOO COOL

Hi Everyone!!

I am swamped this week not only playing catch up from being at my mom's for 4 days but new things I have to accomplish this week. Busy is a good thing. LOL

While I was at my mom's there was an art walk in her town. I don't know about where you live but Oregon is big on art walks. Almost every little town has them once a month. Part of this art was staged in the fire house and since it was cold as... well you know... we went there and by passed walking the streets. This was set up for the fiber artists, there was some really nice pieces. My first fave was a gal from Wasilla, AK. who just moved down with her husband. She made the most amazing felted people. Her detail is amazing.

Now some of you may know that I am a hot oooppsss I mean hat person. I love wearing hats off all kinds. I don't really look good in a hat but hey who cares. I have a few felt hats that I have paid a pretty penny for. This lady's work is impeccable. I truly liked everything about her hats and bags. And then I saw her prices. OMG!!! not what you are thinking, her prices are so affordable. Most items were only $25.00.

The book is very much like being in the class room and I believe that is the experience Jeri wanted to accomplish. Hi Everyone!

I am in a hurry this morning, got up late and have to be on the road very soon. I am off to my mom's for a few days. A nice 3 hour drive especially this time of year when all the fall colors are in full. I know some of you are in the midst of winter already.

I wanted to thank everyone who has taken advantage of my beading kits. I have all of them priced out at $10.00. If you ever wanted to work with Porcupine Quills I even have an earring kit with those. You can get all of my kits through my Beadwright etsy store.

Now for some news I don't like giving but it is a must. Due to a few years of bad cotton crops, especially in 2010, Nicole's BeadBacking will be going up in price. Not by much, not by much, however, it is something that I soooo dislike doing. We have tried to keep the price the same but our cost is going up all the time. So with out too much sticker price, beginning Nov 15, 2011 12x9" NBB will be $3.00 a sheet. 9x6" will be $1.50 sheet and sample packs of all 14 colors of NBB will stay the same at $6.00. OK so it isn't as bad as you thought only .50cents and Nicole's BeadBacking is still the best value on the market. So if you need some get it before Nov. 15.

A RAY OF SUNSHINE FROM HAWAII

Hi Everyone!

I promised I wasn't going to complain about the Florence, OR. weather and this is not a complaint just an observation. LOL It is so gray and gloomy on the Pacific Northwest coast that there are days I just want to scream. However, I received the most excellent gift today in the mail. My new friend, Maureen AKA Moeart, from Hawaii sent me a ray of sunshine. She really did!!! I love this gift but most of all I love how she used my Nicole's BeadBacking. I love that she used NBB as the finish backing and how she incorporated the pin blank. Great job Moe and thank you so very much.

Hi Everyone!

I am taking a quick break. Have you ever had so much art in your head that you wished there was 5 of you to execute it all? That is how I am most of the time but today it is especially dangerous. LOL! It is as if I woke up with "Art Head" you know where your brain wants to explode with ideas. So today I have beaded, painted, worked a clay piece, did a rough carving out of pipe stone and now I think after this I will draw. OK sooooo do ya wanna see what my brain looks like on art???

Hi Everyone!

There are a few TV shows I watch, Project Runway, all 9 seasons, Chopped cooking show. Love the ingredients in the baskets and two new shows that started a few weeks ago. Works of Art the Next Generation, and Project Accessory. Last night it was SHOES and SWAROVSKI. How can one go wrong with that??? The contestants got to go the Swarovski and pick out inspirational pieces plus crystals. Then they had to create jewelry and a pair of shoes. I so could have won that one!!!! I have a favorite and I have a very least favorite on this show. My fav James Sommerfeldt, not because he can make shoes but because he also is willing to help the other contestants. That is a true artist and a person who is not threatened even in competion.

Hi Everyone!

It is Halloween and I couldn't be more happy. I have the candy ready to go and the front porch is decorated, (it has been for weeks LOL) Can't wait for the kids to come knocking on the door.

Hope the rain goes away for that.

So while I am waiting for the night to come I thought I would introduce you to a guy that I think is pretty cool. His name is Keith but he goes by ChactawKeith. I find that there is an easiness about him. He doesn't seem to be hurried or pressured and that comes through in his art. Keith sent me a few photos and one of a piece in progress using my Nicole's BeadBacking. I am so fortunate that Nicole's BeadBacking has brought so many very nice and talented people into my life.

Keith is one of them.

In his own words

About Me:

I grew up in Carlsbad, New Mexico. I currently live in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. I am married to wife Julie. We have four children: Jennifer, Heather, Jackie and Chris and four grandchildren.

I am a graduate of New Mexico State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. I spent forty-one years with Continental Tire North America before retiring in 2009. I was corporate manager of their North America environmental programs when I retired.

I have always had an interest in the arts. I have experience in oil painting and stained glass. Julie and I are active in numerous community theater groups where we perform onstage and assist backstage. I have done a commercial for digital television for WSIU. Julie and I can be seen in the documentary "The Legend of Charlie Birger" produced by WSIU.

