Hi Everyone!
This week for Paint Party Friday I have yet another sculptural leather on canvas. I know it seems that this must be all that I create........ it isn't......... I am getting ready for summer shows and I need a large variety of my sculptural leather paintings, (SLP) besides they are so much fun to play with. Be sure to visit
Paint Party Friday to see all of the other very talented artists who participate. A huge thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting our weekly event.
I guess the title of this painting is appropriate. We are in the middle of one heck of a wind and rain storm.

So here is; "In the Wind"
12x12 box canvas, acrylic paints, glass beads, leather hand sculpted. I do not use a mold.

NEW YORK HELP

Hi Everyone!
I can not believe so many days have passed with no blog post. Some of you know that after I have a bad flare with lupus, (as I did last month) my body regenerates and I have energy send from the gods. When these times happen I take full advantage of it. So I have been physically busy. Yeaaahhhh....
One of the things that has happened is that my daughter, daughter-in-law, my mom and I are planning a trip. This trip has been a life time dream for all 4 of us and we feel that if we don't do it this year we may not be able to go with all 4 of us. So the pennies are being set aside, for a week in New York. OMG!!!! It is just a plan and if I can get my doctor bills paid off I may just make it. What I am needing from my New York readers is information. Please email me.
If you have visited New York drop me a line too. I have some questions. I do have a very good friend that lives there and I will be getting in touch with her but it is always nice to get different views of this city.
New York here we come!!!

BOOK REVIEW SONOKO NOZUE

Hi Everyone!

I hope all of you had a fantastic weekend. I spent mine with my mom. We had a great time doing girl things. Getting our hair cut, shopping, having lunch. When I came home there was a surprise waiting for me. I just love surprises! I was so hoping this book would come to me and there it was. Yes it is Sonoko Nozue's new book. Just out by Lark Books.
Japanese Beadwork
with
Sonoko Nozue
25 Jewelry Designs from a master artist
ISBN978-1-4547-0278-8
When I was in Japan a few years ago the one thing that was very clear is that men, women, and children dress impeccably. It didn't' matter if they were in traditional or high fashion clothing. The children all wore uniforms for school, but again they were all very tailored. This comes through to me in Sonoko's book. Her jewelry is made for fashion, but in a way that it can be worn with everyday clothes too. As always Lark has taken an artist view and brought it forth in print. This book is elegant in it's entirety. The instructions are easy to follow and the photography is exceptional. This instructional book is truly one you must have. Sonoko takes time tested stitches and creates jewelry with sophistication and polished designs. Each of the 127 pages of the striking book will keep you intrigued.

MY MEMORIES DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING

Hi Everyone!
It has been a long, very busy week with some interesting events. A few weeks ago I introduced you to the My Memories Digital Scrapbooking. Seriously, I do not scrapbook, I just never have had time. However, with the My Memories program I could really get into this. Even though I still don't have much time for it the program makes it easy and so much fun. Here is just one of the ideas that Liz, sent to me via email. It could not have come at a better time. I have a gift to send to a friend and of course I have no wrapping paper. Haaaaa!!! make my own with My Memories Digital Scrapbooking program. It took me all of 15 minutes to make this. It would not have taken so long, however, I got caught up playing with all of the different designs available. Hee hee heee. So here is the paper I came up with. I used regular computer paper.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY WEEK 1 YEAR 2

Hi Everyone!
No car art today. I have a piece that I finally got some sort of decent photos of. It is so dark where I live that even with lights action and camera the photos are not what they should be. Anyway, thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting Paint Party Friday. It is such fun to be apart of this weekly get together. Be sure to stop by to see all of the artists that join in. I think last week was a record for all that joined in, 106! So come see who has created what.
Here is another of my sculpted leather face series. I am happy to say that these paintings are selling. Yippeee!!

Deer hide, acrylic painting on 12x12 box canvas, air brush on leather,  size 11/o seed beads, beach glass

GETTING READY FOR SHOWS

Hi Everyone!
The snow is gone and the high winds and buckets of rain are back. Hey I will take rain over snow any day LOL.
I am getting ready for spring and summer shows. Mike and I had a discussion the other day on the first organized shows we did starting in 1984. Boy those were fun times with so much positive energy. The 1990s up to the early 2000's brought a different type of promoters for shows (greed set in ) and now I find that the smaller home town shows are much more fun and profitable for everyone.  In those early days I traveled for shows and pow wow, being on the road was the best!!! I really don't remember a bad time. It was all so much fun. I really do enjoy the shows. Meeting new people and catching up with return customers. Showing off my art, explaining how it was made and what the materials are. The excitement of a good show is so energizing and rejuvenates after winter.
So here is a new piece that will go to show. Mookiate Jasper, size 15/o 11/o and 8/o seed beads, glass rounds, and Czech bevels.

SNOWED IN AM I IN IDAHO?

