INJECTIONS IN MY FOOT OOOOHHHHH MMMYYYYY

Hi Everyone!

Yes yes I had an injection in my foot today. Before I go into that let me say this. If you have been with me for awhile you know that15 years ago when I was FIANLLY diagnosed with lupus. It was not a fun adventure from the first major symptoms and the 4 years of not-so-bright doctors putting me through every medical test known to doctor kind that followed.  Extracting more blood from my veins than the whole Twilight crew could drink (hee hee hee) I was finally given the grim news. I share my body with SLE that effect all parts of my body and skin but lupus really likes to mess with my CNS, Brain, and digestive system. Oh yes if I go out into my beloved sunshine I break out in a red rash and blisters. It is ohhhhh so much fun NOTTT!!!

So now that you know I am pretty use to needles, for shots and body points for other types of testing I didn't think a steroid injection for the nerve damage in my feet would be so bad. My podiatrist, who is just the greatest, informed me we would do one foot today and one in two weeks.

Hmmmmm why not both feet today????

OHHHH III AM SOOOOOOOOOO GLAD HE DIDN'T DO BOTH. I HAVE NEVER FELT THIS KIND OF PAIN. ANYWAY THAT I CAN REMEMBER.

I was half laid out with my legs and feet in front of me. I was pretty relaxed. He came in, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I felt the cold alcohol on the front of my foot by my second to last toe. A pin prick of a tiny needle. Not bad at all I told myself.
Then he pushed down on the plunger and OMFG!!!!!! I thought I was going to scream it hurt so much. I could feel the fluid fill the bottoms of my toes and the ball of my foot. It was so strange and sooooo painful. boo hoo hoo..... As soon as he stopped the pain was gone.
However, that two minute ordeal was bad.
Hmmm Okay, now that I said, " two minutes"  it makes me sound like a real wimp.
Ohhh I'm not, I'm not, really I am not a wimp. LOL

Part of my feet troubles is the lupus, however, when I was younger I wore 5 inch heals. I danced with my brother, Vince, who passed away 3 years ago. Yes in the heals. It was the 70/80s disco queen and king. We won many awards and dance contests. The heals should have been outlawed, but I loved wearing them so much. I know they look good but really watch what you put on your feet and wear good support shoes. That is my advice for the day. LOL

I am off to elevate my feet and watch scary movies.

MISSING THE DESERT EVEN IN SUMMER

Hi Everyone!

It is cold and icky here year round. One of my blogging friends posted about her trip to the Oregon cost and was pretty disappointed at how cold it is and that she had to bundle up in a coat and ear muffs to go to the beach. Yep, that is the Oregon coast. So I am missing the desert sooooooooooo much, even in the summer.

AM I STILL BEADING???

Hi Everyone!

Today I received an email asking if I was still beading?  Auuuhhhh yeaahhhh! I have been beading professionally for the past 47 years. That is selling beadwork, teaching beadwork, writing about beadwork, designing beadwork and..... well you get the idea. It occurred to me that I have not posted any new beadwork for a few months. So here is what is on my beading table now. It will be getting packed up and I will finish it in the new house.

I like Turquoise and Gold so when this is finished it will shine!!! There will be little beady surprises in the holes of the donut Turquoise beads.

PACKING IT ALL UP

Hi Everyone!

Today was another day of packing and staging things for our move. Both Mike and I are pretty organized packers so it won't be too bad unpacking in the  new house.
Just a reminder that with moving my Beadwright etsy store and Beadwright web site will be closed in August and part of September.
So stocking up on Nicole's BeadBacking and other supplies might be a good idea.

SHOWCASE 500 ART NECKLACES

Hi Everyone!