Design Inspirations:

Having grown up in the Southwest, and being a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, I have an appreciation for Native American design. My father was a "rock hound" and taught me an appreciation for mineral gemstones. On all of my Native American theme designs I try to use mineral gemstone beads in the necklace fringe to compliment the design.

How did I get into beading?

In 2002, we were in Carlsbad and visited the Carlsbad Art Association shop. There was a selection of splitloom necklaces by Frieda Bates for sale. We bought one.

With the necklace came a brochure about Frieda and a reference to her website. After reading about her work, I wanted to learn how to do loom beading. I sent her an e-mail and she replied recommending two books: "Out on a Loom" by Margie Deeb and "Beading on a Loom" by Don Pierce. With these two books, I began the most enjoyable hobby of my life.

Hi Everyone!

Today it is pouring rain and so it is a good day to sculpt. No I am not doing a my beloved faces today I am making my next favorite thing an art shoe. I have been obsessed with shoes since I was little. I always wore funky wild shoes and in the 1970s and 1980s I was the disco shoe queen. I suppose that is why my feet are so messed up now. LOL However, I have never lost the love of the shoe. Here are a few I found on line how cool are these?

MY GRANDMOTHER'S SWAROVSKI

Hi Everyone!

I have been so busy getting ready for winter. I have cleaned and packed up the back room. You know the things that you haven't even looked at for a few years??? Why are they in my room?! I has amazed me at how much space I actually have back there. LOL

If your read along with me you know that I am so very fortunate to have my great grandmother, grandmother and some of my mom's beads and jewelry. Sooo while going through boxes I came across some small paper boxes that were filled with treasures. I remember packing them away years ago but to find them now feels like a grand surprise. These are all stud earring made with Swarovski Rivolis and small Swarovski crystals. At first I thought to reconstruct the stones.... haaa I have a better idea and can't wait to get started on this project. How cool are these earrings??

Speaking of "Project" How many of you watch Project Runway and now the first episode of Project Accessory? Well I think two mistakes were made last night. As much as I liked Anya I felt that her lack of experience should NOT have made her the winner. Just seems wrong. Hey that is my opinion.

The other mistake I think that was made last night was the first elimination of Project Accessory. If you didn't see it check it out.

I do like the concept of the show and it will be interesting to see it play out. I just might apply for next year.

After grocery shopping I stopped in at my friends bead store to find these awesome and very colorful resin beads. I am not usually into anything other than glass but these are so bright and full of life that I had to get them. They have drill holes but I am going to do something completely different with them. I will show you as I get the piece finished.

Most of you know that I am, and have been my entire life, on the macabre side. So when my friend Charmain phoned to see if I would be home saying that she said she had something for me, I knew it had to be something spooky. She pulled this little guy from behind her back and we both cracked up so hard we had tears coming down our cheeks. I love this guy!!! He fits in perfectly.

Hi Everyone!

I had to make a trip to Newport today, that is Newport, OR. Needed to go to the art store and a few other places. It makes for a long day. I wanted to share with you something fun I worked on yesterday.

OK for my long time readers, do you remember Alvin???

He started like this a clean, painted, and carved gourd

He got eyes

and then a clay face.

However, before he was quite dry I picked him up and he flew out of my hands. Alvin went to pieces.

So he has been sitting on my work shelf all this time waiting for a new face. He got one yesterday. I used a different type of clay so even if I drop him again he won't crack up. LOL

Alvin in his new face. He has ears and a hat. He is not exactly like his old self but when I get done with him he will be a happy guy.

I wanted to stop what I was doing, clear my space so I could just go make rings. The best part these rings can be made in 30 minutes or less. Each ring is classic.

ME N MOM

Hi Everyone!

Did you miss me? I spent the last four days with my mom. We always have the best time together and this trip was no different. We spent Saturday shopping and 3 hours of that was looking at the rows and rows of Halloween goodies. Mom and I sprayed our hair blue and got witchy neon striped stockings to wear. And we did! that night when we went to dinner. OK so mom and I have truly reverted to our childhood. LOL

WANNA MEET A VERY COOL LADY?

Hi Everyone!

I have met this very cool lady a while back when she purchased some of my Nicole's BeadBacking. If she lived closer I would definitely be hanging out with her. She is so full of fun and energy and artistic talent. So I would like to introduce Maureen Taylorson (AKA) Moeart. Here she is in her own words.

