WATCH SOMETHING TRULY BEAUTIFUL

Hi Everyone!

I hope all of you had a very nice day yesterday. Mike and I did. The sun was shinning (YEAYYY) The food was all good and it was nice to be together. We have been working a jig saw puzzle and the last 120 pieces went in yesterday too. It is so much fun and funny doing a puzzle with Mike. He is totally color blind and puts the puzzles together by shapes. I am not kidding. LOL

So here is the finished puzzle. So nice to do something that is just fun with no stress.
1000 pieces of joy

Now for something truly beautiful
Take a moment to watch this. You will not be disappointed.

Hi Everyone!
I have a few minutes to share something with you that I made for my house. I am pretty happy with the way they turned out since it is the first time attempting them. What are they?
 Roman Curtains.
I made one for my kitchen and one for my sewing room.

These types of shades are perfect for a small space like this window where there isn't much room to have slide open curtains.

And here is my sewing room shade

That is my curtain show for the day. LOL

Wishing all of you the best Thanksgiving day.

INRODUCING CATHERINE

Hi Everyone!

This is such a busy time of the year for everyone. So I was very pleased when Catherine took time out her busy day to tell us a bit about herself. We all wear so many "hats" in this life. We are not all "just" beaders or artist we do other things and it is nice to know what else people do.

So please meet Catherine then stop by her blog to say hello.
This is a woman with a story or two to tell. I really like this photo

Catherine lives in Port St. Lucie, FL and is proficient in bead embroidery, beadweaving and loom beading.  She has been an instructor in beading at retreats
for the Mid Southeastern Yahoo Group and the FL Jewelry Artist Yahoo Group throughout Florida and North Carolina.
Her current interest has been Blog Hops, which she finds intriquing with each persons concept of a named theme. Catherine will be participating in several through the coming year so be sure to follow her blog
Working full time in construction as a contract manager for four companies, Catherine defines her beading as her "YOGA"
Beading brings peace to and stimulates her creative soul.

You can see that "peace" in Catherine's beading

BOOK REVIEW BEAD EMBROIDER JEWELRY PROJECTS

Hi Everyone!

I can't believe a week has gone by since my last post. Today though I wanted to share  my thoughts on Jamie Cloud Eakin's new book, Bead Embroidery Jewelry Projects. I know some of you already have this book and I am really glad to know this and here is why.

Let’s face it. Since the early 1990’s bead explosion there have been thousands of instructional beading books and articles published. There isn’t much that is new or different in bead stitches, only how they are used.  So when I first saw the cover of Jamie Cloud Eakin’s new book I was pleasantly surprised to see something “old” reappear. (Remember I have been in the beading world for 47 years.)  Jamie brings back trends from the 1980’s and does it with all the
charm and fashion that decade had to offer.
From easy-to-wear shapes, delicate scallops and dangles Jamie presents a range of style.
Now don’t be put off by dangles. When done correctly, dangles bring elegance to jewelry.
There is a precision to dangle work and one needs a meticulous eye for bead size, color and placement that most beaders let go of in the 1990’s.
I for one am happy to see that Jamie is one artist to bring them back.
I also like the way Jamie shows construction and design.  Each of the 30 projects have great graphics and are well written.  In addition the photography is excellent, a plus in any instructional book.
The gallery of beaded jewelry is superb. Full of inspiration from several bead artist.
If you are looking for that somewhat traditional feel and learning some of the ideas that started the bead obsession then you will love this new book.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY LEATHER SCULPTURE

Hi Everyone!

I did have some time while caring for my mom. She did a lot of sleeping, so this is something I worked on. One of my leather sculpted faces. This is dyed deer hide. The sculpt starts by wetting the leather and set on a blank form. The form is a piece of wood that I carved into an egg shape for heads. The features are set in by manipulating the leather. I use what ever is around to make the nose, eyes mouth. As I work I use a heat gun to dry the leather. I also have a spray bottle to dampen the leather as I work. Once I get exactly what I want. I use the heat gun again to quick dry the leather. This only dries the outside layer of hide. I allow 24 hours for the piece to sit for a full dry. I use all kinds of mediums and methods to paint the face. This piece I used a "Stone" spray paint. I didn't like the way it turned out so I used my finger to blend the oily rock paint. Then I had a white face. Perfect. The rest of the face was done with pastels. I have a bit more detailing to finish but you get the idea.

