OWOH BEAD/NECKLACE

Hi Everyone!

Well today in Florence it has been storming like the the gods have opened up the skies. Wowow I don't think I have ever seen rain come down so hard before. So it is the perfect day to stay inside and take care of business. I really did get a lot done today. One of the things is this necklace. Now one of my gifts from OWOH giveaway was from Julie Nordine. My beautiful win was this incredible bead. I Knew immediately what I was going to do with this prize.
Using it as a connection for flatwork. This flatwork piece encompasses my techniques for layered flatwork and lacy flatwork. Both of these techniques are taught in my book, "FlatWork" also my new bead kits teach the layered technique. OK so here is the necklace. Hope you like it.

BEAUTIFUL BEAD DESINGER

Hi Everyone,
This week has just been crazy nuts for me. I am not finished yet.
When I started beading, long before it was so popular, my work was strictly traditional. I was fortunate to bead for Native American dancers, weddings, and special ceremonial tools. Mike and I traveled vending the pow wow and art show circuits. It was a fun and exciting time. By the 1980s I was making the transition to more contemporary bead art. I taught my first bead class in 1986 and by that time was selling my work world wide to shops, galleries, and museums. At one time I was a buyer for a store. I actually inspected bead work for purchase. So when I see beadwork there are certain things I look for. Design, color, execution, and most important the finish of the piece. When I look at Eva Marie's incredible bead art I see all of the above dancing in concert. She has an easy way about her that translates into unique, and complex designs. That easy way is also shown in the style and look of her blog. The easy and the complex, a perfect combination. Stop by Eva Marie's blog. Her work will amaze you. She even offers free E-patterns. Eva Maria Keiser Designs blog and website Eva Marie's website. You will be inspired.

TEACHING IN NEWPORT OR.

Hi Everyone!

If you live, or are going to be, in the Newport OR. area in April then you have to check out Nye Cottage Beads and sign up for my Layered Flatwork class. I will be teaching April 24th and space is limited. One of the great things about coming to Nye Cottage Beads other than the bead, is if you are traveling there are cottages to rent right at the bead store. How cool is that???? Linda, the owner is one of the most inviting people I know. Her cottages are meticulously clean, a few blocks from the ocean, just down the street from some very fine shopping, and of course her bead store. Oh and her cottage prices are very reasonable. I will be driving in from Florence on April 24th to teach from 11am to 3pm. I will supply all the materials needed for this class. Bring a sack lunch and get ready for a bead party!!!!
Where???
NYE COTTAGE 208 NW Coast Street
P.O. Box 1211 Newport, OR 97365
Tel: (541) 265-6262 Toll Free: 1 (866) 592-5556
Call in and reserve you spot for a great learning experience.

BUSY BUSY BUSY DAY

Hi Everyone!
I can't believe it is 3:20pm (pacific time) already. I have been so busy today. It is sunny but not too warm, hey that is OK as long as there is sunshine, right? I have orders out, kits are packed, and the gourd is done. No you can't see the gourd until I get it sent off to the editor. :)

However, here are my latest kits. An in depth tutorial on how to create my Layered Flatwork.
I will be teaching this class April 24, 2010 in Newport OR. at
NYE COTTAGE 208 NW Coast Street P.O. Box 1211 Newport, OR 97365Tel: (541) 265-6262Toll Free: 1 (866) 592-5556
I will be listing some of the kits in my Beadwright etsy store or email me if you are interested in them. Kits are listed just click on a photo below.

Sample of what you will make, sample of kit/instructions and just one of the many colors of cabs to choose from.
All of my kits include everything you need with the exception of glue, scissor, and cutting blade. Instructions are complete with text, graphics and photos. Even a quick lesson on the proper use of leather. The focal point of the kit is a dichroic glass cab made by my very good friend
Once you learn this technique you will be able to create items like these.

SLOW DAY

Hi Everyone!
I had a really bad night so today I am running on slow. I guess that I am running at all is a good thing. LOL. I do have some new kits to show you and a teaching date to share with you but for now until I can get my legs maneuvering better here are some things I have in my etsy store. Now for all of us seed beaders, you can hardly beat a Charlotte cut. Along with the old time 3-cuts these are my favorites. Size 13/o Czech hanks. Add these with some Swarovski and your eyes will sparkle out. OMG I don't even know what that means. However, you get the idea.

WAHT TO DO WITH A CUCUMBER???

Hi Everyone!