When I was little, in cold, dark Buffalo, New York, I started my crafting life making my own doll clothes and then my own clothes. Life intervened and over the decades I found myself living in Honolulu where I've been these last 33 years. Crafting called again so I progressed to drawing and painting then I found polymer clay. When I decided I wanted to learn how to bead, a friend in San Jose taught me...long distance! During that time, I was also teaching myself wire wrapping. Now, with those 3 crafts, I have more fun than any one person deserves. :D

A new beading friend told me to go to see Nicole's BeadBacking when I was whining one day about white backing. And so, I trotted off to Nicole's site and didn't look back! I told my friend Ginger and she bought some, too. For those who love to bead, this stuff is the best! It comes in lots of gorgeous colors and doesn't fray! It's soft enough to use as actual backing when you don't want to use ultra suede. It's firm enough for good bead/cab support but is thin enough so your finished piece looks wonderful. I just got some cabs from Nicole and they are gorgeous! Guess I better get going and make something, hunh? :D So, here are a couple photos of stuff I'm making or have just finished. Yay for Nicole's Bead Backing!!

GINGERBELLS AND NICOLE'S BEADBACKING

Hi Everyone!

Today has been one of those days that busy out does accomplishments. LOL. You know that kind of day where the more you do the less seems to get done. That is me today. Today is also a day where I have counted my blessings. That is not the right saying. I didn't actually count them I am just aware of how blessed I am. Almost on a daily basis I receive emails about how much people "love" my Nicole's BeadBacking. That is one of the blessings. Another blessing is that these people, and I know you are one of them. are very talented, well versed in the art of beading and some of the nicest ever. I want to give back and share some of these nice people with you. So my first feature guest is a lovely lady by the name of Ginger Gonzalez. She lives in rural South central Indiana with her husband, Jose. They have been married for 20 years and live with 2 cats and 1 dog. They are the proud parents of one child and have two beautiful grand babies.

In Ginger's own words to some questions I ask.

How and when did you get started in crafts and beading and what you like most about it;

I have been crafting all of my life. My favorite thing to do is make pretty things. I always have a project on my work table. I began beading when I was about 12 years old. That is when I got a beading loom from the Tandy store as a gift from my Grandma. I was amazed that I could take pretty little beads some thread and a needle and turn it into something pretty. I had a sweet little business going making beaded friendship bracelets for the other girls at school, lol. I have done it off and on since then. I like beads so much that about 8 years ago I began to make my own to add to my designs....The thing I like best about beading is that with such simple tools amazing beautiful things can be made.

What stitches and beads do you like to use;

Right now I am loving bead embroidery. So my favorite stitches are the traditional backstitch, peyote, RAW and several nice edging stitches. I love delicas and crystals, glass buttons, gemstones and my hand made polymer clay cabochons.

Why you like NBB and anything else you want to share;

I love Nicole's BeadBacking for several reasons: 1. the weight and thickness of it is the perfect foundation it makes it so easy to keep stitches neat and in line when doing projects like this cuff bracelet ..

2. I love the colors and the texture of the backing.

3. needles glide right through it and it cuts easily without fraying.

I highly recommend it and I know it will be my bead backing of choice.

SATURDAY BEAD CLASS

Hi Everyone!

I think the vacation is starting to catch up with me. I would love to go back to bed and sleep a few more hours. LOL! However, I have a bead class to teach tomorrow and need to get things ready for that. If you are in Reedsport, OR. tomorrow stop in at the Mind Power Art Gallery and sign up for the class. It is going to be soooo much fun. The class is; Creating Professional Jewelry" Learning how to finish your pieces with the right materials and techniques. There is nothing worse that having a great piece of jewelry and having the clasp, or finishing touches not finished. In the early 1990's I purchased hand crafted jewelry for a big name store. Before I ever looked at design or content I inspected the finish. You would be surprised at how many pieces were turned down for people just not knowing how to complete a piece properly. NEW BEADS SPIKES IN COLORS

Hi Everyone!

I have most of my emails answered for those of you who have not heard from me hang on I only have 125 emails left and may be in that number. LOL I also have been listing some new beads I got. They are sooooo awesome!!! They are spike beads in bright vibrant colors. They are acrylic and perfect for long dangly ANYTHING! but especially earrings. I am so wanting to get to my work table to make something long and shinny that doesn't weigh down. They are also perfect for any type of embellishments. OK you wanna see some of the colors???

I don't have all of them listed but here are a few that are in my Beadwright Etsy store now.

This is day two nope day three of being home from my vacation. OMG I have so much to do and so little time to do it. It feels like the more I do the less I get done. So today I am taking it easy, just one thing at a time. Here is my first enjoyable task of the day. I have chosen the winner of "a bounty of bead + wire earrings!!!! EARRING REMIND ME TO LISTEN

As you know I have been reviewing books and then giving a copy away courtesy of Lark Books and Sterling Publications. Great news for all of you! Starting with this book review I will be giving away a book a week for the next 10 weeks. Yes, that is 10 different art books. Some glass, some beads, some raku and well you get the idea. The title of my post is, "Earrings remind me to listen." In the early 1980's I was a vendor at art shows across the North and South West parts of the US. My main seller at that time was seed beaded earrings. Mike made wood carved earrings boards for me that held 21 pairs each.