A big thank you to Eva and Kristin for hosting PPF. Be sure to visit all the other fabulous artist who join in.

BEADWRIGHT OPEN FOR THE WEEK

Hi Everyone!

I am home for a week so thought I would open my Beadwright Website. Unless mom has a relapse I will be home all week. Now for those of you who have been with me for awhile, you may remember that I was traveling back and forth from Oregon to CA to care for my sister and then my bother both of whom have passed on. During that time I fractured my foot. I didn't even know I did. I thought the pain was just my lupus feet. LOL Well during this time of caring for my mom.... yep you guessed it. I have fractured my foot again. I mean REALLY???? The doctor told me that this would happen but I just didn't NEED for it to happy right now. Yes I am in that stupid medical boot and use my bone healing machine 3 hours each day. Boo Hoo Hoo. LOL
Now the real fun part is going up and down the stairs in our house. Wish we had an open banister I could slide down. Hee hee hee.

I guess I won't be wearing these any time soon :)  or ever!

I do love these. Not to  wear just to display

 And these too

Happy Thursday!

TEMPORARILY CLOSING BEADWRIGHT MONDAY OCT 8

Hi Everyone!

I feel like I have been through this before. Ohh...  I have.... LOL
On Oct. 8, 2013 I will be temporarily closing my Beadwright etsy store and my Beadwright website.

Most of you know that I am living in Oregon to help my mom when she needs it. Well she needs it now. My mom is not doing very well so I will be staying with her until she is better.
I will be off line until further notice. This is just temporary and I will let all of you know when things are back to normal. Ohhhh... I forgot.... normal??? ha ha ha... when things get back to "my" normal.

Thank you for all the lovely emails and well wishes for my mom and our family.

Me and Mom. We just had our hair cut and Mike was taking photos of mom's garden so we posed for one. Memories make them while you can.

BOOK REVIEW CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY IN PERSPECTIVE

Hi Everyone!

I will be leaving again for my mom's to take care of a few more things. She is doing much better and made it through this last bout.

There has been a lot of "down" time which gave me the opportunity to read a book that completely absorbed me. The book is “Contemporary Jewelry in Perspective” edited by Damian Skinner.
I believe that if you are engaging in a hobby or a craft, especially one that you are making a living at, it is important  to know the history and culture, the theory, and the inventiveness of that craft. This book covers all these angles and much more. Once you have a background you can then construct a foreground for your designs, skills, and techniques. They become clearer and more precise, allowing you to move into a more contemporary alignment.
“Contemporary Jewelry in Perspective” is broken into three very well written parts.
The first is, Thinking about Contemporary Jewelry with the insight from five different designers.
Part two is the History of Contemporary Jewelry. Early Twentieth Century Art Jewelry. Featuring six artists from six different countries.
The last Part is a culmination of eleven artists that bring an expansive view of ideas.
To quote, in part from the back of the book,
“It introduces different issues that might challenge established ideas, as well as identifies some present and future opportunities.”
I love this statement. Don’t we all want to challenge, change, impose, and develop new ideas in our art? I do and this book truly brought forth some excitement to my creative soul.
I highly recommend this 264 page hard cover book to all artists who want to expand thought of creating.

THE ART OF CHRIS BUZELLI

Hi Everyone!
I will be leaving for my mom's again on Tuesday if anyone is in desperate need of NBB email me.

In the meantime I discovered this artist from a blog friend of mine. Chris Buzelli is an artist after my own heart. I am drawn first to his subject matter, from there his art speaks for itself.  Every detail of color and shading brings depth to his art. A bit macabre, which all of you know I love.
Take a look at these art pieces then click on the links to see lots more.
