WORKING IN THE ABSTRACT

Hi Everyone!
It is Sunday and I am not quite sure where the heck the week went to. Today I am spending the day painting. Yep, Mike is upstairs watching football. "yuck" I am putting on some music and doing something I have not done before. Well not on a full scale. I am very... hhhmmm... how should I put this..... "atypical" "abby-normal"  LOL What ever it is, I have this "thing" that there must be balance. Example, If there are three apples on the left side of a basket there has to be three of something on the other side of the basket. Items have to be lined up perfectly, not jumbled or messed up, or out of control looking things. Starting to get the idea? Clutter will drive me to craziness. Soooooo I said all of that to tell you that I am attempting some abstract art. You would think this would be so easy, throw some paint on a canvas and call it a day. Not soooo at all. I have been studying this for sometime now. I find that at some level it does appeal to my quirkiness. There IS a balance, a method, a format to creating something that comes from deep inside. A picture in your brain that one can emit to canvas with an explosion of color and design.  I do this, to some extent, already with beading and leather. Now, it is time to take this to the canvas.
This is my drive for 2014 wish me luck.
What are your plans for 2014?

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE

Hi Everyone!

I am writing tonight to ask for some help. PLEEEAASE. I know there are a lot of people having trouble with google/blogger and the w.gwr.xml module file. You know the runtime for IE 10 and IE 11. I have done all of the recommended fixes that I have found on line and read the google blog to see what they say with no luck.  It only happens when I go into my blog to write a post or read comments. So does any one of you smart techy types have any answers for me????
I appreciate any help to fix this.

HOW LUCKY AM I? THANKS LORI

Hi Everyone!

I talk to my good friend, Lori Culligan who lives in WA.several times a day, EVERYDAY. I was telling her that I needed to rig up an easel for some large canvas I have. Before I could tell her what I had in mind she tells me she has an easel that she will send to me. REALLY??? She tells me she hasn't used it since her kids were little. Before I know it UPS is at my door. Wow during the Christmas rush it got here in  just a few days. So how lucky am I? First to have Lori as my longtime best friend and for her to send me an easel. That is how lucky.
Thank you Lori you are the best.
Now if you want to meet or if you already know Lori head over the both of her blogs and her etsy store. She will amaze you.

Now to show you my very special gift.

Wishing all of you a very special friend in you life.

PPF BEADED FACE

Hi Everyone!

This has been a trying week for me. I have been going to physical therapy every day. I am sooooo happy to report that my feet are getting better. Kate, my therapist, is fantastic! I am confident that when she is done with me I will have walk-ABLE feet again. LOL

For Paint Party Friday I am showing a work in progress.
It is a beaded face and hand. I molded, carved and prepped the face for beading.  I molded my own hand, actually two fingers and thumb and cover it with leather. I beaded the face first. Then attached hand to the face and beaded that.  I adopted this style of beading from Huichol yarn art. Some artists of the Huichol tribe take colorful yarns and wrap them around spiritual animals. My grandmother gave this to me in 1972.
She and my grandfather spent time in Mexico with a Huichol family.

Sooooo why not do this with strands of seed beads? Over the last 40 plus years I have created many pieces with this technique.
This is still a WIP
The head is partially carved out and the hand is backwards. A woman's feeling of "life" the hardships, that sometimes twist us, muddle our thoughts and perplex our vision of the future.
In all of this we maintain our beauty.
She is entitled
 "Torsion"
(twisted, bewilderment, entanglement, quandary)
Hope you enjoy

The finishes still need to be applied then mounted.

I use Czech and Toho seed beads and tacky glue for this.

Lay down a line of glue then string seed beads on a short piece of thread

Lay the seed beads in a line on the glue.

Hold the beads with your finger and pull the thread out from the beads. I use a flat toothpick to push the beads tightly in place. You can work several row, then give it some drying time before continuing.

Hopefully she will be done by next week.

BEAUTIFUL ART BY BARBARA RAYMOND-LAPREASE

Hi Everyone!

I am truly honored to know so many incredible artists from all aspects of art. Beading, of course is and has been my passion for over 47 years and to see how this industry has grown is pretty amazing.
Beads are incorporated into and onto almost everything these days. Barbara Raymond-LaPrease is one of those artists that combined her love of wood working and beading to create these truly one of a kind beaded boxes. Barbara wrote this about how she got started in the wood/bead art.