My mom is always emailing interesting information to me. I found this to be most interesting and thought I would pass it along to you. I am definitely trying #6

This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago as part of their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and fanciful ways to solve common problems.

1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5,Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance..

4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area. (WOW)

5.. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the photochemical in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!! (DOUBLE WOW)

6.. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!

7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.

8. Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes? Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.

9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber sliced rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

10.. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown to reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.

11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemicals will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.

13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

Bobbi from the Bead goes on sent this to me. It sounds wonderful

OWOH MY LAST GIFT

Hello Everyone!
The other day while I was in bed Mike came home with the mail, you know bills, junk, and a box. The box was the last of my OWOH giveaway gifts. I knew what to the gift was suppose to be and with some help from Mike got the package open. To my great happy surprise it was so much more than what I was expecting. A huge bag of vintage jewelry, odds n ends of bracelets, earrings, necklaces and sooooo much more. I have not had time to go through the entire bag, however, it is a treasure trove. Then there was the most touching hand writen letter on home made paper. I just sat a cried at the tender words writen to me. With the letter was this beautiful angel fill with love, and blessings. The letter is personal and I will cherrish it for ever as my angel. Ohhhhh you want to know who my angel is Patti Edmon from

Hi Everyone!
I am having one of those days. You know, the kind of day where you have tons of things to do but nothing is falling into place. I have kits to assemble, however, I have no bags. They are ordered. I have a gourd project to work on for my friends book, however, the battery on my camera is dead. I have it charging. I have some carving to do for an order, however, I need to do it outside and it is WAYYYY to cold today. I also have some clay work to finish, however... however... however.... WAHT THE HECK ????

Hi Everyone!
I am very busy today and I am meeting with my good friend Kelly Angeley for lunch. So this will be a quick post. A few weeks ago Mike and I took a drive up coast. There is a beautiful spot that you can pull off, view the ocean, use the hiking paths, or even get a cup of espresso. There are restrooms to use that are very clean and the whole area is well kept. Now you have to know that one of my pet peeves is lazy people. Especially  public laziness. You know, the person who just can't put the grocery cart away so when the wind blows it hits your car. Or the parents that just throw the disposable diaper out in the parking lot, or this

Earlier I posted a bracelet I finished and now I have finished a ring that I started today. I am please with it. I used size 15/0 seed beads from Art Beads and a piece of dicro glass from Lori Cook. BEADING BEADING BEADING

Hi Everyone!
I am amazed at how fast this week whizzed right on by me. I have been beading, beading, and beading this week. Here is one of the bracelets I just finished about 10 minutes ago. So the photo is actually taken on my work table. This is another amazing piece of glass from my good friend Lori Cook. If you like working with dynamic glass then you need to head over to Lori's etsy store, Our of the Flames. If you don't see what you need just email Lori she does take special orders.
This piece of glass measures just over 2 inches add the beadwork and the total measurement is just about 3 inches long and raised about 3/4 of an inch. I tell you this to say I love big full focal bracelets!!! They make a statement and most of the time I sell them right off my wrist.
Enjoy the photos and have a great Sunday.

From beginning  the glass is glued to my Nicole's BeadBacking

My own technique of layered Flatwork
I will be teaching a class on this in April

Embellish the strap and always have an adjustable size clasp system

I think this would look great on a guys wrist as well.

TODAY IS MY BABY GIRL'S BIRTHDAY

Hi Everyone!
The sun is shinning in Florence, Yeeeeaahhhhhh!!!! It makes my mood so much happier. Also today is my daughter, April's birthday. She has always been this amazing child. Intense, determined, and look out if you cross her too many times. Hmmmm she sounds so much like me it is scary. LOL I am so proud of her and all of her accomplishments. Not just because she is mine, but because she exudes a gentle but powerful woman. As we speak April and her husband Dax are packing and moving to East Texas. Dax is a Staff Sgt in the US Marines and for the first time in 8 years he will be state side. He has taken a recruiting position. How happy is my daughter??? Very!!!! They will be in Texas for 3 years leaving their beautiful home in NC. to a renter. At least they are a bit closer to me now. I am planning a visit ASAP after they get settled. Oh so how old is my baby??? 38!!
I don't want to use the "O" word but April turning 38 makes me feel a bit OLD. Hey.... my son will be 41 in May. OMGGGGG!!!
Here are Dax and April at a recent Marine Ball.

OK I have to say it, it is my motherly duty
She is sooooo pretty
