American Gourd Society

So a few months ago I was approached by Margaret Schroeder, of the American Gourd Society, to ask if I would send in a beaded gourd tutorial. Well of course!!!! She actually found some that I had on line and they were published in their magazine. Shortly after the publication I received and email from a lady by the name of Sherry Grant. She was coming through Florence and wanted to meet. Well we did and what a fun and fabulous lady Sherry is. Her husband was delightful as well and ohhhh sooo patient. Sherry is a member of the Idaho Gourd Society out of Boise. We met at one of my favorite stores in Florence The Brown Dog Antiques store. Here we are.

Fall is coming

Well as much as I hate to admit it fall is coming. I am a girl who needs sunshine and here in the Pacific North West when summer is over so goes the sun. One thing that keeps my mind off that is beaded gourds. I am working on one right now that will be in a show I am doing in Oct. Autumn colors rich in reds, golds, and bronze. Beaded gourds are so much fun to make and can accent your home with surprising elegance. So I am putting my gourd kits up for sale to get all of you started on your fall projects. Florence Bead Challenge

Hi All,

I live in Florence, OR. one of the best bead places in the world. We have an ever growing and very active bead society. Two months ago I was asked, by Lily of WaterLily Studios, to create a sample piece with a glass vessel made from one of our members, James Lais. Sure why not. I made a simple necklace and it was placed in her store. From there I opened a challenge to all of our members to create something with the vessles. James Lais is a fantastic glass artist that donated the glass vessels to our group. Twelve people stepped up to the challenge. Last night at our bead meeting the finished vessles had to be brought in. All I can say is WOW!!!! Everyone did a fantastic job. Over this weekend I will be photographing all the pieces and setting up a voting system here on my blog and my website. So come back and see what the Florence Bead Society is doing for fun.