I built the cherry box to reflect the shape of my project.  My main hobby is scrollsawing but during surgical recovery (breast cancer mastectomy and then reconstruction), I needed a hobby that did not include going down into the basement, etc. Hence, beading.  This project is the 3rd time I have combined my woodworking hobby with beading.  The first was a rose I cut and shaped out of red heart wood and then beaded into a necklace.  The second was a bead that I created to hang in the center of a 3 dimensional ornament.
Barbara uses Cherry wood for her boxes.

This box is truly a work of art.

From the depths of pain and illness Barbara allowed her beauty to rise up and create.
Thank you Barbara for sharing with us.

I don't have any links for Barbara but if you leave a comment I will make sure Barbara gets them.

Have a happy Tuesday

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY DEC 13

Hi Everyone!
Yeahhh Friday the 13th. It is one of my favorite days. It is  very lucky for me....hmmmm maybe I should buy a lotto ticket.  LOL
This is Paint Party Friday a big thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting all of us who live art.
I finished my Huichol dog. I named him Dog Dreams. He is a gift for a friend of mine. One of the nicest people I know. Ever have a person in your life that cares and gives from the heart with now strings attached. Well this is how my friend is. He is humble and loving and would probably be a bit shy if I mentioned his name. He knows who he is though and Dog Dreams is just a small way to say, "Thank you for all your goodness."
The gift was delivered.
It started with a drawing on fabric then Huichol beaded

The finish is adhered to a painted canvas.

Cording went around the outside of the dog

 Happy Paint Party Friday

OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday was a full day. In the morning I had Physical Therapy. It was an evaluation day on my feet. Right after that I saw my podiatrist. The eval went great and we came up with a good plan and goal for my feet. It's called walking without pain. LOL
My podiatrist, whom I like very much, did an exam and then and injection. It seems there is a bursitis in my heel. REALLY???? Ohhh and if you have never had an injection "anywhere" in your foot, but especially in your heel............then COUNT your lucky stars. I swear childbirth was easier. LOL
The injection normally works pretty well, but this time my foot hurt all night and this morning it is not good. EEEEkkkk. I guess I will just have to "sit" and do art today.  Ohhh darn.
So that was my Wednesday. Hope all of you had a better one.

You can't imagine how much this hurts. :(

THE AMAZING ART OF MARCHAL MITHOUARD

Hi Everyone!
It is a busy day for me and so far so good. I have finished the beaded dog and will post it for Paint Party Friday this week.
I also have a beaded face/hand just about finished. A few more hours on that.

But right now I want to share some amazing art with you. Marchal Mithouard started out as a Frecnh graffiti artist.  He first creates a bas relief of his figures on canvas, then paints them in his multi-colored, street art style.
Using exaggerated perspective and realism, Mithouard aims for his human figures to jump out at the viewer. His paintings appear to have an underlying theme of revolt and rebellion. His foremost influences, he says, include Vincent van Gogh, Le Caravage and Expressionism. Once you start viewing Marchal's art all you want to do is find more of it online. There are lots of sites just type in his name in your search line.
OK so ya wanna to see some art??

You know I love the strange.

More sites.
Don't miss viewing these.

BOOK REVIEW METAL CLAY 101 FOR BEADERS

Hi Everyone!

If you are interested in learning Metal Clay then this is definitely the book for you. Kristal Wick truly teaches technique in her book, detailing the step by step process. The book is geared towards beaders who want to take their jewelry making a step further, however, I find this is a great book to get started with Metal Clay for anyone. The 126 page book contains 23 projects to complete. The photos are excellent and actually follow the text. I am delighted with the tips and tricks of the trade that Kristal imparts, so it feels like you are in a class. The quality of the finished worked, both metal clay and the beading, is impressive and draws the reader in to want to create with metal clay. Learn to make findings, beads, charms and other embellishments for your jewelry. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn about and create with metal clay.

SNOW N PILLOWS

Hi Everyone!

Day before yesterday we got snow here in Florence. It was just a skiff and didn't stay long but to look out my upstairs window and see the sand dunes covered white was pretty nice. The temps have dipped and 8 degrees, on the cost is pretty darn cold.  Haaaa 8 degrees anywhere is pretty darn cold. LOL
So to stay warm (ha ha ha) I decided to make some pillows for my house. Having a sewing room makes all the difference. With the fiber fill I had I was able to make 4 pillows. So much fun to make and they bring a lot of color to the room.
So what do you create this weekend?
Have a nice Sunday everyone.