Today it is overcast dark and dreary. Ohhh I forgot that is how it is most days here. LOL
To brighten the day I will do my review on the new Lark Jewelry and Beading book,
Showcase 500 art necklaces. I was happy with the book. There are some amazing pieces that are museum quality and some pieces that jumped off the pages and excited me. I am thrilled to see some of my beading pals in the book as well. There is a bounty of inspiration for any level of beader or artist. As with all of Lark's 500 series the book is of high quality, beautiful photos that are submitted by the artists. Some taken by professionals and some by the artists themselves. I also like that the book shows an even variety of materials used for the jewelry. If you don't have a 500 series book this would be a great one to start with.
Showcase 500 art necklaces is a 420 page paper back.
ISBN 978-1-4547-0352-5

This piece really stood out for me. Kazuhiko Ichikawa "Purple Mirage"

My good friend Susan Horine "Take a Gander"
she only uses Nicole's BeadBakcing for her amazing bead art

This incredible piece by Jocelyn Kolb "Inflorilllumini"
that is how it is spelled in the book

MONDAY

Hi Everyone!

I am home from my mom's place. It was a quick two day trip to get some shopping done and to go to the Grants Pass farmer's Market. If you are ever in GP on a Saturday between 9 and 1 you have to stop in at this Market. It is so well organized. There is an abundance of beautiful produce and bakery goods. The artists bring all hand crafted pieced of art. A real market where no imported items are allowed. That was the good day. The icky day was Friday when mom and I pulled into WalMart got a parking space and all of a sudden we feel a big thud. I turn to see that some "Asshole" (Yes I said it) came around the corner and hit our car. Before we could get our seat belts unbuckled he back up and sped away. A woman came over to us and said, "I was standing right there that guy hit you on purpose." Seriously, it happened so fast I can't even tell you what kind of car it was other than it was black. Anyway we decided NOT to go in and shop and just drove home. No sense is calling the cops they won't come out. We stopped and talk to the insurance people and we can file a police report and send it to our insurance. Does this guy KNOW about Karma?

Other than that I had a really nice time with mom. I want as much time with her as possible.
So that was my weekend. Now it is time to start packing again. LOL

Here are a few amazing photos

World’s edge

Adaptive roots in the concrete jungle

 The stunning green vine snake
I love this snake!

The most incredible aurora of 2012

A sea of purple in the badlands of Utah

And just to make you smile on a Monday
Seal LOL

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY WEEK 18

Hi Everyone!
I am getting this posted early. I have been packing and trying to keep things organized. EEEKKK moving, what a job!  Since I don't have time for painting or making anything new right now I am joining Paint Party Friday with another older piece. This is a traditional Huichol beaded sun. You know I have to have the sun around me even if it doesn't show up much here in my part of the world. LOL

For those of you who don't know, Huichol beading comes from the Huichol people in Northern Mexico. Seed beads are adhered to an object with warm bees wax,  hole side facing out. I was able to know about this type of beading from my grandmother who spent time with the Huichol Indians in the 1960s. I devised my own bees wax and pine sap mixture in 1988 and started to create.  In 1996 I was honored to meet an elder of the tribe and was blessed to create tradition motifs. I was also asked for my bees wax and pine sap recipe. Yes I shared.

Here is a close up of how the beads are laid.

AIMEE RAY'S NEW BOOK

Hi Everyone!

I love new instructional books that show different materials and points of view. That is just what Aimee Ray's new book does. "Sweet and Simple Jewelry" will entice the novice and intrigue the seasoned jewelry maker. Aimee gathered 17 designers with 10 different techniques to create 32 step by step projects. I love that, "Wool Felt" is part of Aimee materials. Nicole's BeadBacking can be substituted for all of these project.
Aimee does suggest that other types of felt are easier to purchase and I appreciate that.
I am also happy to see one of the designers, Sonya Fabricant is from my neck of the woods Eugene, OR. Jessica Berner and Alicia Henson began creating in memory of their sister. Each designer tells a story with their art and I like that very much.
Sweet and Simple Jewelry is a book that will open your mind to a different style and creative motive.
From rings to necklaces I have enjoyed reading through each project. I know you will as well.