Hi Everyone!
Once in a while we get a skiff of snow here in Florence, OR. However, Monday night we thought we were back in North Idaho. OMG!!! The day was wicked with rain and wind and around 7PM we lost internet. A little later Mike told me it was snowing. He is always kidding me about it so I didn't believe him. He insisted so I looked out the window and sure enough. It was coming down so hard and fast that within an hour we had two inches of the white stuff. Then we lost power. Our trees can  take the mighty Pacific coast winds and the rain, but a snow pack like this? NO! As we stood at the back door we could hear the sound of trees snapping and then a thud as the limbs hit the soft white ground. We watch the lights of our town go out section by section like some sci fi movie. The snow continued to fall. During the night three big limbs cracked and fell to the ground one scrapping across our bedroom window. Thank the gods it missed the house and there was no damage. By morning the house was freezing cold and NO coffee!!! That was worse than the cold. LOL. We ended up with 5 inches of the white stuff in our yard. We were with out power for 10 hours and no internet 18 hours. Geeee.... I got so much done yesterday with the computer down. LOL OK so maybe we aren't snowed in but you all know I am a bit of a drama queen hee hee hee.
Now to answer emails.

It was garbage day.

Not getting into the shed today

and Mike thought he would never have to do this again. LOL

I guess the tree needed trimming anyway.

The roads soon became a mucky mess. I do NOT miss snow AT ALL

MONDAY

Hi Everyone!
Hope all of you had a nice weekend. I beaded and got a things ready for a showing I have today. Wish me luck that they buy it ALL!! :)
You know how I look for altered art mediums. I enjoy seeing the talent that people have using different materials. I do have issues with using food as a medium. I always think of those who don't have much and would benifit from the food that is used for art. That's just me. So today I am going to share with you the art of  Vik Muniz. Now some of you may already know of this artist and what he has done for the Waste Pickers of Brazil.

If you have netflix put Wasteland in your que.
Vic goes back to his homeland to help the (garbage) pickers of Brazile. This documentory will make you laugh, cry, realize, and give thanks. The art will give you new insight. The poeple, however, will show you courage, strenght, and hope, and will stir your soul. If you want some realization how the art world can work for the good then watch Waste Land. You will not be dissapointed. I saw it when if first came out and have watched it many times since.
Here are a few of the pieces made from garbage

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY YIPPPEEE!!!

Hi Everyone!
This has been a very long day. I had an 8:30 AM meeting that lasted a few hours. Rushed home picked up Mike and off to the big city. Ohh you know Eugene, OR. It is an all day ordeal there. We had fun though and the over there was beautiful sunny and warm. I have lots to do tonight and so I thought I would get my Paint Party Friday post up early. I do have to watch Project Runway All Stars tonight...I ran across some more car art. I have been asked how I sketch while riding in the car. It is not always easy. Now, if I ride in the back seat I am car sick before we take off. LOL In the front passenger seat I am OK, I can't read in the car but drawing is a different focus for me. I always have a box with graphite new clean erasers a few paper towels and a sketch pad. With the first stroke it just comes to me. Can't explain it any other way. Hey the pictures are not always pretty but it is fun.
Thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting Paint Party Friday. Stop by their blog to see all the great artists who join in the fun.

SANDY SPIVEY'S CABOCHONS OH MY

Hi Everyone!
The other day I was looking at some of my favorite places in Etsy. Yes I actually had time to roam the Internet. LOL I was looking for something special. I not only am a vendor in my June show I also am one of the promoters so it is important to me that it is a success.  I want all new pieces for my tables this year, so I was looking for cabs. You know those special cabs the ones that are bright and bold and well something that just catches the eye. OHHHHH MYYYYY I found just that in Sandy Spivey's etsy store. Her cabs are so bright and colorful and clear and they are glass and well they are Perfect for what I have in mind. Ya wanna see what they are??? Well first I want to introduce you to Sandy. She is amazing!!!

In her own words
I have always been a somewhat creative person, crocheting since I was 12 (taught by my artistic grandmother) drawing, sewing and dabbling in other crafts from time to time. There came a time however when I became disabled through emphysema, that I had to find something that would keep me busy and satisfy my continual need for creative stimulation. I began to bead at that point and a whole new world opened up for me.
The thing about beading is it leads to so many other things. I now do macramé, bead embroidery, dabble in glass fusing, Kumihimo braiding, glass cabochon making and now I am staring to teach myself metal stamping and copper etching so I can make charms to incorporate into my mixed media style of creating.
Nicole came across me quite by accident while perusing the Website called Etsy. Etsy is a site where artists and those who supply artists with the tools and supplies they need, come together in mutual benefit and for the benefit of those who admire art.
A little over a year ago I was looking for a cabochon to incorporate into a piece I was bead embroidering and could find nothing to satisfy me. I was looking through Etsy and saw a way to create my own cabochons in whatever image I wanted, and wha la! Glass Art Cabochons by Sandy was born!
I have taken requests from others for different types of images, I have done custom work for several people who needed a way to memorialize a beloved pet or loved one and I have been able to satisfy my own needs for my beaded art!
Being disabled and unable to work at a full time job created the necessity to find a way to contribute to the family income and support my NEED TO BEAD! My husband and 4 children and 3 grand kids have all been extremely supportive and help me whenever I need it. My new "job" feels more like fun on an everyday basis rather than work and I wish I had discovered this years ago! So, my advice to anyone who asks is, "Let your passion be your guide!"
Sandy Spivey

Be sure to stop by Sandy's etsy store and other sites and be sure you tell you Nicole sent you.
Now for the goodies.

Florals n Skulls how can you go wrong?

 Silhouette and Faces

 Fantasy yeahhhh

Peacocks eyes and dragons perfect for me

These are just a small sample of the amazing glass cabs that Sandy carries. The bonus, and all of you will love this, her prices are set to sell. Go check it out!!!
